Forza 4 - Shift 2 owners what are your thoughts?

Let me first start off by making it clear, I'm NOT trying to rip on Forza OR Shift, I'm simply a big fan of the Shift series, as its really been one of the more "immersive" racing games I've played.

I'll be the first to admit Shift 2 has REALLY had its fair share of problems (I actually have to use a seperate backup save file about 90% of the time now because it freezes at the start screen now-on Xbox 360-), but after playing the Forza 4 demo track, I felt like the game was just very "icy" and "dull"... now I'll admit perhaps it was because the swiss track is SUPPOSED to be "icy" but no matter what racing setup (between stability control, traction control, and such) I used I couldnt get that feeling of racing on "ice" out of the game... it wasnt as if the tires were squeeling either from traction, it was like they'd just hit a patch of ice and start gliding.

Can anyone who actually OWNS the full game of Forza 4 comment on their thoughts on the game as a whole. I love the looks of the game, and I like some of the modes, but it just doesnt seem as "visceral" nor "gritty" as Shift 2, and I'd actually say I like the physics (if that "icy" aspect in Forza 4 is consistent throughout) of Shift 2 better than Forza 4's demo.

Positives and negatives about Forza 4 from owners of both Shift and Forza would be greatly appreciated, as I'm on the fence about purchasing it (especially with funds being tight and too many other great games coming out around this time of year).

Thanks in advance for any input given.

I'd be interested too,as thinking about buying Forza 4. :)

I've had no troubles with Xbox Shift freezing though....not since it was patched.

I don't even have an Xbox, but like you pointed out, in terms of immersion it'll be hard to beat.

Plus, I hope you can use a wheel because, quite frankly, between bad FF and NO FF the choice is obvious :)

So, with this said, I'm curious to know what real players have to say about Forza4 too.

They just jump in. Forza for xbox racers is like church for Catholic. Just like gt5 for ps3 users. There is even a place called forzaplanet :sly:

I've love the detail of that game. 👍

It looks brilliant graphically and I m curious to hear what the tire data can bring to the driving. But even if I would own an Xbox I wouldnt buy it. Because just like GT5, those sterile driving sims just dont do it for me anymore after the whole Shift 2 immersion experience.

The reward for best sentence, describing where is the difference between game that gives fun from playing and the one which doesn't goes to YOU

I m flattered. First, I wanna thanks my Mom and my Dad who always believed in me despite all the times my car ended up in some walls and then my goldfish and...

I have to say, I m definitely not the first person to come up with that and I probably wont be the last.

But don't you have a bigger smile on your face when play Shift 2. Mine is definitely bigger when i play Shift than GT5.

Although there is a new physic for GT and i have to finally check it.

Whooooosssshhhhhh this graphic, this physic  only watched and i already love it 👍

Looks good. 👍

Could do without the (ever-present) stupid bloody musical accompaniment though. :yuck:

People I know who drive cars like that don't even have a sound system in the car.

1. They can't hear it.

2. The engine is the music.

My pet hate on any car video. :irked:

There....out of my system.

I took the time to watch the full video and here are my impressions based on it.

Looked very good, looked very flat, feels like one big straight.

If it wasn't for the speed I'd say you can do it in reverse 👎

Would I buy it? Yeah, If I owned an xbox and after I bored myself to death with S2U, whenever that happens :)

I don't know if it's track width or what, but there doesn't seem to be any severity to any of the corners at all. The 'begginers' green hell...

IMO it looked very flat no gradients, course overwide in places and distances between corners different.

Hi Guys,

I own both Forza 4 and Shift 2 Unleashed.

I love them both. Shift 2, in my opinion, is the most visceral of the two - it's gritty and its in-car cockpit (or helmet cam) view is unrivalled in any racing game, for realism purposes.

It's also the fastest - nothing beats it if you just want that adrenalin rush. Nothing!

Graphically Forza 4 is much more polished and the sheer variety in game is astonishing - shopfronts, online, cusomisation etc are all way ahead of Shift 2.

Shift 2 may not be as graphically polished but it definietly looks more real when behind the wheel.

