I tried my best to word the title correctly, but its hard to explain. Yesterday, I booted up my ps3. Instead of it going to the XMB like its suppose to, a menu came up, stating that the hdd needs to be 'rebuilt'. So I hit ok, as it was the only option, and then hopped to my computer to google what this procedure meant. I have an 80gig ps3 that remained relativly full, having just 3 or 4 gigs availible at any given time. It turns out, that this hdd rebuild feature is like a system defrag for the ps3. The comments online said everything will be ok, its not reformatting the hdd etc. Just a defrag. But...a few people said it corrupted their game saves and installs. Ok, so the procedure was complete. I check that what I had was still on my hdd, my music, my installs, save games etc. I get into GT5, hoping my save games have not gotten corrupted. My last car was a Dodge Challenger08 , I go to practice on High Speed Ring to make sure everything is fine. I notice.. No music is playing in game. I press start, and the game freezes. :/ wOW, I had such a sinking feeling. My game is corrupted, I thought. I press start again, the game starts working again! I was so puzzled. When I hit start, it froze, but it was really on 'pause'. Except, NOTHING was on the screen. No hud, and those options to quit, try again, quick options were not there. It looked like it kept getting frozen. The only way to leave the track, was to hold the PS button and quit the whole game to the XMB. Well, scared my hdd was corrupt, save games corrupt. I went back into my game and decided to buy my dream cars and shift it to my other profile whiched worked fine. I bought the Italia, Scuderia, ACR etc. Blew a million credits. Then it hit me. PLAYLISTS! In the process of the hdd rebuilding, playlists get deleted. A quick google revealed this. ITS NOT mentioned anywhere. The game kept trying to read music from my playlists, even though the music on the console was fine, the playlists got deleted. So I went to options, changed Race BGM to the games on. Went back to a track with my newly acquired Italia and everything worked fine :). So there you go, when playlists get deleted, the game appears corrupted. Was a hectic day, I just got my S licence the day before and was afraid I had to start all over again lol. Atleast, I stopped procrastinating and ordered a 500gb hdd while the hdd rebuild was taking place. Goodbye 80gig. Thanks for reading. Wanted to let you know so it doesnt happen to you guys, and you panic, like me thinking your save games corrupted. Still, no warning in game of what happens if playlists get deleted? Crazy.

I coulda told you that ;)

By the way, the game also freezes randomly when it tries to play MP3s it doesn't like... there's nothing particularly wrong with them, they're not corrupt or the wrong frequency, it just gets picky for some unknown reason.

TL;DR version:
------
-Defrag'd ps3 ("rebuilt" hard drive)
-GT5 seemed corrupted, no music and freezing
-Defrag removed the music playlists that GT5 was using, this caused the problems
-All is well after replacing the playlists
