Game Backup - A definitive guide please

Yesterday I completed the Indy 500 and was awarded the brilliant Jaguar XJ13 Race Car '66 and it got me thinking abot how totally gutted I would be to lose my game save data. I have amassed a collection of 280 unique cars so far (not the biggest in the world) but ones like the FGT, C9, Suzuki Pikes Peak etc. took ages to grind/save for, all the more harder when I am out at work 12 hours a day with a missus who likes a spot of TV hogging now and then.

So - my question is, can somebody post an A-Z guide on how to back up the data in GT5 that refers to car collections, tuning etc. I have seen the guides already out there but I want one covering
1) the conditions on which the back up works (something to do with Fat32??) 2) how to create the back up (with any special requirements) step by step 3) how to then use said back up if the need calls step by step and
4) confirmation from someone that they have done this.

I signed up just to ask this, it took me a while to get all the GT4 cars and I do not want to have to start again.

Slogging now for the fancy Alfa but it'll take some time. Would not dupe, which I have read as advice on proceeding, because it'll be a while before GT6 and I would rather get the whole collection myself.

You need just a plain memory stick (or 2, I'm always making copies on 2 sticks).

In the XMB, just go to your "game" menu and select "game saves" or something to that effect. There you can just select your GT5 savegame file (it's 700-800KB, depending on your progress through the game) and then "copy", select your memory stick and that's it.

If you need to restore, in the same menu you can browse to your memory stick and it will show you what's on it, then just select "copy" and it will restore the save back to your PS3.

There are many threads around here on this subject. You could look for them and make your own guide. It's as simple as what shadster said.

Most simple way to back up your files from your ps3 to a usb drive:

1 - Insert USB (formatted to FAT32)
2 - Go to your GT5 disc (on the XMB)
3 - Go up 3 spots (saved data)
4 - Go into this
5 - Select your GT5 save
6 - Press triangle
7 - Copy to USB
8 - Done.

I've even pluged my phone Into the PS3 via USB to keep a copy safe on there.

So I saved my GT5 game to a flash drive, then I thought it would be a good idea to save it onto my computer as well, then if I need to I can just transfer it back to the flash drive then load it onto my PS3. Will this work? Since the PS3 HDD is the same as a PC, I figured it's just like any other data file but a confirmation would be nice. Thx

That worked for me, but you might want to test it out first - if you have two USB sticks, save the file to both. Then use one as a test mule - copy it onto your computer, wipe the USB, then restore from the computer, finally trying it back on the PS3. If, for some reason, that doesn't work, you still have it on another USB stick.

Do I have to delete my save data from the PS3 HDD before it will allow me to load it from the USB? Seems like a dumb question because you probably can't have 2 GT5 games saves on one PS3. But I can be dumb sometimes. Thanks for not flaming. :)