The driving physcis are also more realistic in Forza 4 - though Shift 2 offers more fun, it does still feel a little elastic on certain tracks in certain cars.

I love both games for entirely different reasons. If Forza 4 is car porn then Shift 2 is a soapy tit wank. Both have their places and are far more fun than the 'missionary position after a night at the opera 'offering of GT5.

Forza's the same mostly great game it's always been, though the controls are still a bit floaty and I'm never going to approve of Turn 10's Day Zero DLC whoring.

As for Shift 2, I want to like it, I really do but the handling just sucks no matter how I adjust the controls. Even going back to the feeling Shift 1 had would be an improvement.

I voluntarily donate my award for best discription of Shift 2 vs other sims to you, congrats Mr. Sage Smith! 👍

Thank you grahamw56

I have come over all misty-eyed at your kind words.

I'm sitting here in my wife's M&S winciette nighty as I type this memo.....remembering the days, before Forza 4 and Shift 2 when the best I had to look forward to was GT5's weekly 'sympathy wank'.

You're a gent and I salute in your general direction.

And the same to you Steve182rs.

I'm welling up here. It's unbefitting of a man of my advanced years.

Very kind welcomes gents. I feel we are now brothers. Kin. Men of means. Porn aficionados.

My opinions of Forza 4 compared to Shift 2.

The interior views in Shift 2 are still the best I have ever experienced. Graphically S2 did a great job in this department. They feel so real with light reflections and heads up displays and just so much feels so real. Out of all the racing games I have played F4 has the 2nd best interior views.

Other than that F4 is overall an amazing game. The audio, graphics, rivals mode, campaign, autovista, online, everything is excellent. Its a huge leap ahead of F1,F2, and F3.

Rivals mode is by far the most addictive addition to a game. NFS Hot Pursuit had the Autolog and that was good but Forza has brought this feature to an entirely new level. With Rivals mode in F4 you are constantly rewarded for beating your friends or other people in the community in the leaderboards. Example: Lets say you are in 500th place on the leaderboard in an event in Rivals mode. The game automatically picks the closest friend to your time. Or in drifting it picks the person with more points. If your friends have not played that event it picks a random member of the community and puts them as your rival. So you take on that 499th position and win maybe $100. Cool! After that you decide you want to go much higher up the leaderboard list. So you pick someone in the top 50 position. If you beat them you could be rewarded up to $150,000!!!! For 1 challenge! Beat the next person above thats another $150,000!!

So for the first time in a racing games history, you are actually rewarded for climbing the leaderboards. Plus after you beat that rival, the rival recievs a message letting them know you beat their time. So at that point they can re-challenge you and then they get money too if they beat you. The money is an excellent incentive and makes for an extremely addictive and competitive experience.

Audio is just spot on in F4. If you are inside the car it sounds like you are inside the car a little quiter than the outside. However if you add the weight reduction which removes the carpet it will be very loud inside the car. Very realistic especially if you upgrade the exhaust.

Graphics are beyond any other racing game out there. No other car racing game even touches Autovista. Not even close. The homespace pics and location graphics are also very nice.

There is just so much in F4 and I feel its one of THE best racing games I have ever played. S2 is also really good but F4 is a lot better IMO.

Shift 2 gives you XP when you beat autolog buddies. the more the merrier... problem is that after reaching level 20 (quite easy) there's no point in the achievement 👎 Money would've been A LOT better

Exactly. I bet the next NFS game or any other racing game that copies the F4 rivals mode will use money instead as a reward.

I tried Forza 4... total disappointment just because I had to drive with a stupid kind of a wheel, no FFB whatsoever and the need to have both arms in the air with NO support is a total killer for me. Try racing for 2h like that and your arms will fall :)

With a proper wheel things should be different for sure.

The way I play it felt really flat and insipid. Other than that its one of those games to have on XBox if you own one. Not my case and I won't miss it based on a 15 experience.

Maybe if one of my friends buy an XBox and let me spend some time with it my opinion changes IF played with a proper wheel :) MS really should support logitech...

Red ring of death on my Xbox :ouch:...time to spend money.:grumpy:

I'll fix this old one myself as well, as per instructions on youtube.

Just missing my racing fix at the moment. :irked:
