Today I was playing world tour mode and entered into an R1 race, it was two laps on indianapolis and I was placed in 8th position at the start of the race. The only way to win this race is to drive like a complete idiot, doing stupid overtaking moves and using the A.I as breaks. I've been sim racing along time so I don't take this type of driving online but it got me thinking, if your new to sim racing and your playing forza 4 single player, you are forced to drive like an idiot. Its not teaching rookie drivers good race craft and I think this is one of the reasons we see so many bad drivers on line. when your trying to overtake someone you learn there lines, learn where your faster and plan your overtake before you do it, you should no roughly where you will make your move, unless they make a mistake of course. You shouldn't be pulling of kamakazi moves down the inside of every corner. It happens to often online especially at the start of the race, people think that the race needs to be won on the first corner and if you think about it when your playing single player that is where you make up the most places. I know people have been complaining about the short races and I believe they are having more of an effect than we think.

Yeah, single player can be a bit ridiculous sometimes. I didnt really play single player like i would online. I just wanted to get the trophy for completing it so i could careless about that, but i do get where your coming from. A friend of mine that i used to play GT5 with would cut the inside corner everysingle time, not be able to break better then me, then hit me and then proceed to get mad at me because he said he had a clean overtake and supposedly i hit him when the crash would have never happened if he didnt try to move ahead racing dirty.

+100 billion.

I don't even begin to attempt to care about maybe considering the possibility of racing the AI cleanly anymore. It's not worth it, especially in Season Play where they're worthless obstacles, upgraded/tuned to power down straightaways but crawl around corners on stock tires. On the last race of the 9th season at Le Mans, they were plowing full-speed into the superglue sand traps on the Mulsanne chicanes. Seriously??

They could have made all the singleplayer races 1-on-1 against M.Rossi. The only difference it would make is you wouldn't have to find the best way to slip through the herd on the first corner unscathed.

I agree completely that it's setting an overwhelmingly terrible precedent for inexperienced players going online. It's like Turn 10 wanted to ruin the public lobby experience.

Don't you get more laps when you choose from the Event List instead? 3-5 I think so far that I noticed. I much prefer the Forza AI now that I have stepped away from GT5 a bit.
They don't quit and they respond to racing situations with pressure and make mistakes and stuff. Easier to drive around the AI in GT, but they won't race you. They just put in their lap times and you have to determine how fast you need to be to catch them before the end of a 5 lap stint. I would agree though that there are some Forza AI with poorly upgraded cars that suck in the corners though. You could easily say that both GT and Forza promote bad race craft by using such short racing stints. But it's really how the driver approaches his gaming that affects their race craft skills. People are going to get the experience they are looking for. I have found no problem racing around the Ai in either game, just Occasional frustration with both. I need more time with a wheel around Forzas AI to fully investigate it's AI though, but at least it's adjustable.

How do they make sand that can stop a 260 mph supercar in 40 ft?

Though not realistic, i think they did that instead of penalties. Which makes it easier to avoid bogus penalties and still avoid short cutting. I think it's a good idea. If you end up in the kitty litter you deserve to have your race messed up. I found the bigger sand traps to feel rather accurate though. The small ones near chicanes seem to have altered physics that penalize you for attempting to use them as short cuts.

One other related thing: It bugs me to no end when the AI drafts off of me, thus invalidating both my current and next lap times! It can make it really hard to race 'clean' laps even though my laps are flawless otherwise... I find it becomes even harder to care about he AI when they can wreak havoc with your race from both 100 m in front and 100 m behind.

So annoying.

When a drafting AI stuffs up my record attempt I usually go back and do a couple of hot laps on the same track to work it out of my system.
