Hi im buying a g27 soon and had read you can swap out the factory wheel for a larger real car wheel, i just wanted to know is there only a certain kind of wheel i can use or can i go to the scrap yard and grab any wheel from a car as long as i remove the air bag?

If your making your own wheel adapter than you can use any rim you can get to work. If your plan is using one of the adapters available from various sources in sim racing than you will need a rim that they specify using with their adapter.

I never even thought about making my own adapter, could i just use wood? and if i were to go to the scrap yard and grab one from an old car could you recommend any kind of car i should pick from that would be the easiest to do this with? thanks for the reply :)

http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=g27+wheel+adapter&FORM=HDRSC2 Here are some pics of different G27 adapters. What rim to use from a scrapyard would depend a lot on your skill level and how its mounted. I think a rim from a real car would be very heavy though and probably not be best choice. Those $50 ebay rims will work well for sim racing though and fit those pre made adapters.

Ok thanks for the help man :) that sucks about the wheel weight, i didnt think of that, so i will just try to get a cheap wheel off ebay then and grab a nice dash and instrument cluster from the scrapyard :)

My race Car had a wheel about the same size as the G27 so don't kid yourself that race Car wheels are as big as you think .

Actually now that i have the g27 and have been playing with it for 2 days i have to admit, its not that bad of a wheel :) i was expecting it to be small but this is just perfect, i still wouldnt mind adding a larger wheel for the truck sim games but playing games like grid and PC its perfect for

Just wait :P took me almost years to pull the trigger on it, just waiting on the mini plate.

Is the miniplate a heads up display or another form of button box?
Also is it my fault or is something wrong with 3rd gear? keeps dropping out of gear when in 3rd when im playing grid 2, im wondering if im not pushing the clutch all the way

Having not played grid 2, I am not sure how their clutch mechanics work. Are getting it into gear then falls out when you take your hand off the shifter, or do you grind gears, hit the clutch, reshift and good to go? If the former, you can open the Logitech controller software, bring up the preference that allows you to see button presses and try putting it into 3rd, testing several times trying to mimic different shifting patterns and such, if you see the button press indicator flicker or go out at any point after shifting, then there is an issue with the shifter, if you see nothing, or the issue is the ladder, then chances are it's your shifting behavior.

Great idea! thanks man i will try plugging it in tomorrow and see how it responds, it doesn't happen all the time but i will through it into 3rd with the clutch pressed then release clutch and apply the gas and for about 3 to 4 seconds its fine then with out me taking my foot off the gas or touching the brake or clutch it just drops into neutral and i have to re-shift, but only once every 4 to 5 races, maybes its a grid game thing?

its an adapter from the bolt pattern on the logitech g27 to a regular 70mm 6 bolt (sparco/momo etc) or the 5 bolt pattern of say a grant wheel, and the 6 buttons on the logitech wheel, all in one. For $74.95, it is a good deal, and also keeps a low profile (additional spacers and adapters).

Hey thats pretty cool looking, so would that be used as a button box and adapter for adding a larger wheel?
