I'm very worried about the traffic variety. Based on the Dev Direct plus this, we get the following as traffic cars:
  • Hyundai IONIQ 5 N
  • Honda Beat
  • Nissan Fairlady Z 432
  • Mitusbishi Galant VR-4
  • Mitsubishi Montero Exceed
  • Honda Acty

They better scan a Toyota Crown Comfort/Crown Athlete and make taxi versions of them.
Indeed. This list is very off-putting, it could only be worsen by just using again the FH2-FH5 traffic, and that's about it.

One of them, a korean car. I only spotted a few Ioniq 5 when I was there, and they were all taxis in Kyoto. And this one is a N...the remaining ones, all 90's japanese cars (except the Fairlady, even older) which is funny since spotting a 2000's car in normal traffic is already challenging...I did expect 1 or 2 specific traffic cars too, such as the Crown Confort or JPN Taxi at the very least, but...seems like not happening. Shame since this game deserved FH1 attention to traffic but...hopefully that's it, and everything else will make up for it.

At the end of the video, we had another time attack circuit revealed, but with a catch: it's not similar to the one presented in the developer direct in terms of being a single track. On the contrary, what was presented in today's video has more layout variations to be driven. Because of this, I tried to find a real-life circuit but couldn't find one that resembled it due to the angle of the mini-map and the fact that it's not complete. However, based on what was shown on the mini-map, I believe it's a large real-life kart track because of the different layouts that can be made on it, or it could just be a fictional circuit. But because of it, I believe it's possible that, in addition to the time attack times being reset every week, the layout of certain tracks could also change every week.

They seemingly will drop exclusive footage for the whole month.

I hope the next drop is a bit more substantial.

Guess that explains the lack of customization details. Was hoping this gameplay would be a little more substantial but still here's my key takeaways:

  • Roads look a bit more fun to drive on than base map FH5's roads.
  • Tokyo doesn't look like the same copy pasted buildings everywhere which was my main worry, and it looks properly dense compared to everything we've had before.
  • Plenty of variety in biomes and lots to see, reminds me of FH3-4 in that regard respectively.
  • The poor HDR to SDR conversion that bleached out all of FH5's color seems to have been improved here, or maybe it's just the map itself having more color to it?
  • The highway looks like it actually means something again! FH2 vibes from it, which is a very good thing as I think that game still has the best highway in any of the horizon games.

Overall though, I still want to see more details before I pre-order so hopefully tomorrow's(?) footage is a bit heavier.

Entering a tunnel looks a bit off to me. It looks like there is no light inside the tunnel, only when you are already inside, you see the lights and everything.

Seems like driving into a black hole.

Tunnels can look like that during daytime, depending on the internal lighting of the tunnel and angle of the sun

I think for this one I will have to experience it in game for myself.

There is just something a bit weird to my eyes when the saleen enters the tunnel.
Its either the tunnel being too dark before entering or the tunnel being too bright while inside. Or I just need to experience a tunnel irl again and I am on to nothing.

Tbf they are running some sort of normal (non RT) GI for this, which definitely makes certain areas darker than normal. That plus their "HDR" effect of increasing exposure as soon as you enter the tunnel can have that effect.

Ah, yes, famously "colorful" Tokyo...

Why has our society chosen to elect its worst idiots to the post of "opinion leader"?

Gas stations? Welcome to running out of gas every ten minutes, because why have refillable gas if you don't have to use it? It's just another chore, that's all.
Here's the thing, tho: in FH3 (and probably in latter games, although I am not sure about it) you could race w/ fuel and tire consumption on. And if you ran out of fuel? Well, you better Fast Travel back to the Festival. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have gas stations act in their actual capacity (or even as a more arcade-y "car fix up station") for people running with sim damage / consumption, and leave them as a nice bit of scenery for sane people...

Can't say that was the best 9 minutes of gameplay they could have debuted today.

Still, the environments did look gorgeous and it was nice to see some confirmation of a few details (like road count!)

I'm very curious to see how this "customization" deep dive goes.

So far we know these details

  • New bodykits (on select cars)
  • New rims
  • Ability to select different rims front to back
  • Updated Forza Aero
  • Paintable window stickers
I'm not sure that's enough to justify a 9-10 minute video (especially if it's just 1 car they're showing)

I'm quite skeptical...but hopefully PG has a few more surprises up their sleeves and do a better job than this round of gameplay.

Why does it feel like the switch up is happening so suddenly? During the teasers everybody seemed to be generally positive about the game despite warranted skepticism, but now it's shifted into full negativity. Is the cycle of hating the newest game just happening again, then?

