First time getting really in a GT series.

Whats the basic progression? It seems I can never find cars that I need to enter the races in A-Spec and if I were to buy all of them Id run out of money.

Ive complete the majority of the special events with at least a silver rating and now im completing my ic license and getting silver with the controller on almost my first try every time.

Any guides as to how to basically progress through a GT game?

Thanks in advance!

Before entering an A-Spec race you can check the examples of what you can expect as competition. You can get some inspiration there as what to use/buy. Also look at other specs for races (brand, country, era) before buying something. You should be able to easily find what you need.

Welcome dude!

Progression... well you will find that by winning each race (gold) within an event you are gifted a reward car. Typically these reward cars can be used to complete other events, saving you the purchase cost of the vehicle. These reward cars might not be the best performing option but they are free and will help to improve your abilities by challenging you.

Its kinda weird in parts cus i did the mini race (pro i believe?) and had to buy one just for this seeing as i never had any given as prize cars prior.

Now for winning the racw what do you think i was given??...........yep you guessed it a new mini.

Its not a car i will need again, and the only reason i can comprehend it is if it was a premier car but it wasnt.

Kinda weird if you ask me.

Thanks guys. Im level 16 in A-spec. Ive completed all the licenses - I can pretty much get silver on first or second try, I have golded the available kart and nascar challenges. I got silver on the AMG ones.

Now, for the rally should I buy a rally car?

As for game progression - I can see what you mean. I won a Mazda roadster and Truck for their respective races.

I have 800000 in cash. The only cars I have bought are a Supra 3000gt, Mini (didnt need it) and my first one a honda. Oh yea and a mazda tuned almost to the max.

There are some available races that have no limitation - what would be a good car to get a use for those?

Im in love with the LFA - good or bad idea?

Thanks again guys! Its funny, Im 21 and I love driving in real life - I never for once though about taking a racing SIM seriously. I beat the new NFS HP in one day and was less than impressed. For an arcade racer its hard to beat but realism is seriously lacking.

Now I just need to decide if I want to get a G27 for DFGT. I do not know how to drive a manual car so I cant decide.

Another thing to remember is once you get past the amateur level races the award money starts to increase dramatically which makes purchasing vehicles and upgrades much easier.

Just try to gold as much as you can and utilize the free cars to save money.

The most cost effective vehicle upgrades you can invest in are going to be: tires, weight reduction - stage 1, ECU tuning, racing air filter, and the high-flow catalytic converter eliminator thingy.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I will try and help you out.

I'm a GT newb and have found the progression through GT5 to be strange at best.

I'm now a level 18 driver, I didn't get the chance to do half the A-spec beginner and amateur events, because they were either too easy, or the cars were not available/too expensive.

So, I'm now stuck with a few Pro events, and if I manage to get any better and do the harder events, half the game will be useless and incomplete.

I agree with this completely. I get at least these upgrades on whatever cars I want to race. It great how just these cheap upgrades can really improve the car and can even be all it takes to change from finishing 5th to finishing 1st in the lower and mid level races. :) if you don't plan on ever using the car again, these upgrades are great because they're all very cheap. Now, a car you really enjoy driving and plan to use more, you can of course, put more money into and tune even further. :)

Don't forget the cheap oil change!

For the races you need specific cars for, be sure to check the used car dealer after every race you do. They change out rapidly. :) if the car you need isn't there yet, re-run another race you can do. You'll earn more credits in the meantime. Though I do admit, it can sometimes take a while to find the cars you need even doing it that way. I didn't get to do the British classics until I beat half the Pro series. >.<

The Seb Loeb special event wins you a rally car, but for the beginner rally event I just stuck dirt & snow cars on something (ie just an average car) within the bhp limit.

Sometimes trial and error is the best way, enter the event and find out. I always try to avoid spending money, especially early in the game. A lot of upgrades I read about on here are totally unneccesary for the win and sometimes buying a new/used car is cheaper than buying upgrades.

Back to the Rally Special events; there are lots of credits and XP available in those.

^ As above, nearly. I got to lvl 18 without touching GT Rally or A-spec. Just do licenses and special events until you get to Seb Loeb challenge, win a C3, C4 and C4 WRC. Use C4 (tune a bit with tyres) for beginner, C4 WRC for both of the next 2. When done you'll have lots of cars from special events, lots of xp done, lots of licenses done and no money spent. Best way to avoid spending money while progressing

I have played using only free cars that I've won through A-spec events, license tests, and special events for the most part. Its really nice to win a race with a car you won for free. There were a few races I had to mod my car a bit like the Lightweight K-cup and the Vitz event. I did end up buying a car for the rally event, but it was a car I wanted just for the fact that I thought it was an awesome looking car. Most of the money I've won are to buy cars from the used lot and are generally pretty useless but are fun to own. ie. rally cars. lol
