Hello,
I am hoping the bright people in this forum will be able to help. First off I do not want to break the bank as this is a hobby I would love to do more of but never find much time for. So here is the store my g25 shifter pots are going on me (2nd slides into 4th) I have taken apart the shifter to tighten the "bolt/screw". but the problem returns. I currently have a PC, PS3 and an XBOX 360 (XBOX wireless wheel collecting dust)

It would be great to have 1 wheel for all 3 platforms, but at what $$$.
Fanatec looks very tempting but again I am looking at a shifter are the Fanatec ones any good?

I have seen the option of a G27 on ebay, but I would need to mod that. I had a look at Frex but that is out of the question. So is there a solution that I can purchase a new shifter to replace my g25 with a small upgrade in quality somewhere in between a Fanatec setup and a replacement G27 from ebay.

Fanatec shifters I can't comment on, but since Interfaceone came with an adapter so you can use the Thrustmaster TH8 RS with a Fanatec wheel on any platform you can always think about that option for now or in the future. I have this shifter and it's a joy to shift with. In comparison the G25 shifter feels like a toy with no resistance or any form of tactile feedback at all.
The TH8 RS can be used with the G25 but only on PC and only if the game supports multi-USB input devices, as it will never plug into the G25 directly.

Also the Fanatec shifters don't work with a G25 at all I believe, as they only plugin directly into the Fanatec wheels and there aren't any adapters to make them work with a G25 to my knowledge.

So picking a GT2 or CSR wheel will be a good upgrade I'd reckon. You can always pick the CSR shifters for now, unless you decide to spend a few extra of course. That's a choice only you can make.

thanks for the feedback, still on the fence of dropping that kind of cash, on a new wheel. any ohter options that someone might know of to replace my shifter?

Funny you should post this today. I bought a G27 shifter on eBay to replace my G25 shifter. Somebody at iRacing told me they were plug and play compatible. Turns out its not quite the case. BUT, you don't need to do any rewiring since you have a G25 shifter as well.

Here's what I just did to make a hybrid G25/G27:

Disassemble both shifter units. Disconnect all the wires from the circuit board. We're going to reuse the bottom piece of the G27 including everything inside the bottom. Okay, one exception, remove the wire coming out of the G27. Next, with the G25 unit, remove the metal plate that goes under the knob to change shifting modes. Be careful as the sliding mechanism under it will want to pop up and the springs will come out. So hold that thing down and be ready to take that out (its two sliding pieces overlapping, hold them together when you take it out). You'll also need that switch.

Install those three parts (switch, then sliding mechanism, then the plate) into the G27 base. Remove the G25's cord the same as you did for the G27 and swap it into the G27. Finally take the top half of the G25 and put it onto the G27 base after making all the connections.

The result:

G27 base and H-shifter mechanism
G25 sequential mechanism
G25 wiring harness
G25 top w/circuit board.

And you've just made a G27 with sequential functions, for $35.

I got mine from the ebay seller for $30. I offered $20 and he countered $30. Free shipping.

The standard Fanatec shifters get the work done. I've been using my H for about 20 months now problem freee. They are light, some have commented that they feel cheap and have a click noise. I don't believe it's much different than a G25 shifter noise. The CSR Shifter set feels more sturdy, has more weight and substance.

bearair, what exactly is your question? Are you curious about getting a Fanatec wheel or are you wondering which shifters you may be able to to connect to the Fanatec. Maybe I'm tired but I'm not really sure what you need assistance with.

i have a g25 wheel and I am wondering what my options are for a replacement shifter, more and more I am thinking going to a Fanatec wheel would be too big of an investment.

For what its worth, I'm really enjoying my hybridized shifter. $30 will at least let you keep going with what you've got for now and won't really set you back towards an upgrade later.

Ya I hear you, I took my g25 apart again and it is working again for now, I think I will just order a g27 for now and go from there, but will start saving my $$$ now for a cross platform Fanatec.
