It seems that when I decrease the fov by increasing the zoom to max, the frame rate on gt5 is unacceptably low, somewhere about 15-30, much lower then when running default fov setting in the game. Anyone else experiencing similar issues when using a decreased fov in gt5?

I would simply go back to the default setting, but I can't drive with such a distorted view anymore.

The frame rate does not change at all for me. If you feel the game is going slower it could be that objects look slower approaching you because the FOV is changed in general. Ex if you play Unreal on PC with FOV at 100° then change it to 70° it will feel slower... A lot slower.

I use the narrow FOV occasionally. I don't think the framerate is different from the wider FOV (around 60fps) but what you're experiencing is the side-effect of narrowing the field of view in that you perceive the motion to be slower.

Do a google search on "field of view and perception of speed" and you'll see a few study that's been conducted to explain the sensation.

No its not that at all. Its the frame rate, it stutters quite bad, there it no way it is 60 fps, it feels like 15. The whole reason I am using the smaller fov is I started using it in iRacing, where I have it set to 45 degrees. It has similar choppiness to the following example at 15 fps in the link. http://www.boallen.com/fps-compare.html
