Whether because you simply missed the boat, or do to circumstances outside of your control, this thread is for that. Starting it off;

Vertexer - Taito - ARCADE

A game I really just found out about, that I desperately want to play. It looks like F-Zero, which I adore. It was never ported to any home consoles, and even when it was released (only in Japan) in the Arcades, it was in limited numbers. My hope to finally play it is in Emulation, but even then no one has dumped it as the board is rare and expensive. Apparently a few collectors are sitting on them, and want top dollar for them. And on top of that, there's only 1 video (split in two parts) on the entire interwebz of the game. :(

Solar Assault - Konami - ARCADE

Now, this is something that I will end up being able to play eventually, via emulation. It's still buggy as far as I'm told, but it is possible to do a full rum through via hacks. Loosely connected to one of my favorite franchises or all time, Gradius. So Gradius plus Star Fox/Panzer Dragoon? Sold.

Metal Wolf Chaos - FROM SOFTWARE - XBOX

I love mecha. I love Armored Core, and FROM SOFTWARE titles. And this, well just watch the vid. Over the top and crazy, and sadly exclusive to Japan, which is odd considering it's pretty much in full English, and there's a hidden demo in those disc that used to come with OXM Magazine. Eventually I'll mod my old Xbox and give this one a go.

X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter is the only one that comes to mind. I played X-Wing on our old Macintosh Performa but XWvTF never came out on Mac, and there was never a single PC in my family until I built one in 2011. I've recently tried TIE Fighter but it hasn't aged well enough for me to still be interested, unfortunately.

When I was younger I always wanted to play Star Wars: Galaxies too, but now that TOR is out I really don't care any more.

Also I guess EVE Online; it sounds like the kind of game I'd love but I'm honestly terrified of the scale of it and the fact that it would likely dominate my life and bank account. I'm quite happy with X3 (and soon X Rebirth) for that sort of thing.

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes

Play the original instead. It's far better.

As for me, there are plenty of games I wanted to play but never got to. When I was a kid, I wanted an nes or SNES but we got an amiga instead. I was mostly interested in Mario and Zelda. Of course, I could get them now but I can't be bothered. It would be tricky to get one to work with modern tv's. Part of me hopes that Nintendo will strike a deal with Sony and release the classic games on playstation but we all know that there's a better chance of pigs flying.

I have played the original game(PS1,PSP,DC). Some people say, in Twin Snakes, the experience is better.

They're wrong, the new controls make it far too easy and there was nothing wrong with the original controls anyway.

Soul Calibur I - Arcade/Dreamcast/X360

That's a shame, Soul Calibur is still my most favourite fighting game ever. The legend will certainly never die. Was it really on the 360? Xbox, surely?

This plus the fact that Snake suddenly acquired the powers of Neo. The only good thing about that game was the fact that I sold it for more money than I paid for it.

And I actually wanted to like it. I bought a GameCube just to play it. Took a day off work too. Not a patch on the original.

Great idea for a thread!

I'm gonna go with the original Project Gotham Racing for XBox. I've never owned an XBox and now they're not backwards compatible so I suppose I'll never get round to it.

The 360S is definitely backwards compatible. It can play PGR1 and it runs like a charm, but it does slow down in places.

I could devote an entire thread (or even a blog post) on this topic. I'll name a few here. These are games I actually want to own... which is a bit different from what this initial post is supposed to be about.

* NASCAR Racing 2002 Edition or NASCAR Racing 2003 Edition
As a veteran of the Sierra/Papyrus NASCAR Racing games, many have seen these two titles as the finest NASCAR Racing titles for the PC. Perhaps it is RACECAR who has influenced me a lot to get this game. I've never played it but would love to one day own either of these games. Maybe NR2003.

* RACE 07
The reason why I bought a RAM module was to play RACE 07... which used to be at even Wal-Mart stores. Trouble is, it had long no longer been sold in physical stores. So this is another title I'd love to play after so long.

Now to take you back.

* Kid Icarus
It's a game I wouldn't mind owning and playing on my NES.

* Mario Paint
Not technically a "game," but very much something very fun and creative for those bestowed with a Super Nintendo.

* Ferrari F355 Challenge (PlayStation 2 version)
I always wanted to own this game. Too bad I never did, though.

* Formula 1 Championship Edition
This was one of the first PlayStation 3 titles. Anyone who knows me knows that I've had a poor history with F1 games. I think I've played the demo to this at a PS3 kiosk once.

* Virtua Fighter 5
I have "Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown," but I'm talking about the very first one. I loved "Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution" on the PS2.

* (almost any Forza Motorsport besides FM1)
My only Forza experience is FM1, the FM1 demo, the FM2 demo, the FM4 demo, and the Forza Horizon demo. I don't even own any XBOX. But surely, I'd want to spend more time with Forza.

* (the Project Gotham Racing series)
I surely would enjoy playing these games had I an XBOX or an XBOX 360.

Again- there are among MANY games I'd want to play.

Forza motorsport 4.
I would love to play this game with his awesome sounds and car selection but I haven't got a Xbox and I find it very complicated to find out what stuff I need to start my Xbox experience.
Besides that : I have a DFGT and a PS3 wich I just cant make disapeare in an instant :(

Full throttle and Grim Fandango. I never had a good enough pc, then I decided to buy a playstation.

