Finally! At the shops today, saw Series 1 of Futurama on DVD (and managed to cash in the ol' early Xmas present - but that was easy, since the other half's a fan of Futurama as well).
It'd be nice if FOX would bring it out for North America. I guess we had the fewest number of fans or something.
I cheated a bit. I got a VCD collection a couple of weeks ago. I'd forgotten just how hysterically funny the show was. I was never aware of how "geeky" the humor is before now. I guess that's why it was always pre-empted by football. We wouldn't want to mentally challenge the jocks, now would we?

Yeah, I picked that up (I may have watched one or six episodes last night).
There was a beautiful reference to the old arcade game 'Berzerk' in the 'Fear of a Bot Planet' episode - Fry and Leela were discovered and the two guard bots yelled 'stop the humanoid!', 'stop the intruder!', they were the right shape from the game too - hilarious.
Another priceless moment was from the pilot - the ad for Planet Express, and the parcel addressed to H.G.Blob (Horrible Gelatinous Blob).
The thing I love about Futurama is the show's very cruel to its characters - they're all horribly flawed and the show has no qualms in exploiting those flaws for a joke.
Does it kill you the way it kills me when Bender goes through the robot wash - singing "Car Wash"? I've been known to watch that several times in a row.