I thought the segment was fine, if just a bit lacking. I mean, we finally got some more footage of Tokyo which is a big win. Such a shame people like AR12 and Ericship (don't think I forgot about BlackPanthaa either) seem to be the Forza channels that get the most views, really that should be going to channels like HokiHoshi.

Specifically I see Nick complaining about traffic density when...that was addressed in the post he quote retweeted? I am still skeptical of the game too but this is just doom and gloom for the sake of it. Or, more in character for him, just another attempt to garner engagement.

The amount of whining on the video is... well, I'd like to say it's surprising, but I've been on the internet too long. What, because they chose the wrong car? Come on.

That tweet is AR12 praising it on one account, then QRTing with hate on another account. Utter nonsense.

Still didn't see any convenience stores or coffee vending machines, though.
We saw at least one konbini.

This complaining is nothing new. We’ve been through it four times before.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the video, it looked beautiful and definitely a big upgrade on Mexico and Horizon 5 but it felt soulless.

However I'm completely aware of the fact that this is just the first video they have shown and we have more to come, and of the fact that the traffic was turned down, it it felt odd that they showed us this first.

This new map is SOO much better than Mexico. Traffic density be damned because the amount of roads, hills, buildings and props far outweighs that of Horizon 5, which had a lot of empty, flat areas.

You're telling me an unfinished game is unfinished?!

No way!

I guess "PRE-RELEASE IN-GAME FOOTAGE" on the bottom of the entire video wasn't enough of a hint.

Youtube influencers ability to find "controversy" in anything is quite amazing.

The biggest problem I noticed with the video is that IGN recorded it in HDR and posted it in SDR which washed out the entire image.

Stupid YouTube algorithm encourages controversies...

Luckily, the majority of the people that are genuinely interested in FH6 know how to read and also know that the game isn't finished even without the message saying it's pre-release footage.

Youtube Influencers are toxic and most of the time have no idea what they are actually talking about, most establishments hate them.

They could literally build a game specifically for him with only features he requested and he'd still find a way to complain and whine. Complaining's his thing.

Remember back in FH4 one of the circuits in Edinburgh was an hommage to a circuit found in PGR3? Wouldn't it be funny to have a Tokyo R246 hommage in this one?

Edit: Some comments after I've watched this video.

First off, they probably should've posted this right after the first look, to set the record straight regarding the traffic and some other details.

Secondly, it's so nice to see Luke Reilly be in charge of these deep dives. In my opinion he always makes excellent racing game reviews. He and Ryan McCaffrey are two of the very few people that I genuinely like at IGN.

Lastly I wanted to say that I'm excited for the rest of the coverage. It seems like we'll get a deep dive on the map and the different biomes next week 😊

Little more info from this vid.

They had a team fly to PG for this deep dive.

The gameplay shown today is slightly different from what Luke saw, he saw it in the GR GT, not the Saleen S7.

Next week covers

  • Deeper look at each biomes
  • Deeper look at Open World experiences (like Time Attack and Drag Meets)

Then

  • Deeper look at customization improvements (Window Stickers and Forza Aero mentioned)
  • Deeper look at the Forza Editions - "very cool this time around"
  • Deeper look at New event types
  • More stuff they didn't want to giveaway just yet.

Hopefully the showing next week will be more thought out than what was shown today.

After watching the IGN video, I have high hopes for the game.
The changing seasons and the diversity of the landscapes are something that I believe will excite me as it did in FH 4.
I am anxiously waiting to learn more about whether there will be any "tracks" in the game where races will be organized. And finally, what kinds of climbing routes or 'touge' will there be.
Finally, of course, the whole rich Japanese car culture that I believe the game can "exploit" and give us something truly unique!!!

I can recommend a racing game YouTuber who actually understands the gameplay choices Playground Games make with their games. The YouTuber is OKD Games - OKADA. In this video, he mentions that for open world racing games, it is a standard practice to make the roads wider (obviously for gameplay reasons).

I know his videos are only in Japanese, but by opening the transcript and translating it into English, you get what he is saying. The good thing is that he doesn’t fall into the clickbait nonsense and ragebait of some other YouTubers out there.

Update:

Not a good look for IGN, and not a great impression for PGG and FH6.

IGN has always been hit or miss, I tend to pay less attention to them than I have in the past. But, at the same time, people should realize it's pre-release footage and if I recall correctly, they didn't have a lot of traffic in the preview videos for FH5 either.
From reading most of the comments on YouTube, Reddit, and other social media sites, I can say that a lot of people either failed to read that it's a PRE-RELEASE BUILD or don't know how game development works at all.

Or having some ridiculous agenda against the game.
A lot of them are just sheep that follow whomever is the latest and greatest and don't form their own opinions. It boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than bash the newest movie/game before even getting a chance to see or play it for themselves.

Independent thinking has become a thing of the past.