Grim Fandango! Good call, I always wanted (and still do want) to try that but I don't think it's particularly feasible now. Full Throttle was excellent, I really hope LucasArts and GOG strike a deal at some point, I'd give them a considerable amount of money to play all their old SCUMM games, the X-Wing and TIE Fighter series, so on and so forth.

Another one I thought of: Enthusia.

Also, I'm not sure what the legality (both actual law and AUP) of emulators is - is it really ok to emulate a console, even if you own it and the game in question? - but they'd help out a whole load of people in this thread... Just saying.

From a purely legal, black and white perspective, no it is not ok to emulate a console that you don't have a copy of the bios for (ie, you own the actual console). However, it's very unlikely that Sony are going to come beating down your door just because you're playing a 10 year old game.

One thing that does stand in the way of making it work is the notorious unreliability of the emulators, sometimes it is very difficult to get the game to work perfectly (I'm having particular problems with GT4).

Well for me it was this PC game called Comandos.

Commandos--Behind-Enemy-Lines_5.jpg

It has this amazing graphic design levels, but the thing that turns me off is controlling with mouse. This is game type point and click like Diablo which i never liked. That's why Diablo 2 is the second game i wanted to play and then Fallout and Fallout 2. Such a shame.

-The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

-Simcity 2000 (I don't know why, I have Simcity 4 but I've always wanted to play 2000 for some reason)

-The first two Grand Theft Autos

-CoD 2 : Big Red One (or something like that)

There's plenty more. These are the only ones I can remember wanting to play right off, however.

The Devil may Cry series.

One of these days I'll get to it. One of these days..

Get NR2003. One of the greatest games ever even still to this day. It had some of the best AI and always loved racing them. Might aswell get iRacing though but if you are looking for offline fun then go with NR03.

As for F1:CE I recommend that too, had some of the best races on a PS3 in that game

Dead Space series, specially part 1

Enthusia

Jak & Daxter, might get the HD collection soon

God Of War, never touched it although my brother is a massive fan

So many memories... As I'm at work, I cannot post links to videos, but:

1. SEGA GT. The arcade one, not the Dreamcast game that had GT's aspirations. It was a simple arcade racer with a few cars: Porsche 911, Dodge Viper, Ferrari (don't remember the model) and McLaren F1. It was gorgeous to look at. I wonder why SEGA never released it at any console, not even for the Dreamcast, which could handle it.

2. Descent 3. Never had a good enough PC for it. I have fond memories of the first two games in the series, but never played the third one. And it looked really slick. It was something new at the FPS genre, and would really benefit of today's online capacities with 24+ players and objective-driven matches.

3. Rez, for PS2. Drooled over it, but never saw a copy anywhere. And it's not on PSN. And I don't have an Xbox. Boomer.

4. Guardian Heroes. Played it very few times, but never found a copy to buy (Yes, I still have a Sega Saturn and a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga yay!). Again, it's not on PSN.

5. Star Fox 64. Had the original Star Fox on the Snes, but never has a N64. Drooled over this game in magazines. I'm really considering a 3DS because of this, Zelda and Mario.

Well, those are the ones I can remember for now. But I'm sure there are many more.

I've beaten the Easy route of Star Fox 64 and only made it to the final battle on the Hard route a few times. Star Fox 64 was a great game.

Besides this, thanks for the suggestions regarding NASCAR Racing 2003 Edition. I'll look into NR2003.

Good news!

I don't get how nowdays developers completely forgot about stuff like Descent and arcade racers like Rollcage. They have tecnnology today but they lack good ideas. Not to mention Dino Crisis, how cool it was.

Games I always wanted to play:
Richard Burns Rally. It's about 6 years I keep telling myself "one of these days I must install it", 6 years and counting.
Gran Prix 4. I've played it long time ago with a keyboard so I don't know how it is with a wheel. Damn rFactor, damn mods, damn tweaking. :)

Oh and definitely yes, go buy F1:CE it is worth it.
I'm not playing very much because 1 I'm lazy, 2 rFactor has way too many mods, 3 work duties not enough free time. But if you don't have my issues go for it.

-The first two Grand Theft Autos

http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/

Used to be able to d/l GTA 1 & 2 for free from rockstar. Had it on my old work computer. I'll see if I can find.

So many memories you guys are bringing up, but can't quite think of a game that I missed out on.

X-Wing VS Tie Fighter was fun

Descent 3 was ok, didn't like it as much as 1 and 2.

Full throttle was fun to play as well.

In the six axis shooter genre we now have Retrovirus and Miner Wars 2077 (or whatever it is) but neither are all that great. I have no idea why we don't have a Rollcage or a PC Wipeout for that matter though... Another one is the general space shooter genre; X3's combat sucks (but if you're playing it for the combat you're doing it wrong), Strike Suit Zero isn't fantastic, and generally nothing has topped Freespace and the sequel yet. Fortunately GOG has made sure they're still available, but still, it would be nice to play something a little prettier!

Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell. Can't remember which title in the series but I remember watching gameplay where you stuff bodies inside lockers on TechTV/G4 back in '05.

Contra. Side scrolling shooter where a giant tortoise appears and if you shoot it enough, it turns around and shows it's backside, which is a human face.

Pikmin. Tossing little critters was so fascinating. Not owning a Nintendo device on the other hand, wasn't.

A side scrolling mecha/robot game where you fight other robots and can pick up construction cranes and stuff to whack other robots. I watched my cousin play it on the PS One but can't remember what it's called.

Never played them but always wanted to. Don't know if I ever will.

I also missed the whole PS2 generation.
