Hi all,

I am wondering what anyone would recommend for a free download manager that can resume file downloads at later dates. It doesn't have to be the greatest program as long as it works and doesn't contain spyware.

I had Freshdevice's Freshdownload but can no longer use it. For some strange reason their website refuses to accept my email as a valid email address even though it is for a new registration code(The program is free but requires a registration code).

Thanks.

Does the trial version of it expire in a set amount of days? I have it right now and do like it but don't want to have the exact same problem once the trial is up.

Ok, I have GetRight, and it doesn't download? I try downloading a video here at GTPlanet.net, and it downloads a "web page"?

How does the programe work for some of you, this is the second downloading manager I have dealt with and I get nothing but boloney :(

Only had a computer for 8months, so give me a break will you.

I think that's something J implemented at server-level. It happens to me sometimes when I try to download stuff.

I had GetRight, and it was giving me problems for the past couple of weeks with downloading videos, so I got rid of it. Now, no more problems. Plus, it had, and was just in my computer up until a few hours ago, an unwise.exe file that was still in my computer. Click on Der Alta's thread here about Ad-aware and viruses to read more about those.

I'm not sure but, I think when you Right Click>Save As to a Windows Media File, it starts downloading as a web page, but when the download is finishes as a Windows Media File, this only happens in Firefox, for me, atleast.

I right click > Download with > GetRight  And choose the source to download (Video). Blah, I went through the Help menus and tried downloading other was, also from different websites; I don't know, I can't figure it out, makes me feel stupid. I ONLY have Firfox; I do have Microsoft's explore, but I refuse to use it unless I have to, plus for some reason it doesn't work properly. I just cant leave Firefox.. :sly:

Solid Lifters, I have gotten a viruses somehow two days after installing GetRight. Not saying that is what caused it, but who knows.

What works well? Net Transport gets good reviews, so I might try them; do they have a free trial version at Download.com; I'll check it out.

You could buy a OS X – It has built-in system-wide resumable downloads. :p

Sorry mate, I can re-build lawnmower motors, fix plumbing, install car-audio and home-audio systems, shave with one hand, and more, but when it comes to computers I'm still learning.

I assume your recommendation is a joke, with the: :p Really though, I'm seriousely wanting a recommendation on a download-manager: affordable, no spyware, fairly user-friendly or quick to learn (no manuals :| ), ect...

edit: What is OS X?

Sorry, I should've quoted – I was replying to Matrixhasu77. ;) OS X is Apple's operating system (known as "Mac" to most people)… I know that Matrix has an old Mac, which is why I tongue-in-cheek suggested that he buy OS X, since I know he wants to but can't. So yeah. :)

Werd.

When I open that in Firefox, I get a " document contains no data " error box. 👎

It works for me on Mozilla 1.7.3 and Firefox 0.10.1, and probably IE6 if I tried.

I see Sage, no problem.

Odd; Net Transport only states that it supports Operating systems of windows (see bottom of page at url link). *shrugs*

Just for reference, I'm looking through Cnet.

WackGet! It's incredibly simple and you aren't going to find a download manager that uses fewer system resources. It resumes, pauses, all that crap.

Unless you use wget, but you don't want to do that.

Geez... this thread got dug up from underneath a rock... You do realize that I have a custom built pc now, right? :odd: I still want a new mac, preferably an ibook to use for college. Too bad I can't afford it though.

Net Transport has worked wonders for me, though.

Funny indeed. Actually, why is it funny? You did the right thing in not making a new thread.

Anyway, you'd better be using WackGet.

Funny...If I posted my concerns in a new thread, a Moderator would have told me I should've searched...

I'm not saying you shouldn't have brought the thread up. In fact, it's for this very reason(I.E. asking further on what I asked six months ago) that I'm glad you brought it up. 👍 Sage just failed to notice the date of the thread, that'll all. Everybody's done that before. Even I have.
