The Lotus Lada is the only Lada I would ever get.
Incidentally, I just grabbed one of my Dads books to find more out about the BX 4TC and I quote "It beggared belief that a works car could be so bad" and "It had all off the Audi Quattros faults and none of its virtues", "It was comfortably the heaviest of the Group B cars at 1150kg", "It understeered drastically thanks to a locked centre differential" and "It achieved only one finish" and finally "Citroen recognised that they were throwing good money after bad". It appears it wasn't worth perservering with even if Group B hadn't died the death.

All true, but you should also remember that of the Ford GT40 was also beset by problems for the first two years it entered Le Mans. The three cars entered in 1964 all failed to finish due to mechanical problems, as did the six cars that entered in 1965. It wasn't until the major redevelopment work that took place between '65 and '66 that the GT40 legend as we know it started.
The same story can also be applied to the original 1969 Porsche 917, which was renowned for very poor handling, Both factory cars retired while leading the race and the privately entered 917 crashed; tragically killing team owner and driver John Woolfe. It was not until extensive bodywork modifications turned the car into a hugh success for the 1970 Le Mans with a one - two finish for the factory cars. The continued success of the 917 on both sides of the Atlantic is now the stuff of legend.
Now if both Ford and Porsche had taken the view that "Citroen recognised that they were throwing good money after bad" then both of these amazing cars would have been consigned to historical could-have-beens.
If group B had continued, then maybe Citroen could have revised and modified the BX into a class winner (you did forget to mention that its one finish was in Sweden where it finished 6th overall/4th in class - B12), we will never know.
The metro 6R4 gets knocked in a very similar way, mainly by people who seem to forget that while it was an underdeveloped and poorly performing group B car, its has had a very successful career as a national rally and Rallycross car. The reason being that private individuals have put the tima and money into developing the car.
OK, rant over, thats my Christmas bit for the 'underdog' done; I'm off to get drunk.
