The lack of sequential shifiting is the only thing holding me back from going out and buying a G27. I think this could be a breakthrough for many of us if it's real.

Anyone have any idea how this is done, is it reversible, is it even possible, or a fake?

Wouldn't be any point if it's not switchable easily. Unless you buy a second shifter unit and permanently mod it.

Hmm. One could maybe wire the shifter so when it's pressed forward it would basically press L3 (or the outer red button if you're not using a ps3), and when pulled back it would press R3. Then just map L3 and R3 to downshift and upshift, of course some kind of a spring system would need to be used as well. I'm not really sure how the shifter works, nor am I good at explaining things so I hope you understand what i'm trying to say.

It looks authentic, but I wouldn't do that to my G27 neeeeeeeeeever-eveeeeeeeer. What if I damage it? :nervous:. I think you should ask the man that posted the video via Youtube PM.

Try this :)

Anyways, the real reason I posted was to pass along my simple little trick for making the G27 shifter work as a sequential shifter, or as an Ebrake for RBR. All it takes is two decent sized rubber bands and it works as well as any sequential shifter that I have had, and I think even better than the G25 unit that I sampled a while back. It looks a little goofy, but I'm all about function over form any day.

Go buy yourself a bag of assorted rubber bands at the store (.85 cents for a bag of 100 at Rite Aid). It takes a little trial and error to get the tension right for the proper feel, so mess around with different sizes until you get what you want. Take the first one and put it on the shifter post. Push the shifter boot down as far as it will go with the shifter centered in nuetral and it will hold the shifter in the 3rd to 4th gear gate. Take the rubber band and pull it down around the bottom of the shifter and attach it around the part of the bottom mounting clamp screw that sticks out underneath the shifter housing. Put this one on first so it holds the leather boot down and keeps the shifter centered. Then, just string another band around the front button housing of the shifter to pull it forward, map your shift up and shift down for third and fourth gear, and go racin!

I'm using two of the same size bands for my set up, and I must say I am very suprised with how well it works. I tend to use the h pattern more than the sequential deal, but I do like to use whatever setup the car in which I am driving at the time has. This only takes a few seconds to switch back and forth, and for me, works as well as anything I have tried. Some may have tried this already, but I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so I thought I would pass it along in hopes that it may help some people with what has been about the only complaint with this phenominal wheel. Give it a try and see what you think.

Sorry Shoki, I don't have a digital camera at the moment. I'll see if I can borrow one sometime. Really is quite simple though. Basicaly, just have a band pulling equally in each direction. The good part of the G27 shifter is that the detents are pretty strong. This, coupled with the little bushing on the shifter boot that limits the travel and keeps the lever in the center gate when pushed the whole way down, provide everything you need to make a pretty good sequential shifter. It makes me wonder if Logitec didn't intentionally design it with this idea in mind seeing how well it works.
The key is to put the band pulling aft on first. This is because it is also pulling down on the shifter boot/bushing since you have to wrap it down around the bottom of the shifter to find something to hook it on. This is what limits the travel enough to keep it from engaging into the 3rd and 4th gear detents, thus returning it to the center position after each shift. It does take some fairly heavy rubber bands to get enough tension to hold it in the center position. This is why I say to get an assortment so you can play around with tension to get the feel you desire. It's not perfect, and may not be suitable for everybody out there, but it does get the job done. The best part is you still have a very good H Pattern shifter by simply pulling off the rubber bands and pulling the shifter boot back up on the shift lever.

The only issue that I have is the band that goes forward around the button housing does kind of interfere with the use of the buttons and D pad on the panel. You just have to take a little extra care when reaching for a button fast so you don't catch the band with your finger and pull a down (or up) shift by mistake. I can live with it though.

As I also mentioned, I use the same setup in Richard Burns Rally. I map 4th gear as the E brake and use the paddles on the wheel to shift. Works great!

i have modded G27 shifter for sequential shifting and details are on racepartment, tech discussion. G27 shifter sequential shift mod jgmz1

i have modded my G27 shifter for sequential shifting for under 10 USD. you can EASILY
switch from gated to sequential in under 5 seconds. go to RACEDEPARTMENT.COM and
look up G27 shifter mod. i have posted specifics on how to and a picture.
