So, I was lucky enough today to be at the Eurogamer Expo and made my way to the FM4 booths. Here are my impressions.

So, first set of booths, running the BMW M5 round the Nurburgring (same as the BMW lM5 launch thing). Turned all aids off, horrible. Car felt slow, heavy, didnt turn very well, could barely get round. I thought, hmm, that cant be right. So I changed to the booths running the demo.

Glad I did, had an ample 20 minutes continuous to carry out some GTP requests. The demo cars are, Mercury Cougar, Impreza 2011, Ferrari 599 GTO on the Alps track. 2 laps, 12 car race. Selected the 599. Firstly, medium difficulty, TSC medium, ABS on, steering normal, felt nice, very very simalair to FM3 which concerned me initially. The graphics, astounding, this game is very, very pretty. The Alps track is a stunning sight and the much touted lighting system is very very good. With the aids on, as I say, very like FM3, easy to steer and catch slides with the hidden steering help, won the race easily.
Then I ramped it up, straight to expert, pro AI, jumped in, I thought, hmm, this still feels like FM3, AI were tough though, came 4th. Then I realised the steering mode had not set to sim when I went to expert, so I went back in, set that to sim with the rest of the expert settings.

Amazing, the difference stting it to sim steering, incredible, I did not think it would make it feel so different. The steering becomes very tricky on the pad, I found myself losing the car under braking, overtseering left right and center, I just couldnt grasp it with a pad, its very much a wheel setting. It feels a lot more precise though and involves you much more in the process of moving the car through the corners, very good fun.

Someone asked about tyre smoke also, nice look and texture to it, but still nowhere near enough of it.

Thanks, and look forward to the demo, its good fun!

Nice read 👍 cant wait too get my hands on this game!

A nice read, indeed. But how do you not mention the audio...

...Wats da matta wif u? :p

You are correct, it was noisy, oddly though, most game areas had headphones but the FM4 ones did not unfortunatly.

Were you able to change the FFB strength? How was it on default, did it change with going into the sim setting?

What view did you use or find more comfortable?

Did you have that little hud icon that showed your draft on?

Get any damage? If so, how did it feel trugging along the track compared to FM3?

It was on a pad so I dont know about FFB, the cockpit view I used and it felt very comfortable, more usable than the FM3 one with a slight look to apex as well. There are a few HUD icons, overtakes, drafts, drifting etc all pop up. I did get some damage, felt pretty simalair to be honest, big hits cripple the car, little ones affect steering and stopping, nothing really new in the damage stakes.

Is M. Rossi back?

You´ve forgot something important :)

You got to introduce yourself or tell something about your gaming career... Are you an total ignorant fanboy? or are you neutral and enjoy GT5,FM3 and also other great racing games?

Sounds like Turn 10 knocked it out of the park. Thanks for the great review!

Checks out with my experience 👍

Too bad you couldn't givee it a go with a wheel, felt even more impressive (I think).

Lol :p I dont know :D Didnt pay much attention to the AI to be honest, there were some aggressive drivers though.

I am a neutral I like to think. Playing GT5, FM3, iRacing, rFactor, F1 2011 etc and enjoying each one as much as the next.

Yeah I was hoping they would have it with wheels, especially with the size of the event, seemed like iRacing and GT5 were hogging those :p

It sounds like the demo we will be getting, but the only difference is that the demo will have the Kia Cee'd

I hate 'look to apex' =(

Kinect Headtracking FTW! 💡

Which I can't wait to try out!!

Are you going to be using it too? What do you race with anyway? Controller or wheel?

Yeah, I'll be using it. I'll most likely be using a controller until I save up enough money to buy a new wheel though. :)

Eurogamer demos the most anticipated "CAR" game on XBOX,...

... on a pad?

I don't know what to say.

👍 hard to find here in the FM section ;)

So if someone doesnt like GT5 (like myself) I am a fanboy? Sorry, but just because someone doesnt like a game that you obviously love, doesnt mean they cant take an unbiased stance on FM4.

Get over your drawing a line in the stand...

Actually it's not hard at all. I got into racers from GT1 on. I was a rabid GT fanboy at one point in my life, and I'll admit it all day every day. Eventually someone I knew asked me and my ramblings to try out his PC sims with a wheel and from then on is when I realized there's more to sim gaming than the GT flag I was waving. I was somewhat disappointed in GT4 when it launched because to me it felt more of the same. Lots of new additions to the game, huge amount of content but overall no damage, no online, no a lot of features I quite liked and saw what was happening in other racers. I even admit I didn't care at all for the photomode either. It was late FM2 that I got into photomode and I've taken a huge amount of pics in GT5 and FM3 and waiting for the day I do the same for FM4. When Forza1 launched and I tried it a few times and fell in love, albeit not played it too too much because I was PC simming a bit (and not that good lol).

