Forza Fans - Controller Configuration

Hi,

Are there any Forza fans who have changed the controller setup to match that of Forza. I remember playing the old GT series with accelerate, brake etc on the coloured buttons, but since playing Forza it just didn't feel right anymore, so now the 'R' trigger buttons do accelerate and brake.

Would of course prefer a wheel, but when I started thinking about it I thought a racing seat would do as well, then I'd need a new TV in the spare room mounted eye level when seated and it started looking a bit too dear. lol

I've got the Power A controller because I've always felt that the PS controllers have been too small and uncomfortable for my hands. I changed my button layout to match what you'd have in Forza but ended up switching back to the factory button layout of GT5.

I did the same thing when I first got GT5, due to playing Forza so much. I recommend picking up the PDP dual triggers for the DS3 though. They seemed to help a bit with modulation of the brake/gas, and also help keep your fingers from slipping off the rounded "triggers" on the PS controller.

Yes I changed my controller layout, mostly because of the analog triggers on the controllers now but I went the other way. After playing Forza for the last 2 years with the controller and the MSWheel I got the DFGT for GT5P and I thought man this is such a bteer wheel than the one I have for the XBox if only I could use it there.

So I bought a PWTS and while waiting for GT5 used that on Forza to get the feel of it and now on GT5. It is nice on Forza but it is great on GT5.

I only use the DS controller to navigate the menus in GT5.

No. I can't even get the setup I prefer in GT5 because we're not allowed to pick what each button does anymore, unless we have a wheel.. or at least GT5P was like that.
Anywho, I bought a wheel now, so it doesn't matter.

FYI: DFGT 99$
House chair: Likely Free
bookshelf converted to wheel stand: 35$
Bought a 30$ bookshelf from Wal-Mart, removed bottom shelf, screwed entire thing together with 1 million screws for stability, placed L shaped brackets via screws on bottom to hold pedals.
I personally used the L brackets so my legs could stick out past the wheel for comfort, but it isn't 100% necessary.

You can map the buttons on the controller in GT5
You could do it in GT5P as well. I have did it in both. Even let me map the right analog stick as my gear shift.

Seems like the only think I could not map was the <Pause> button

i can confrim this as i changed my accel/brake to the right joystick, alot of people think im weird for doing it that way but i find it much easier lol

Isn't it on the right stick by default anyway? It is in most games.

oh,honestly.i really dont remember lol,i thought it was set r2/l2 by default,...oops...either way i still changed other controls around.

Yep, I have R2 and L2 for accelerate and brake and triangle for gear up and square for gear down. can't drive any other now been doing it that way for ages. In fact when shift came out could't play manual cause gears can't be ste in that way.

The first thing I did was map the accelerate and brake to the triggers. And I haven't played enough Forza to have ever noticed. :) The triggers just make more sense and give you a greater range of motion.

I also changed the controller first thing, but realized the small shape of the controller made it hard for me to modulate the gas and brake with the triggers, so I went back to the standard setup before throwing that out and getting a wheel. x3

The very first thing I did. Map the accel/brake to R2/L2 and then mapped the right stick to be my shifter. It was fantastic until I got my DFGT.

I presently play on a wheel, but for a handful of days before getting my Driving Force GT I played GT5 with a controller and I mapped throttle and brake to the R2 and L2 respectively. Any racing game that I've ever played during at least this and the previous generation have been played with throttle and brake handled via triggers. Using face buttons for these things is so two-generations-ago.

yeah I have those too
But they break easily
Im on my third pair

When I used DS3 in the beginning when I just moved to an other home I had changed the gas/brake to the triggers. After a while when there was room for a G25 again I installed the wheel again..

I used the trigger caps from speedlink, which cost me €5. I bought them for games like NFS Hot Pursuit

Funny how i thought i was alone on the crappy default settings for this game. Using triggers is def the way to go and without those adapters it sucks using them because they are hard to keep all the way in. Sony really should revise those stupid triggers
