G27 force feedback has become weak

Hellow fellow wheel enthusiasts,

I've noticed the strength of force feedback on my g27 has significantly decreased over its roughly 1 year lifespan. It must have happened gradually and while i have been aware it got weaker i didn't realise the extent until i used a friends DFGT. I put the FFB on 8 on the DFGT and it was around 2 to 3 times stronger than the g27... which i have on 10! If i was to give a rough estimate i would say the G27 on 10 FFB is equal to the DFGT on 3 or 4 FFB.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing with their own equipment?
Does anyone know of any fix that could be done?

For more insight:
i use it heavily for drifting as well as regular driving so i am quite hard on the wheel sometimes.
it's set on 10 right now, anything lower makes it even weaker still (i have tried playing with this setting to see if it reverts but it has no effect)

To all the optimists that dismiss stories of wrecked wheels from high FFB settings feel free to chime in with feedback :)
 
You might want to check the condition of the USB port on the PS3. Try plugging the G27 into a different USB port. I find that once in awhile the FFB on my G25 feels different and not as strong. What I usually do is to make sure that the connection is tight.

Of course, this may not be the source of your problem but it's worth a try.

BEFORE the g27 was added to GT5 it felt fairly good, but still kinda crappy to me as well, then a friend I drift with told me that if you don't have the PS3 turned off then connect wheel usb and power supply to wheel then turn on the ps3 that it doesn't calibrate right. I tried it and it was really a big difference in the way the g27 handled back then. So that has always been my process to connect the wheel. You may give that a try

Do you have it on power steering or power assist whichever one it's called in the wheel settings? I run that off with simulation and ffb at 9 or 10. feels great. I've felt changes in it every time there is a physics upgrade and it's always been a little bit like this but now I've noticed in the last physics upgrades that suspension tunes REALLY effect how strong the FFB is. If your front tires are skidding with no traction it will make the wheel feel weak


That was all from the optimist side of things. The negative side of things is YES your wheel could also be showing some wear. sadly almost everything wears out over time. Good luck hope it's not the the wheel wearing out.

I made this observation in a thread I posted a few months back. I had been driving with a DFGT for multiple months. I bought a brand new G27 as an upgrade. The DFGT force feedback is much stronger than the G27 in GT5. The DFGT is also louder, and more "notchy."

But I would agree that a DFGT on 3-4 is equal to a G27 on 10. I have even since replaced the G27 with another new one, as the first developed some problems. Same level of FFB.

So I don't know if your G27 is wearing out or not... but the numbers you gave above seem to match up to what I noticed with brand new G27's.
 
I've noticed that the calibration is different if the wheel is plugged in prior to or post powering up the PS3. When the PS3 is already powered on and then you plug the wheel in, the speed at which the wheel spins back to center after left/right lock calibration is pretty slow. If you have the G27 all plugged in and then power up the PS3, the wheel spins back to center after left/right lock calibration MUCH quicker.

It doesn't seem to make the wheel feel any different, but the slow spin return to center, plug in post PS3 power up, it freaks me out. Been plugging in my G27 before powering up my PS3 since I noticed that. Is this just happening to me or is this something other people have seen?
 
Ive found that my G25 & G27 have weak ffb in all racing titles on PS3, although GT5 has a better feel out of them all.

The G25 & G27 have much more ffb strength in rFactor on pc.

Better off going with a quality wheel like the T500RS or a Fanatec.
 
I've tried everything posted above, switched USB slots, plug in before turning on the ps3, i even had it connected with a USB extension cable which i removed but still no change. If anything its seemingly weaker again. i think psychologically at this point i'm going to be forever worrying about it getting weaker or dying as it seems to be just wear and tear.

Which is a bit unfortunate because it is a great wheel and i didn't plan on upgrading until GT6. I will just have to bear with it. Moral of the story go easy on those logitech wheels!
 
It should be under warranty still. Should give costumer service a try see what they say. Its worth a try anyway.

My DFGT ffb feels like it totally off/on with nothing in between which cause me to have to fight the wheel more down the straight in Gt5. (this will cause you to grip the wheel more) It make every bump in the road feels more like a hitting a pothole. This cause my DFGT to heat up more than my G27.

I think PD is slowly turning down the force on the g27.
I've noticed this too. I kept thinking my gearing was wearing out.
From what I've seen, either the wheel's calibration goes out and it's super bad, or the wheel works.
The G27 is the main rival of the t500, so why wouldn't he make it as crap as possible?

Also,
The FFB is Strong as hell until I load GT5. What gives?
I'm now drifting on FFB10 and it feels like a wet diaper.

I agree, I went from a DFP to a G27 and yes the G27 is weaker, but I think its because the FFB progression on a DFP and/or DFGT is just wayyy steeper.

The G27 feels way more realistic and precise.
