G27 issue, for the tech guys!

Hey gtplanet! I am looking for some help, and there seem to be come technically minded people here so I decided to join!

My G27 has an odd issue. It started when I disassembled my shifter to do the resistance mod. Everything seemed to go fine, this wasn't my first rodeo with small electronics. I put it all back together and... nothing. The light on the shifter worked, but that's it. So I took it all back apart and made sure everything was still connected and no wires were pinched but it still didn't work.

At this point I figured that somehow I had damaged the shifter and purchased a replacement from the internet. That one (which was brand new) arrived a few days later... and it didn't work either. Same story, light on the shifter worked but none of the buttons or the shifter itself are recognized by my PC or my PS3.

Now I figure that somehow I shorted something in the wheel when I plugged it back in the first time. How? IDK, but it has been a problem for a while. I was able to get back in the game by purchasing one of the Leo USB adapters for the shifter, but as you know that doesn't work for the PS. I'm really wanting to play GT6 again with my shifter but I'm at a loss for what could be the problem with the wheel/

Any ideas?
 
Huh, that's an odd one. What exactly did you do to the shifter and how old is your G27? I think your first port of call should be Logitech customer support, I don't think I've ever heard a bad word about them so they may help you regardless of your warranty status, but maybe leave out the bit about the mod but do explain that you've tried another shifter. It's always worth trying them before spending loads of time and effort on a different fix. As for what the problem could be, I have no idea - maybe you shorted something which blew something else, maybe the DB9 connector was damaged from the factory and plugging the shifter back in bent a contact, it could be anything.
 
Is wheel calibrating normally? If that's silent too then check power cord, power cord joint(both ends), power supply unit.

I gave Logitech a call right when this initially happened (last fall, I'm only posting about it now because I am home for the summer from college and want to get back into iRacing) and they told me that I was essentially SOL because my warranty was expired and they don't do repairs. And as far as shorts, I feel like that is the most likely answer, but it's weird because the wheel functions perfectly EXCEPT it doesn't seem to recognize the shifter... All of the pins on the connector look good too.

Yes it is calibrating normally which only further adds to my confusion. It works perfectly except the shifter, which is why I bought the G27 in the first place :(

Check pins on wheel end of cord and/or connector under wheel(don't remember which was male, if any of them is bended.

The wheel has the male pins, and they are all fine...

Really weird, maybe you need to open wheel base and check are all connectors well connected inside, if that connector cord is loose from motherboard?

Yea I'll give it a try. Can this board be purchased anywhere in case none of the connections are loose?
 
Might be a tad of a long shot but do you know anyone local to you with a G27, if so you could try your shifter on their wheel and see if the problem is replicated, if so its your shifter, if not then its more than likely your wheel base at fault.
Just bare in mind it might fry their wheel base too come to think of it...

@Jim Smith dunno. G27 is pretty much stone proof, probably just loose connections,.

I know it's not the shifter because it still works perfectly with the USB adapter that I bought from Leo Bodnar. I do have a friend with a G27 though haha.
 
How old is your G27? Logitech have replaced mine twice within the three year warrenty, even with an external handbrake mod.
