Just about a month from now, we will get a chance to see the latest interpretation of the Toyota FT86 concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show 2011. Entitled the FT86 II, Toyota Motor Europe gives us a sneak peak at whats to come. The teaser pic shows us a familiar FT86 concept but with a little more muscle. Most notable are the larger, more defined headlamps and the very angular but raked nose. Also the fender lines are much more squared off at the sides which allow the FT to gain a more aggressive look. The FT86 II almost looks like an eagle ready to pounce on its prey. We are anxiously awaiting for the FT to arrive as we are ready to put “Fun” and “Toyota” back in the same sentence again. Here in the United States, we have a little bit of a dilemma as we aren’t sure if this will be branded a Toyota or rebadged as a Scion. Only time will tell.

I'm trying really hard to get excited about the FT86 project, but it's just not getting the blood running for me.

Same here. Toyotas have become so boring.

Owh no... Luck has never been on their side lately :(

Has nothing to do with luck ... this was never a problem as long as they had their production located in Asia alone ...

And the fact that their hardest battle was in the US about an accelerator pedal made and quality checked by US companies makes you wonder a little ... just saying ;)

Judging by the teaser it's a closer-to-production concept.

I'm hoping that the FT-86 will inspire Nissan to revive the Silvia.

We enthusiasts badly want a frugal 2-liter RWD coupe. Economic woes are slowing this down, but hopefully won't stop it.

I hope so too. I am also a little iffy on if the ft86 will really be released. If it does release, it will most likely be a scion since that is toyota's "young people" division. Aside from the z and the gtr, I am not impressed with nissan's lineup. I think they need the silvia again.

Yay. If this car can wake the company up from the crap that they been designing and building, this joint venture with Subaru may do it.

Am I seeing a hint of ZZT230 (or whatever) Celica in the new nose?

((I still say sell it worldwide as the Trueno, they'll sell 'em a ton.))

The dirty little secret in all of this is that nearly 100% of unintended acceleration cases involved drivers over the age of 55. Something like 90% were from drivers over 65.

The gas pedal saga has more to do with ergonomics than anything else.

I can see a little bit of ST231 in there, definitely the pre-facelift versions that killed all of the edgy lines the car had. Seeing as how the tC has pretty much ended up as the ST204 successor, having this as some kind of evolution of the ST231 makes sense.

Seeing as they have yet to prove ONE single unintended acceleration based on mechanical or software malfunction I believe this was more of a political issue ...

Message to Toyota: Stop making concepts, grow a pair, and put this into mass production.

My God I'd rather learn about the Battle of Hastings from an old English Professor than drive a Toyota now.

I'm fairly sure that research showed the vast majority were driver errors. Unsurprisingly.

There's your problem. History should really be taught by a history teacher ;)

Reading the news apparently collaborator Subaru will build its own Toyobaru with about 260 hp in contrast to Toyota's 200hp car. From the joint venture Toyota will gain the 4-cyl Boxer with ideal weight characteristics.

I wouldn't normally be the one saying this, but 200bhp doesn't seem like enough. The FT-86 concept has some pretty meaty tyres so if it's to go sideways like it's forebear you'd need to be pretty ham-fisted with it even with 200bhp.

I'd prefer skinnier tyres, lower weight and then you could get away with less power.

Unfortunately, manufacturers these days major on grip but things like steering feel and adjustability are pushed aside.

Again, HFS, this IS still in the concept phase...but, yeah, it's got some pretty wide tires.

still, I'm interested. it's about like a RWD version of the 200SX SE I have now...((the one whose alternator died this morning. /: ))

Someone should tell toyota to stop wasing their time with multiple Priuses and focus on this. At this rate, I am feeling this car is going to stay a concept.
