Ok so Gran Turismo is suppose to be the game where if you have a wheel, the driving dynamics of cars are pretty much the same as they are in real life.

I work alot with high end supercars and alot of sports cars. I must say though it feels like the supercars have just been totally ignored. The Audi R8 both V8 & V10 are very exciting cars to drive but in GT5 they are so boring with the occasional catastrophic oversteer!

A couple of Ferrari's are the same and it's just tragic! The 599 GTB Fiorano is the closest car to the real thing in the Ferrari range! Not having drove an Enzo i wouldnt know lol. the F430's are just not as crazy and unforgiving aswell and this is the story with most RWD cars apart from the Corvettes!

The Lamborghini Gallardo is just the exact same and is very slippery but not in an oversteering way. it just has no grip what so ever but in Real Life is an absolutely epic car to drive!..The list goes on!

The 1 car they have got right is the GTR. Both normal car and SpecV are just spot on! But that comes as no suprise!

The Skyline lot seems the same but there is something missing!

Before people say why can't i just get on with the game let me just say..
I am NOT complaining about the game but i do have a thing for the fact that the cars people are more likely to drive are nothing compared ot real life and they are said be similar! Bear in mind these cars are all totally stock!

Anyone have any similar issues with this game?

As i said. The cars i use are totally stock so i use what gran turismo recommend. I won't change anything on the car what so ever unless i want to tune it but im obviously not gonna compare a suped up 900bhp R8 to a normal Real life 1

Use comfort tyres next time, need time to get use to it but you will get closer to life feeling..

I ask you : when you drive these supercars IRL, you drive fast as in the game? Think about it. The 430 Scuderia is a great car in the game, it doesn't have too much oversteer as you say in my opinion, rather is quite easy to drive compared to other cars...

I tuned f430 to novitec rosso edition to 717hp.. in my case its 660hp and 1270kg.. try it on comfort soft.. its just asking for respect..

Honestly, it's hard for me to say without being able to compare them, apples to apples, so to speak. If I knew, for example, in real life on OEM tires the F430 can go around Aremberg on the Nurburgring at XXX kph, and on Sport Hards in GT5, a F430 can also go around Aremberg at XXX kph, then I could compare the two.

Honestly though, without knowing which tires are equivalent of stock (regardless of what you start with), what the lateral grip is (and of course that traction/stability control is off or on for both) I don't really know how you can tell.

I think (obviously) people overdrive cars more easily in GT5 than in real life which will definitely create more oversteer situations.

i didnt say the F430 had oversteer. i said it isnt as unforgiving!

and i have pushed these cars quite hard when driven yes!

Comfort hard tyres are epically lacking in grip though and even a tickle of throttle you lose grip. i know the issue with the tyres is a big thing but no-one apart from PD can say these are the tyres you should use so i just use the stock tyres. if they are sports soft i ussually drop to sports hard for supercars!

Ofcourse the issue of speed is HUGE in GT5. Taking an F430 through a turn at 100MPH which no car could ever do in some cases!. but lap times are close as dammit on the nurburgring!

Oh and and i cant say i overdrive these cars.. i have a feel for these cars in real life so i know what is real in the terms of performance and i try not to hammer it as much as i would when just normally playing GT5

It's hard to tell for me, the closest in game car I can compare to is the latest Subaru Impreza WRX, but in RL I've only got a regular Impreza. From what I can tell it feels pretty similar (even though the cars are pretty different), but to be honest, it's not often I take my RL car to the limits of traction... I mean, especially with a supercar, I'm not sure I'd trust anyone to say they know what it feels like to drive it (even if they've driven one in real life), since in game we're likely to do things that would be seriously irresponsible, or at least take massive balls to do in real life. So while I may think that in real life a stock gallardo doesn't oversteer under braking like it does in GT5, even if I got to drive one on a track I doubt I'd be able to convince myself to plow through that long right-hander at the beginning of Rome at around 200km/h to find out...

Know what I'm saying?

Maybe this is the problem. Most supercars have higher grip tyres than normal cars. For example the Aston Martin DBS (I know it's not in the game but bare with me) runs on tyres specially made for it by Pirreli. For normal cars use Sports Hard, Mid range cars (Imprezas, Evos etc) Sports Medium, and for Supercars use Sports Softs.

I'm not so lucky to have the possibility to drive these cars IRL, but I don't think that if I could drive them I'll push them like I do in GT5... I take care of my life  Anyway, do you drive them for job? Just curious :)

I think that Sport Hard are the closest to the real life supercar's tires. With sport soft I can go under 7 minutes with a 458 Italia, pretty unrealistic considering that IRL the best for that car is a 7:25 if I remember right. With Sport Hard I can do a 7:18, so I think that them are the closest to IRL tires. And this is valid also for other supercars that I tried on the 'ring.

totally agree but working for a company that allows some of its workers such as myself to test these cars once worked on and i have the choice to push them to pretty much close to the limits. This is on an open area of tarmac which is, well not very threatening but you just brought up the issue of the whole speed in game compared to speed in life again!

