G27 gear lever not working on a lot of tracks/cars

I have been using my G27 and going through all the tracks, using a different car for each, in time trial mode and I've noticed on a lot of the tracks/cars the gear lever doesn't work and I have to switch to automatic - I dont know if it's the track or the car that causes the problem, but it happens a lot - anyone else noticed this?

There is a bug with standard cars and custom trannys (premiums don't have this problem), when installed you cant shift or use the clutch. If you can use the stock tranny or the next one down (5-6 speed), they work.

I get the feeling this is not a bug but intended since they list the full custom as a "Dog Clutch" transmission which is paddle shift or auto only.

My thought is either something wrong with the wheel, or you're using a hybrid :p

Seriously though I have no problems at all with either the paddles or H-Gate on mine, unless as mentioned you upgrade the trans then H-Gate doesn't work :banghead:

I really hope that they will correct / provide new feature, where we can at the same time use a custom gearbox AND an H pattern. (I still have an H pattern on my modified gearbox IRL...)

Dog clutch has nothing to do with the use of a clutch, you dont have to use a clutch with them but you can, plus its not consistant with all cars, its definitely a bug.

The whole point of a "Dogbox" is to get rid of friction slip induced by a traditional clutch system...

Wikipedia
A dog clutch is a type of clutch that couples two rotating shafts or other rotating components not by friction but by interference. The two parts of the clutch are designed such that one will push the other, causing both to rotate at the same speed and will never slip.
Dog clutches are used where slip is undesirable and/or the clutch is not used to control torque. Without slippage, dog clutches are not affected by wear in the same way that friction clutches are.
Dog clutches are used inside manual automotive transmissions to lock different gears to the rotating input and output shafts. A synchromesh arrangement ensures smooth engagement by matching the shaft speeds before the dog clutch is allowed to engage.
A good example of a simple dog clutch can be found in a Sturmey-Archer bicycle hub gear, where a sliding cross-shaped clutch is used to lock the driver assembly to different parts of the planetary geartrain.

The fact that you "can" use a clutch does not mean it isn't intentional on PD's part to omit that ability. In the video you'll see that he is advocating the use of the normal clutch to make normal street driving a bit smoother. That isn't a concern when racing.

However, PD should at minimum allow the use of the shifter as that clearly works with these types of transmissions.

I just don't beleive it's a glitch, thats all.

I digress... back to topic.

What about premiums then? They're functioning fine, and they have clutches.

Why would they limit it to one group of cars based on graphics? it looks a lot like an oversight on their part.

No.....it is happening to me with standard, straight from the dealers cars, not modified at all.....although thinking about it, they maybe were race cars that it happened to me with, so therefore have the upgraded gearbox already installed?

Not likely because as @grog pointed out the known issues are only when you perform the upgrade. I've never run tino the H-Gate thing in a car I haven't purposely modified.

I'm not sure what going on with yours. Like I said, perhaps an intermittent wheel problem?

I'm pretty sure its not the wheel as it's quite low mileage - lol. and works fine on other games. I'll look at it more in depth later ie. see if it is only race cars, then see if it is the CAR or the TRACK causing it by mixing and matching working and not working cars on working and not working tracks etc. all cars I use will be 'As Sold' from the dealers, again Im sure it's not my wheel, incidently I have set the paddles as a pass button and horn, so will try them as gear changers to see if at least they work, one car I remember not working was the Lister Storm on Daytona Road Course (fixed weather/time)....but there were several others as well.
Also judging by posts above, are some race cars fitted with a gearbox that doesn't use a standard type gear lever and clutch....so it wouldn't work anyway?

Yeah you nailed it, some race cars use a sequential gearbox and dont use clutches, so your locked out from using the H pattern and clutch.
There are even few street cars like this (SLS AMG) that come with paddle shift from the factory, changing their trannys can add a clutch and H pattern shifter functionality.

Except the sauber c9 isn't allowed to use the H pattern and yet in real life that's exactly what it has. This alone kills my experience.
