Question about the downloading of games or content.

It's been a while since i have downloaded anything so i forgot how it works.

Can you play a game while the download is going on or do you have to stay in the playstation store the whole time?

You can download stuff while playing a game, but it won't be as fast.

The PS3 has had background downloading for awhile now, at least a year+. So yes you can, however keep in mind if you play an online enabled game that can/will pause the download. Just so you know.

Finally got InFAMOUS downloaded. Took a good 3-4 hours (not including the 3 times I had to restart the download).

I'm thankful the ones for the PSP will be much smaller :D lol

This includes GT5. I had started a download and then went to play GT5 for a few hours... it wasn't until I quit, that the download resumed :D

So for the record you can download different games from a different PSN account on the same PS3? Sorry but this is a long thread!

Not that I *expect* 4 or 5 games but I would be a fool not to.

Also makes sense, as the PS3 can be shared, no need for more than one per household and each user legitimately has an interest and their own account, I think this is why there are "only" 5 games overall :)

Man that's a long time.

I just got through purchasing all the DLC courses for Tiger Woods 2012 and i can already tell it is going to take a really really long time.

Now i wished i would have slept more this morning, because i will be up for quite some time waiting for this to Download.

You can(and I have), they will also be playable on all accounts on the system.

I tried donwloading my "Free PS3 game 1" game but as I chose it while attemting to select "Download" it froze and said that 80898709(<--not the real number) or what ever the number is. So I turned if off and back on and now I dont have my "Free PS3 game 1" option nor the game. And this happen yesterday.
Today I did the same thing and everything happend the same (still no option for game 1). Now I dont have PS3 Free game 1 nor 2. The option to choose 1 & 2 on the Welcome page is gone. WTF? Help?

One other thing i have found out.

It will not let me Download in the background. It says it's confirmed whenever i click to download in the background, but whenever i go to check it the screen doesn't show it downloading. So it looks as if i have to stay in the download screen to get my downloads.

It's not too big of a deal and it's to be expected with the store just coming back up.Just thought i would give a heads up to everyone about this issue.

Yeah I found similar, started the download, loaded up GT5, quit it after a couple of races and it seemed to have started the download again. Seems best to keep an eye on it and not play other stuff, for sure.

If anyone finds their links 'vanishing' try this, from the PS blog:

Try this:
1. On your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable navigate to the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB
2. Log into your PlayStation Network account and choose Account Management > Transaction Management > Services List
3. Choose “PlayStation Network Promotions” from the list of services displayed
4. Select either “PS3 Free Games” or “PSP Free Games” and then choose “Select Content”

Wanted to requote this as valuable advice. Once i'd downloaded WipeOut, when I went back into the PS store i no longer had the icon for free games, just the ones for PS+ Membership. But I followed the above and it took me straight to where you can choose your games, and I was able to choose my second :)

EDIT - Sorry for double post, hope the info warrants it, my bad!

If I let my PSN+ expire and thus lose games downloaded (eg Burnout), can I get this back if I sign up again at a later date? My apologies if already answered, I might have missed this.

(I know I can keep the gift by the way)
I'm not sure about this either... although, signing up to PSN just to hold on to one or two games would be a bit pointless...

I'm enjoying Burnout Paradise, but it will cost me something like £23 to buy it once the 30 day Playstation Plus freebie runs out...

Same thing happened to me.
Thanks for requoting this, I'll try it tomorrow, hopefully it works.

Can't you buy it cheaper with PS Plus? Anything you actually buy will stay on your console, even if you payed the reduced PS Plus price

Actually, I picked up my Burnout Paradise for £10 on eBay. Check there. :) 👍

That must just be an issue with your system. I've downloaded 3 of the games so far and when I load up GT5 or any other game it pauses the download and resumes when I quit playing. Once you start the download you don't have to hit "download in background", you can just exit the store and it will keep downloading.

It's working fine now. 👍

Last night it was going at a snails pace and the only way to get anything downloaded was to keep it on the download screen.

The good thing though i was off work today so i got to play 2 new fantastic Golf Courses on Tiger Woods 2012 with my Playstation Move.:)

I cant download my 2 free games because of an error that popped up earlier. Now both "Free PS3 game" icons are gone, and I dont have anyhing!

PSN is still buggy right now... some times I get no icons, error messages and occassionally can't even sign it at all... but it did work eventually and I've managed to download Burnout Paradise with no problems... still deciding on which free games to go for, given that I already have WipEout HD/Fury and LBP... so basically just have to decide which game not to get :dopey:

My only advice to anyone without WipEout is... get WipEout. It was already a bargain at full price, so getting it for free requires the development of an entirely new word that means "like a bargain but stupendously much better than that"...

I never really enjoyed earlier WipEout games. How does this one stack up? Is it just as before but with HD graphics?

I suppose it is much the same idea, but it's just better all round IMO... different race modes mean that there is alot more to do, and obviously being online as well makes a big difference to the longevity/playability of the game. With the Fury expansion, there are now enough tracks (and game modes) to guarantee you many hours of fun - that said, it does get a bit intense as you go for those harder trophies (i.e. finishing the campaign modes on elite difficulty). I'm slightly ashamed to admit that I have almost killed a couple of controllers after suffering 'WipEout Rage' :ill:
