Ok, Im sure someone is going to rant and flame about how I should use a wheel instead or just deal with the analog sticks instead, but here is my problem.

The first problem is that I bought the game used at blockbuster, so I dont have a manual, it might be answered in there.

The real problem is that when im feeling lazy i dont want to use the right analog for gas and brakes but use the buttons instead. this was fine and dandy in GT1 when I played that, but in GT4 pressing the brake button slams on the brakes and the car skids, because it registers as pushing the brakes all the way down like if I pulled back all the way on the analog stick. In GT1 pressing the brake button slowed the car, but only as fast as it could without skidding, if you wanted to skid you just used the Ebrake button instead. kind of like a brake autopilot or ABS thing since buttons have no sensitivity to them, just on and off which doesnt work for brakes.

So how do I fix this? im sure its easy enough and if I had the manual id know, but I dont and its bothering me.

The buttons are pressure-sensitve as always. I've never had problems in GT4 with parital braking and gas. Maybe your controller is worn out.

what kind of controller do you use a third party? if you are using that one then its not very wise touse such controllers

The buttons on the official Sony DualShock 2 - and many 3rd party controllers too - ARE pressure sensitive for all functions.

So you either have:
1. A non-pressure-sensitive third party controller.
2. A broken brake button.
3. A really fat thumb.

whoops, forgot about pressure sensitive buttons, I was using a dualshock 1 from my PS1 since I liked the joysticks on it better since the springs in them are really loose, that would explain the problem. The dualshock 2 works just fine for the brakes. Ill just have to use it a lot to wear out the sticks adequately.

The DS1 works for GT4? I thought the game just refused to let you use it, for the sole purpose of it not having pressure-sensitive buttons?

No, you can use just about any Playstation controller with GT4 as long as it has Dual Shock. :)

Another option that I have found to work fairly well (for me) is to re-map the R1 button as the brake, and use the joystick for the accelerator.

i preffer to use the R1 button as brake as this means i no hasle pushing stick back and forth to acclerate and you can brake and accelerate at the same time

I would never do such a thing I own a dfp but I use ds2, when I play the game it(ds2) saves my mind a bit... lol no seriously practice is everything in this and all GT games.👍
