Yeah, I was holding out hope that this instalment would be a footballing ballet simulator with underwater skiing sections but nooooo lazy devs making it a driving game like the last five...
You know what he means, though. 4->5 saw ranked racing removed. 5->6 saw clubs removed. I can see why someone who liked particular elements might see the game as basically the same but worse each instalment.

I really don't.

Which would be ignoring the features which were added but don't fit his personal preferences. If someone's going to make a point about particular aspects of the game, gross generalisation doesn't help in getting it across.

I honestly don't care about most of what's been added in FH6 as it's mostly either useless stuff nobody asked for or completely underveloped. In my opinion, beyond the nice map, negative changes clearly outweigh positive ones. What shocks and disappoints me most about this latest installment is the lengths the publishers and developers have gone to in order to turn the game into an experience that is as sterile, hollow, and isolated as possible — stripping out any form of communication or interaction, whether within the player community or between players and developers.

If you wanted to completely destroy any sense of community in a game, you would do exactly what has happened to the FH series recently: you cut dedicated servers, clubs, and all forms of chat (text or voice); you remove the Playground Games mode; you shut down the official game forums—and in return, you "gift" players completely pointless "Car Meets." It is utterly baffling to me how a game with such incredible potential could be reduced to such a state, especially given that this hostility towards community-building features stands in stark contrast to the toxic there-is-no-competition-and-we-are-all-winners-positivity the game otherwise tries so desperately to project.

If we're playing the "guess the series update" game, I'd like to throw these three in the ring;

  • Eclectic Domestics (Kei Car Update! We could always use more PG ;))
  • Retro Racers (Taking a bunch of the classic race cars from FM2023 and theming and update around them)
  • Liberty Walk (A brand partnership that makes sense, + I feel like there's more to come from this tweet)

Plus, I think we're likely to see repeats of these themes from FH5

  • American, Japanese, European & German Automotive
  • Community Choice
  • Back to the 90's & Modern Horizons (themed around a particular decade)
  • Apex All-Stars
  • Horizon Retrowave (One of the most popular FH5 updates)
  • Hot Wheels (not an expansion tie-in, just a general HW themed update with the returning catalogue of HW cars)
And probably a bunch more that featured in FH5.
I fully expect some kind of EventLab and upgrade-focused Series updates in the not-so-distant future, considering the Builder and Mechanic outfits are still locked behind the Festival Playlist. Same goes for the retro series, going by the Retrowave outfit also being behind there.

Heck, I bet you could surmise a good few Series themes just looking at these:

Retrowave Outfit: Either a Retrowave Part 2 or some kind of '80s focused Series
Builder's Outfit: EventLab Island coming back?
Mechanic Outfit: I feel like we're never out of the woods for a Series focused entirely on car upgrades. This would likely be part of the first one.
Delivery Outfit: IMO confirms that the next Job is mail delivery, and that there'll be a Van and Utility themed Series to celebrate
Dinosaur and Shark Outfits: Considering that the Shark outfit was included in Modern Horizons as a reference to Jaws (according to that update's stream IIRC, as part of their then-ongoing collab with Universal for the Universal Icons car pack), I wonder if they still have a collab in the works with Universal that'll bring in more cars. Still thinking it's gonna be Fast and Furious for one of the expansions, with these outfits being in the commemorative pre-release Series to reference Jurassic Park and Jaws, though.
Natural Racesuit: This being a palette swap of the Vintage Racesuit does imply a Retro Racers Series is coming. Gotta have SOME sort of racing history Horizon Story, after all!
White Suit: ...how much y'all wanna bet this could be a 007-themed Series? I know it'd mean working with Amazon now, but You Only Live Twice was filmed in Japan, and its 60th anniversary is next year, so I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped in a few different Bond cars and threw this in as a commemorative reward.

I think this paragraph conflates two separate points. The first half deals with your opinion about whether anybody asked for new physics or integrated game modes like time attack. The rest is about community support features which, although a worrying and unfortunate omission, don't affect whether the game itself is a playable, cohesive and largely bug-free experience.

I'd level criticism about missing clubs and the destruction of the forums at the publishers rather than the devs as I suspect the latter aren't responsible for removing forza.net's discussion spaces and suggestions hub. It's still a game which I've played for over five hundred hours now without getting bored, so they can't have got everything wrong about it.

Totally agree that the publisher has to be blamed for the majority of decisions, not the devs, but as a player, I’m simply interested in the decisions that affect me—not who makes them. In the case of valid criticism, it really doesn't matter at first whether the publisher or the developers are the ones who should feel addressed. Furthermore, the fact that a game is "playable, cohesive and largely bug-free" alone by no means guarantees that it is fun. And if, after two nearly identical predecessors—aside from the map—and a development period of four and a half years, things like integrated game modes really strike you as a major breakthrough, then that’s great for you; but other players simply have different expectations.

