G27 Clamp Issue, Anyone Else?

Hi, I'm now on my 4th G27, and 2 of them have been sent back due to clamp issues. I've looked around the internet, and have had no luck finding anyone else with this issue; so maybe someone here can help!

Every single time the clamps have broken, they've all been identical (No pictures, but maybe someone else has had this issue) There are 3 'lines' of plastic in the clamps, and the first and 3rd have been straight across snaps, and the middle has been a diagonal snap.

Every time this happens, I hear a "Pop" then a "Snap." Nothing will happen until I try to tighten/do anything with the wheel. Then, almost as soon as I start to use the wheel, the clamp(s) will just fall to the floor.

Now, I know you're thinking "Well, he has them tightened too much!" That can't be the problem. This last time I made sure the wheel was only clamped down just enough so that it wouldn't slide around. Any looser, and the wheel would no longer stay on the desk.

Hard mounting the wheel is not a option as I have nothing to mount it to :(

Any and all help is appreciated!

Thanks, Drew.

I used to offer a replacement clamp, but no longer do. You can use the clamps from the Black Momo, G25 or DFGT if you have any of those for salvage. They all use the same clamp.

4 G27s, that's committment.

I've had my wheel for ages (also G27), clamping it on and off the whole time, no problems thus far.

I know its annoying, but I have a feeling you're going just a little too far. try to go to what you think will hold it, 90% then mid game when one comes loose, pause it, slid it back into position and tighten her just a wee bit more. repeat until no longer necessary.

Also, I'm clamping into my wooden desk, the clamps have made indentations, so I assume that's reasonably hard. It's possibly the material you're clamping into as well.

Another thing too, is it possible to use the extenders? For no apparent reason, I feel these will absorb some of the strain of the clamp, I've used them the whole time, again, no issues with anything.

Good luck with it all man, might be time to bite the bullet and spend a ~$500 on a T500RS, doubt that'd ever have issues despite any abuse.

If T500's were still on that holiday sale for $300, There'd be one in the mail for me! But, since I'm only 16, everything still has to go through mom and dad. (Believe me, mom is NOT happy about all of this.)

The material point may be valid. The clamps only break while I'm playing iRacing, and clamped to a laminent (Sorry for the spelling) / Metal type desk. When I'm playing GT5, F1 20XX, NFS, and have it clamped to a wooden TV tray, all seems to be well. I may have to suck it up and use the TV tray downstairs too and see if I can make the newest one last until next holiday season. (It'll go nice with the computer Dad's promised me!)

And Derek, Thanks again for the offer, but I'm not sure that mom will let me buy clamps for a wheel that she hates to death! :P (Seriously, she hates the thing!)

EDIT: Derek! You may be the man! Email sent, mom said free is ok ;)

I had the clamps snapping on me too, but no more!

Here's my fix:

1. Open the wheel cover & remove all parts belonging to the clamp system and close the cover (don't break anything there!)

2. Drill holes to two M12 big washers (I used 6mm drill)

3. Put M6x25 screw + nut in the freshly made holes. The screw can be shorter too, I just had these at hand.

4. Use M10x140 to mount the wheel. I used M10 size washers (the bigger series) on top. My desk is 16mm thick, and the screw length is just right so better measure your desk thickness and adjust the screw length accordingly :)

IMPORTANT!! Do NOT overtighten the M10 screw / nut! You can easily crush the plastic cover & everything else with the new CLAMP 2.0 :D

5. ENJOY!
