Hi to all. I bought my G27 wheel back in November 2010 in anticipation of GT5release. I have only tried to use it in the past few days due to being away with work. I take it from reading this and other forums that the G27 is not supported in the game. Not happy. Now some people say that you use the DFGT settings and all is good. I dont find this at all. It feels about as unrealistic to real driving as you can imagine. I tried GRID the other night and that is great because of all the in built G27 wheel support. It is heaps more fun than GT5. So what is the go with this. Will G27 ever be supported or should I put this G27 on Ebay. Thanks.

I have no issues with my G27 on GT5, yes I have about 6 unused buttons on the wheel and and the gear attachment, but there's nothing to assign those buttons too anyway, unlike on a PC sim.

Yes, you can't directly assign the controls like the DFGT, but that's about the only issue.

What about the driving feels wrong?

It may not be fully supported but it works fine, maybe Grid is more your kind of game.

Its just not realistic. You dont feel like the car is reacting to what you are doing with the wheel. The wheel kicks around and fights you even in a straight line. Cars dont do that. I dont care about the buttons with horns and wipers and stuff I just would like to be able to set the wheel up like you can in GRID. GRID feels realistic once you tweek it a bit. I will probably sell it and downgrade to the DFGT.

Was it October or November that you bought it, only your other post also named G27 newbie was from October 3rd.

Your right I thought it was November. Time flys. I should have also stated that I have just used it with GT5. I know you guys say that all is good with the G27 and GT5 but surely you would like to be able to change FFB and other stuff if you could. Now that the Thrustmaster 500 wheel is now recognised as being official I guess the G27 will fade into the background. I would like to try a DFGT just to see what it feels like because Im not that concerned about a clutch. I might try the G27 on my PC where I can change things up just to see how it feels. I guess Im just a bit let down after all the GT5 hype and was maybe expecting something more.

You can change the FFB, it's in the first part of the menu. Make sure you've also got it set to Simulation and power steering is off.

left view, right view, rear view, handbrake, lights, horn ... there you have all 6 buttons on the wheel used

Do remember with racing wheels is that they DON'T really feel realistic, they are just game controllers that approximate driving. Dial back the FFB (yes, it works) turn off some of the assists (like the power steering assist) and run some practice laps, and you'll be used to it before you know it.

And don't downgrade to the GT, it's not gonna be better than the G27 in any way except you can map your buttons and get the in-race adjustments with the dial... not worth losing the shifter and better pedals in my opinion.

There seems to be some confusion about where you do this, I wouldn't mind finding out for sure either. Do you adjust the settings for Driving Force Pro, or DFGT, or something else?

You adjust that stuff in the general wheel settings. Its the first thing in the menu (all the way to the left)

You are right it is unrealistic since IRL steering wheels are designed so you feel less through the wheel while ffb wheels are designed so you feel more. ffb wheels are still toys and GT5 is still just a game.

If you want more buttons on the g25/G27 wheel (a d-pad, two analog sticks) all you need is a controller and a few rubber bands. It's simple putting a controller at the center of the G27 wheel.
Wrap a few rubber bands on each side around the part you hold with your palms then behind the G27 wheel over to the L/R buttons lip.

Somehow I'm pretty sure that won't work..?

trust me i was skeptical of buying the g27 for gt5 but i have no regrets. works perfectly, like a charm

I'm not too worried, I've read a fair bit and the G27 support sounds awesome. I'm not big on programming buttons, but I prefer mid range and classic cars, and driving them with left foot braking and no clutch isn't cutting it.

Thrustmaster is way too expensive for me, Fanatec might as well be on Mars by the time they charge shipping here, and my experience with the DFGT has been good. So a no brainer really.

heres what i did to my g27 so i wont forget lol

coming from dfp/dfgt, i can tell you that it'll take a lil bit of getting used to...but you'll love it eventually

G27 is 🤬 awesome. You are right that it will take some getting used to, I'm actually driving a car now. It's very clear I've been driving with a major driving aid - automatic clutch - up until now. I'm all over the place, if it was real life I'd have sheared the gears clean by now. I love it!

There is so much more to the game when a clutch is factored in, I can't believe that all this complexity is just sitting there waiting to be discovered.

To address a couple of points made about the 'officially licensed' DFGT vs the 'unsupported' G27:
- I use FF set to 7 and the overall feel is smoother on G27 but approximately the same strength. G27 is VERY quiet compared to DFGT. In fact, it is fair to say G27 outperforms DFGT in every respect while driving.
- I never adjusted the button layout on DFGT, and never used buttons outside the standard playstation nav. If you are the same, the ONLY difference you will notice is the lack of a Playstation button. Seriously. Other than that there is nothing.
- People who have said the clutch is really just an on/off switch, I just don't know what you are talking about. Its a clutch, just like a real clutch. If you let it out too fast in high gear, the engine whines like your going to blow it, but use it gradually and you can control it. How can that possibly be like an on/off switch?

Awesome awesome awesome. Best $390 bucks I've spent in ages, and I'll probably get close to $200 for the DFGT.

One last note to anyone else who makes the switch from DFGT, after a long straight and heading into a hairpin, don't try to stop by slamming your left foot on the clutch. I've been doing that a lot. It doesn't work. :ouch:

I'm glad you like it! Welcome to the club ^^