You are possibly right, but in GT you can push a lot harder than real life, so the car may be handing poor but on the Nurburgring you can make up the difference.

You're lucky man =) Tell us if you have the possibility to drive the new Lamborghini Aventador, it must be a rocket

One thing : When you drove the F430 and the other Ferrari's, were you using F-TRAC or other driving assists? I ask this because I know Ferrari puts a lot of electronic aides on their car, and if you don't turn them off, they helps you a lot in the driving.

I am a mechanic for a company that deal with Leasing supercars for weekends etc but i am also contracted to work for a company who provide repairs for these high end cars and do custom car builds! So i know a fair bit about these cars and how they drive :) Thanks for asking

as for the tyres i use comment, i only change them when the car just feels ridiculous!

All cars i try out i use with and without driving aids! but i am referring to these cars without any driving aids on! Like i said the F430 when pushed is so unforgiving and you need to have a real nack to kick it right out and hold it! But at the same is an absolutely terrific car to drive! Driving aids or not!

Nurburgring times are not a good example.

In real life the drivers are not pushing really hard, they have to think about safety (These tests are different from racing). In GT you can push over the top hard, you can drive over the curbs to maximise speed and racing lines without consiquence, you can even run wide onto the grass at times and gain time. In the game you're pushing at what is probably 10-20% harder than they would in real life, while being able to use more of the track without destroying your car.

Some cars on Sports hards are just like wild flailing beasts, that aren't like that in real life. The GT-R is a prime example of a well modelled car because it has plenty of grip on the sports hards without being over the top fast, but for example the Ferrari F40 or the modern Lamborghinis are absolutely mental on those same tyres. But then i guess its comparing apples to oranges, the GT-R being a front engined 4WD.

That said i do think GT does a fairly decent job of it. I was happy to find that the Mclaren F1 in game drives in a way that looks like it does in the videos, the way people have described it is brought across well into the game, and the general vibe of the car is fantasticly close.. However.... the thing in the game is just too fast, it is the fastest road/street production car in the game around most tracks, when it just wasnt that good in real life, it shouldn't be thrashing Enzo's or 458's or the MP4-12c, but it does ^^, it crushes them into the ground.

I thought exactly the same about the Gallardo. Having driven a real one on the track and loved it to death, I bought in in GT and it SUUUUUCCCKKS, nothing like the real thing.

You just have to take things for what they are I guess, some cars are well modelled others not so much.

Disappointing though it may be.

Even on racing softs it's just not realistic. I've posted it many times but there are turns in the game that I can't do with racing softs on the superveloce but I can do a similar turn at same speed in real life in my toyota matrix?!?!?!

I just attribute it to needing to make the game somewhat of a challenge.

So, with all that being said, it's still a fun GAME!!

Anyone who's ever been in a seriously fast car (not a hopped up GTI or Vtec thing) will tell you that being in the car is far more involving than you can ever imagine. The game is great, but it's no substitute for the real thing.

Then there's the trophy for lapping the 'Ring in the GTR... 7'29"XXX, right? Gimme a break. On street tires? Not likely. And, without the "feel" of the car, the road, the tires, etc etc, it's almost impossible in GT5 (without cheating).

For those of you who've completed this challenge...I truly commend you!!!

I've driven a couple of the supercars (Ferrari's etc) that are in the game, but never at the speeds the game offers, and let me tell you, I'd take 50mph in a 458 in real life vs 200mph in a 458 in GT5 any day....

Ok, i will repeat again.. use comfort soft for better feel, think about it that this is a game and you will need to reduce your grip if you want something closer to life..

On comfort it cant get any closer and trust me as a driver my self, this is a 95% simulator.. dont forget to turn damage on..

The challenge in GT5 for the GT-R record isn't almost impossible, its annoying (because the track is so long and 1 mistake can = fail), but its not really that hard. Theres a guy in the GT-R record thread claiming a 7:11. thats 19 seconds faster than he needs to be.

Nothing personal, but if this is truly the case, you're not doing something right. Are you trying to keep the throttle at 100% during cornering or something?

This is true of any car (in real life). There's only so much you can convey through little servo motors and a fixed camera. The game is fun, but driving in real life is way better 👍

I truly agree that yes this is a game..

even when i get the chance to sit in a ferrari F430 or lamborghini Murcielago or Gallardo i just think WOW when i turn the key.. obviously GT5 will NEVER compare to the real thing but my point is Polophony Digital recommend it as being very close to a real driving experience.

I have no qualms with Gran Turismo 5 as i love the game and think it is 1 of the best racing games ever but i dont like the fact they are advertising it as something it isnt :/

as for the GTR challenge i done 7:23.xxx on a Dualshock 3 Pad so it really isn't hard. The dynamics once again relating to track length etc is off therefor such times, yes are possible
