We all know Volvos current body styles with the rather weird rear end. But what would you say when you heard that they had the body style of their next generation of cars a decade ago?

This is the Volvo ECC, a design study created in 1992:

Now this is the Volvo S60, released in 2000:

Ever wondered how far in the future these guys plan? :D

Engineers think WAY ahead of everything. I don't really think it is by choice, but it takes a good 5 years to manufacture a good reliable flawless car from paper to metal. Each manufacturer has to stay ahead of the game. If your one step ahead of your competition, your going to be one step ahead in sales when that time comes.

You just now realized that concept cars are usually just previews of cars that will be built within the next few years?

Hey, I'm kinda tired, but I know at least one of you knows what I'm talking baout...

In the mid 80s Nissan was developing an MR sportscar, and if anyone could find the picture of it, compare it to the first Honda NSX. I think one or two of you know which car I'm talking about.

Edit: I can't find the best examples, but here's the closest I could get to the shot I have in a book of mine...

Remember me? NISSAN MID-4 1987

And 4 years later, Honda NSX 1991

Yeah that's what concepts are for, for example if your head rest ever has a crack so your ponytail can fit in comfortably, you can thank the ycc.
