ok, before you get your hopes up, no i haven't found any info on a new car. However, i have found some rather interesting info on a car which we all know is in the game: the Mitsubishi Starion 4WD Rally Car. I couldn't believe this info either, as it states that......the Starion 4WD Rally Car IS ACTUALLY A GROUP B RALLY CAR!!!! HOW COOL IS THAT??? Here's a link to the site in which i found this info: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.stacey1/4wd.html

Here is a pic for those who do not recognize this car

this against the orginal Audi Quattro should be fun in the Ice Arena

This car was included in Sega GT 2002 for the XBOX. Very nice and unique, but no competitor for the "true" Gr. B monsters of the eighties : Audi Sport Quattro, Peugeot 205 T16 and Lancia Delta S4.

Has anyone here ever actually driven a Starion. There is one for sale by my house I am thinking of test driving just to try it. They are fairly obscure around here.

I drove quite a few when they were new. Neat car. Take that one for a drive. Just be sure to locate some parts cars if you need spares though. as new parts are hard to come by.

AH HAHAHA that Lada is fantastic.

I guess now we know where those tuner boyz get their ideas huh?

actually - Top Gear on tv took a Lada and gave it to Lotus to tune. From this

DeltaS4
It's group b prototype, no-one raced with it as factory team. I have not got information to my pages yet.

Here, some other group b prototypes:

You missed the Citroen BX group B prototype, the BX 4TC.

It did race in 1986, at the Monte, Sweden and the Acropolis.

Edited to say, my bad, just found the 4TC on your site (http://kotisivu.mtv3.fi/bryhma/Citikka.htm), my excuse is that Finnish is not a language taught at school here in the UK.

Urgh, the Citroen BX4TC is in my opinion the ugliest car to have ever been seen at a rally event. It was really unsuccessful too. I'm glad its not going into GT4. I once heard a rumour that Citroen gathered up the 200 homologated road versions and destroyed them to avoid embarrassment, i guess that link proves it wrong.

If you think the Group B car was ugly, take a look at the front end of the homologation road car.

Nice bank of lights

The rumour regarding the road cars being destroyed was just that; and while it was never successful; it also never got the chance. It came a long far to late to ever have a chance in group B, given Citroen's history in all forms of rally competition, there is no reason that it could not have made its mark (still be an ugly car).

True, it's the same story with the Ford RS200. It came along too late, and while it promised to be one of the leading contenders never got to show its full potential. Maybe the BX4TC could have been successful if Group B wasnt banned, who knows.

The Lotus Lada is the only Lada I would ever get.

Incidentally, I just grabbed one of my Dads books to find more out about the BX 4TC and I quote "It beggared belief that a works car could be so bad" and "It had all off the Audi Quattros faults and none of its virtues", "It was comfortably the heaviest of the Group B cars at 1150kg", "It understeered drastically thanks to a locked centre differential" and "It achieved only one finish" and finally "Citroen recognised that they were throwing good money after bad". It appears it wasn't worth perservering with even if Group B hadn't died the death.

All true, but you should also remember that of the Ford GT40 was also beset by problems for the first two years it entered Le Mans. The three cars entered in 1964 all failed to finish due to mechanical problems, as did the six cars that entered in 1965. It wasn't until the major redevelopment work that took place between '65 and '66 that the GT40 legend as we know it started.

The same story can also be applied to the original 1969 Porsche 917, which was renowned for very poor handling, Both factory cars retired while leading the race and the privately entered 917 crashed; tragically killing team owner and driver John Woolfe. It was not until extensive bodywork modifications turned the car into a hugh success for the 1970 Le Mans with a one - two finish for the factory cars. The continued success of the 917 on both sides of the Atlantic is now the stuff of legend.

Now if both Ford and Porsche had taken the view that "Citroen recognised that they were throwing good money after bad" then both of these amazing cars would have been consigned to historical could-have-beens.

If group B had continued, then maybe Citroen could have revised and modified the BX into a class winner (you did forget to mention that its one finish was in Sweden where it finished 6th overall/4th in class - B12), we will never know.

The metro 6R4 gets knocked in a very similar way, mainly by people who seem to forget that while it was an underdeveloped and poorly performing group B car, its has had a very successful career as a national rally and Rallycross car. The reason being that private individuals have put the tima and money into developing the car.

OK, rant over, thats my Christmas bit for the 'underdog' done; I'm off to get drunk.
