Just wanted to post this in case anyone else is having problems with this.

I had a situation where half the time I was shifting using the clutch and H-Shifter on my wheel that it would just pop into neutral and I'd have to re-shift. I was getting extremely frustrated until I figured it out.

It seems that if you move to a new gear with the H-Shifter while the tachometer is in the red, it will go to neutral.

This only happens when using the clutch. I'm not sure if this is accurate to real life (as I never take my car into the red).

So if you always shift before the revs go red then you won't have a problem.

Also, are you stepping off the gas each time you shift? I dont seem to have any problems shifting when doing so. (aside from the well known 1st into 2nd shift problem) Using G25

I only have that problem when downshifting using heel & toe, maybe its the way PD find to simulate a gear that wont enter.
Pushing the clutch all the way and less on the throttle is the way I find to avoid that

In first your accelerating and spinning the wheels and you quickly and properly change to second it will automatically go to neutral. It's gay I know but you can't continue the spinning the wheels during shifts.

I'm using the G27 here. This post is dead on. Just like in a real car, if the rpms are too high the synchro built into the car's transmission won't let you put the shifter into gear. You have to let the rpms idle a bit before popping it back into gear. If you're driving a manual and you try to force the shifter into gear (even with the clutch all the way in) you'll hear a nasty grind coming from the synchro.

What you may have noticed is that you're timing your shifts in a specific manner where you get back on the gas quickly. If you get on the gas a little earlier than usual you'll get out of your rhythm, and maybe miss the gear 2-3-4 times because you're blipping the throttle.

Oh no, I thought they might have gotten rid of this. It's so unrealistic:sick: This means people with a shifter are at a disadvantage when it comes to shifting speed. I noticed in GT5 the gear shifts with the standard button presses, are much faster than in GT5p and figured they might have gotten rid of this ridiculous feature.

I've done a lot of experimentation. It wasn't the gas issue. I was putting the clutch all the way down. Originally I had a bad set of pedals (fanatec standard pedals), but I upgraded to their premium club sport pedals and still had the issue. If you are having issues with shifting using an H-Shifter using a clutch, try shifting while the RPMs are still in the white just to experiment.

I'm guessing the idea implementation is to go slighting in the red, depress the clutch, and by the time you move the shifter the RPMs will be in the white.

Also, not using a clutch (clutch is optional in pro mode (one down from simulation)) or even using the clutch and paddle shifters gives you an advantage. If all you are looking for is leverage in on-line racing, don't use the clutch.

Buddy, your timing for gear change is out or I would say that you are not good enuf. You need to practice more. There isn't any problem for me using the G27 shifter. Don't blame the gadgets you own or the game.

Try till you can. Cheers bud

i have the same problem, it's not real, i don't miss any gears in my real car and i don't have to fully press the clutch. you really have to do it in slow motion in order to shift properly, i'm using a G25 and this only happened to me in this game, no proper PC sim makes this problem when shifting

Playing rFactor, iRacing, GT2 and games like those, I have no problems shifting. But in GT5 I do, I have to do it in slow motion also. It also bothers me a bit that you can't actually feel the clutch engaging, which is the problem really. You also can't set how much pedal travel it takes to engage.

Say in an F2000, the only way you can get going from a start is having the car revving around 2500rpm+. There won't be any wheel spin either. And it is because of the clutch and gear box setup. As you can adjust the clutch so it is engaged before you hit the travel stop. So I think that PD is just doing what they can and concentrating on fixing more important glitches first. I'm not worried I still play my old PC sim games online. Thats where I go for a real driving simulation, which is funny because they are years old.

I had the same problem my first race with the MX-5. I discovered that I just had to adjust my timing a little bit, just like when iRacing released the new transmission model a few months ago. Struggled like crazy until I figured it out, but now it's no problem.

I don't use the clutch unless my car is overpowered or I'm in practice mode/online.

Regular A-spec races and Bonus events, I use the paddles.