Many posters in this Forza section actually do have GT games, play them, enjoy them and we're a fan of both franchises. GT5 was a joke from what many of us long time fans of the series were expecting from all the hype. Again, I got into GT from GT1 on PS1, not GT4/GT5P just a few years ago because that's what mommy and daddy bought me for my bday. If you can't afford going multiplat, it sucks but that's life. If you want to, you can do it. These aren't thousands and thousands of dollars you need to get into. Work a lil more, sell stuff, etc, just as I did to go multiplat MANY moons ago. But I get the general feeling that some here can't take criticism at all. You can tell by the blind faith in some posts. And I don't mean just GT. Forza 4, from what we know so far, is shaping up to be such a great game that yeah we still will be annoyed by certain flaws or bitter (like I still am) about the lack of Porsche. I still love GT5 but I grew bored of it quick and I still have a bit of Aspec to do on my main account. I got back into Forza 3 for the time being and this is without a wheel since my MS one died some time ago. That's sad... playing Forza3 w/a controller is more fun experience than GT5 w/a DFGT (even though the actual racing is much better in GT w/wheel).

Not hard at all, I'm exactly the same. It's not wrong to prefer one game over another ;)

I enjoy also each good racing game (I must say with F12010 I had the most fun on any console from this gen). GT5 was not so good as expected.

But that review of FM4 (don´t know the source anymore) confirmed my expectations from FM4. Pretty similar to FM3 with better graphics... I think FM4 is so much overhyped, just like GT5 was before its release...

The new lighting let everybody think FM4 looks out of this world and most of the guys here in this FM section can´t accept that GT5 (premiums) looks at least (for me much better) as good as FM4. And 1.000.000 polygons? c´mon, make one circle (headlight, rim, wheel) more round and you already have 10.000 polygons more... That´s no argument...

I really hope we can see such details in FM4 too!

But enough, it´s the wrong thread...

To me, nothing was as hyped as GT5 was. YEARS of hype. YEARS of hearing how the next full GT was going to be. They even made a Prologue for it successful in a region they never even tried and once was getting flack for even Prologue's existence (NA). They used the GT games for promoting the PS3 and the PSP. I remember GT PSP being first promoted before the PSP was even launched and I believe the same happened with the GT franchise and PS3.

T10 did hype FM3 though but it was the GT fans who took the 'definitive' line to the Nth degree... all while neglecting 'the standard' whereever the GT logo was.

And I'm with you sele... personally when all the stars align, either premiums on a 'premium' track or premiums in photo travel I've gotten jaw dropping good photo realistic pictures. Some of what I've seen with FM4 is like that as well but I don't have the game in my hands to see for sure if these are bullshots we are seeing (post processed/editted outside the game) or if they are the real deal, straight from the game itself. Of course... there's always in game visuals to see as well as photo modes always make things look better than in game gameplay

Not hard at all. In fact, most in the FM section are players of both games.

First off, I have to say I am a PS3 owner and play GT5 regularly. I am a hardcore "sim" player. I have played GTR2, rFactor, iRacing, and every GT game including prologue.

However, it seems like FM4 is taking it to GT5. Being the GT fanboy I am, this saddens me, and makes me jealous at the same time. I wont buy a 360 because the majority of the games I play are for both systems, and I can't justify paying the subscription for xbox live.

As bad as I wan't to try FM4 I have concers from past FM games. The track accuarcy is horrid in FM3. The nurburgring and other tracks are nowhere close to how they should be. Is this different in FM4? Also the lack of a 900 degree wheel is a big turn off. If these points are addressed in FM4 I might consider giving it a look, but again I can't justify paying the xbox live sub, plus the cost of buying another console, wheel, and kinect for just one game.

Which other tracks are "nowhere close" to how they should be?

I was the same way about a month considering I was only using a PS3. Then I got an Xbox for cheap. Tried FM4. Purchased a MS Wheel. Got Race Pro. Got into those games, missed the 900degrees of rotation. Bought a Fanatec GT2, and now no worries about wheel rotation or limited to in game setups. Played more games on the Xbox (Shift2, F1 2011). Compared it to the PS3 counter parts....wow...looked better and played better. Tried XBox live. Was blown away.

Now it seem the XBox is my new gaming console. Just cant beat it.

Also the last part....I dont notice inaccruate tracks, expect the ring. Maybe you were misinformed?
