Fuel Consumption

I think everyone is forgetting how long it takes to burn 15 gallons of gas.

Everyone complains about races longer then 10 laps, then talks about mulitiple refueling pitstops...

I agree with the car just dying cuz hey, if your too stupid to pit, then your too stupid to win. But yeah, in order for this to work properly, you'd need a proper gauge.

Oh, and being able to manage how much fuel you carry around/initially start with would be cool. That would add even more strategy. and would this fuel be free?? cuz I think most people would be pissed right off if they had to take there car to "GT Auto" to fill it up before every drive.

hey they've got 5 months to finish the game, we'll have to wait and see what's the final decision on fuel consomption.

There would be heaps of time lost if say in a 3-5 laper at the ring if you just got past the pits and ran out of fuel.

F1 cars have different settings to burn lean or rich, I heard a commentator talking about an "overtaking button" on the wheel, it bypasses the fuel management when pressed to give you maximun power just when you need it.

Champ cars have the ability to change the mixture of the fuel burning in their engines, to my knowledge, however Formula 1 cars do not. The commentator referring to the "overtake" button was actually just speculating that there's a button that raises the computer-imposed enigne rev limiter for a brief stint, say overtaking down a straight, before returning it to normal. In essense almost like pushing a NOS button on a steering wheel really... Let go and you go back to normal racing.

I don't see why everyone feels that a simply fuel light is a bad idea. It's more than you get in a lot of race cars. The light comes on, you know you have 1-2 laps max to get to the pits else... I can see auto-drive taking over and steering you along at 50km/h. We punish people for crashing, why not for disobeying team orders to refuel the damn car? A gauge is unnecessary. We have no idea quite how fuel will be implemented in the final release, so we can but speculate, but I don't see why a gauge would make any difference.

Formula 1 engineers know exactingly how much fuel is consumed per lap, PD could simply configure the light to come on when the driver has 1.5laps of fuel left for each circuit - that's plenty of notice. Even if it comes on on the pit straight, you're still safe.

There could also be different stages of the light, like yellow at a quarter tank, then red at 2 laps left, then flashing red at E. That would suit me just fine.

It would be nice to have more fuel information in the analyzer though (if applicable?), like your average mileage for sectors and whatnot.

...would be...but if it will be in PERCENT it would be better i think because so u can CALCULATE ur pits when u know how many percent one lap takes!! so i would like the FUELstatement in PERCENT so that u can calculate in that way for example:
when u´ve got 10% Fuel and one lap takes never more than 7% u could drive one more lap!! :) MUSH...

Good idea. 👍

Yeah he's a bit of a weird one.

The stage light is the best idea I've heard in terms of catering for a wide range without adding another gauge to the HUD, I don't see why a percentage meter would be any different or more useful, perhaps if you can actively choose the amount of loading for a single lap.

One question fuel consumption raises is free run - we all know tyres don't wear there so do you think fuel will be the same, borderline empty so the car is at it's optimum?

weird??? nono... im not weird!! ijust wanted to say that it would be more exact if there will be a fuel-statement in percent than in colours or in a simple structure which looks like a glass filled with water!!! Mush...rooom...badger...badger! do u know this?;>

Weebl rules. But that's not the point.

I think the flashing indicator is a better idea, but with the percentage ideas, selecting the amount of fuel in a pitstop is more exact but can be more time consuming.
