Anyways, the real reason I posted was to pass along my simple little trick for making the G27 shifter work as a sequential shifter, or as an Ebrake for RBR. All it takes is two decent sized rubber bands and it works as well as any sequential shifter that I have had, and I think even better than the G25 unit that I sampled a while back. It looks a little goofy, but I'm all about function over form any day.
Go buy yourself a bag of assorted rubber bands at the store (.85 cents for a bag of 100 at Rite Aid). It takes a little trial and error to get the tension right for the proper feel, so mess around with different sizes until you get what you want. Take the first one and put it on the shifter post. Push the shifter boot down as far as it will go with the shifter centered in nuetral and it will hold the shifter in the 3rd to 4th gear gate. Take the rubber band and pull it down around the bottom of the shifter and attach it around the part of the bottom mounting clamp screw that sticks out underneath the shifter housing. Put this one on first so it holds the leather boot down and keeps the shifter centered. Then, just string another band around the front button housing of the shifter to pull it forward, map your shift up and shift down for third and fourth gear, and go racin!
I'm using two of the same size bands for my set up, and I must say I am very suprised with how well it works. I tend to use the h pattern more than the sequential deal, but I do like to use whatever setup the car in which I am driving at the time has. This only takes a few seconds to switch back and forth, and for me, works as well as anything I have tried. Some may have tried this already, but I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so I thought I would pass it along in hopes that it may help some people with what has been about the only complaint with this phenominal wheel. Give it a try and see what you think.