I'm also interested in how the game affects me as a player which is why I pointed out that if I found the game playable for an extended length of time then I'm not finding it a chore. Games I ditched within days of first playing them like GT7 and Motorfest didn't have those core aspects which appealed to me for that long and although things may have changed with them I haven't been back to check.

Now this just strikes me as disingenuous. Time attacks and drag strips may not be a major breakthrough and I didn't say they were but environmental, lighting and physics changes affect everything I do in the game and it's hard for me to find a complaint about the way those aspects turned out if they didn't make it actively worse to play. They could and no doubt should have added more but determining how they do this and keep the majority of players happy is something that requires community feedback and open discussion instead of radio silence.

Ah, yes, Clubs. The feature that had no in-game utility whatsoever and most people even ignored existed. That's why FH6 is dead, its developers lazy to the point that they've turned our milk sour and our fields barren: Clubs are missing.

The "Ignore" list grows longer and longer...

Yeah, plus--Discord exists. My home Discord server has a thread just for FH6 discussion and sharing.

A lot of these are what Battlefield 2042 called 'legacy features', things you could easily replace with other programs. It didn't stop the Battlefield community from calling for their return (especially since that included scoreboards) but you could see why they got rid of it.

While it wasn't as much of a 'return to form' as I would have hoped, FH6 is definitely a small step in the right direction. There are far too little lower class races though, as I've said before. Add more, please.

My biggest gripe with the game's additional stuff thus far is...none of it is Japanese-centric. Okay, sure, the next update is going to feature drifting, but the updates prior were more fitting to previous games. I don't know, I just thought (or hoped/expected, even) finally coming to Japan would have resulted in the game being stupid with its influence. It still can be, don't misunderstand what I'm griping about — it's not that it can't be, it's that it isn't already. If that makes any sense.

Beyond that, my biggest fear is that we're getting another Hot Wheels and/or Lego DLC. Please don't. Just...do not.

You had to actively join a club, so the people in them weren't ignoring their existence. We had a GTP club with loads of members that had zero cheaters, making it much more useful than the world leaderboards.

I would definitely love to see Liberty Walk and Retro Racers themed series. So many great potential reward cars for both themes. I’m getting a little burnt out on tiny Japanese cars already, but I’m sure there will be many more to come since they seem to be rather popular. Hopefully we’ll see some high performance cars with British Automotive.

Motor swaps appearing in some cars but not others (even if the swap exists irl)

The Celica (which SHOULD have been in from launch..) is a great example. It includes the inline 4 from the Altezza, as I do not get for the life of me why that engine isn't included in the likes of the AE86, AW/SW MR-2s, where there has been swapping that engine into those models, but we get the K-series, which seems a "eh, it's a NA Inline 4" kind of vibe (or if the Beams couldn't be possible, at least the engine from the Toyota Celica SS-II?)

As on launch, we had the "Hero" car of that update have its 3-Rotor in various RX models (shocked we didn't get a rotary swap in most 'Retro Sports Cars'?)

I’ve been doing a lot of racing in Playground games recently (I finally hit level 25), and it sounds like the crowds are now counting down in Japanese. Weren’t they doing the countdown in English when the game launched?

They do both, sometimes english and sometimes Japanese and it’s been like that since Day 1. 👍

I find it strange that only certain cars have 2 different grades of slick tires available and that they’re both just referred to as slick tires. I’ll have to check more thoroughly to see if only certain Car Types have access to the higher grip slicks or what. At first I thought it was just Track Toys and Extreme Track Toys but I noticed that the CLK GTR can equip both types but I don’t think every Retro Supercar can.

That usually happens in most race events, alternating between English and Japanese.

SAN... NI... ICHI... GO!!!

I noticed that we are missing older cars. The oldest vehicle is a 1932 Ford De Luxe Five-Window Coupe. Maybe they will come along someday, because the second oldest is a 1953 Chevrolet Corvette. 👴

Started to do some more Spec Racing over the past week or two since being exposed to it during the Festival Playlist. Its so fun and addictive but why PG do we have such a limited number of cars and even fewer tracks used throughout. It honestly bugs me so much that even the content already in the game they aren't putting to use, let alone adding more.

It would be so good to just have it on a random number generator from any car in the game. Literally no reason why not.

+1
Also more cars would allow them to divide lobbies. IMO there should be at least 2 categories: D-A and A-R.
As a keyboard player I've absolutely no reason to join R class lobby. Well, I can, probably wouldn't podium that much, but as you can imagine highpower untuned RWD car is not something very easy to drive for me ;)
Wouldn't mind also "no collision" mode with everybody starting from the same position. Would be exagerated time attack/live rivals mode? Yes, but I won't count how many times starting position payed big role in overall finishing position.
