Games you always wanted to play

GTA IV. I even bought it for my laptop in a sale only to find out it couldn't handle it. With GTA V on the horizon (which I can't even begin to describe how excited I am for) I'll most likely pick it up for my PS3 and grab a(nother) copy of IV along with it.

I've played all the Halo games with friends extensively, but I always wanted to be a part of it and own it and play it on my own. It's the only XBox game thus far that's made me do that so far. That and Forza Horizon perhaps.

Burnout 2. I own and have played extensively (excluding Burnout Crash) every other Burnout in the series, but I've never touched Burnout 2. One of these days I should pick it up.

Gran Turismo 2. Same as Burnout above, except I don't own GT5 because I don't like it, and I never bothered with the Prologues/demos/etc. Played the new GT Academy and looking forward to GT6, though.

Ace Combat 1, 2, 3 and Zero. AC04 was my first and I loved it, and I own one of the ones for the PSP (Ace Combat X I think?) that I've spent some time in, and Ace Combat 5 is one of my very favorite games of all time. Zero I guess because it seems similar (story quality wise) to AC05, and I've always wanted to know what the earlier Ace Combats were like. I played Afterburner on the Sega Genesis, if that counts. :p If you're wondering why 6 and Assault Horizon aren't on the list, it's because I've heard bad things about both (and I would have wanted 6 if it wasn't only on the 360). Particularly AH, as my brother who got me into the AC series bought it and hated it.

Battlezone (1980), the arcade game. The Activision remake is another one of my very favorite games of all time, and I'd love to play the original.

Lots of PC games that no longer exist. With my recent fascination for Champions Online (I played a lot of DC Universe Online back when it worked on my computer as well...shame that it doesn't anymore) I wish I could play City of Heroes, but it's gone.

EVE Online. Man, do I want to play this game...it seems like the perfect game for me. No way my computer could handle it, though.

ArmA III. See above.

The endings to most of the games I play. The ratio of games I own or have played to games I've beaten is very, very small.

Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell. Can't remember which title in the series but I remember watching gameplay where you stuff bodies inside lockers on TechTV/G4 back in '05.

I can't remember if MGS3 had lockers to do that, but I know MGS2 featured it a lot, since I just finished playing it. The Legacy Collection's got every Metal Gear game bar Rising, so I'd recommend that if you really want to fall into the series 👍

My list could end up pretty long, if I didn't have such a terrible memory...

Beyond Good And Evil - I own it! Found it for super-cheap (along with Crazy Taxi, both for PS2) last year, and have yet to actually load it up.

Final Fantasy Tactics: - Another I own (it was on for cheap just before they stopped producing them), that I haven't actually tried.

Silent Hill - Really, never played them. Always wanted to, but always ended up with RE that generation, and never bothered with the genre after that.

Banjo Kazooie - We were a PS1 household. I got to play a few N64 games at friends' houses (usually Mario, MarioKart, or Goldeneye), but this one always eluded me.

Shenmue - I don't think I knew a single person who owned a Dreamcast back when they were being produced. The chances of knowing someone who also dug this sort of game? Microscopic :(

Sly Cooper - er, the series. Any of them!

Auto Modellista - Heard it was crap, but I was drawn (ha!) by the animation style. Of course, it being so bad makes it impossible to find these days.

Bushido Blade - Jumping back to PS1 days, the idea of a realistic fighting game where one hit could kill you had me so interested... yet I could never find it.

Fighters Megamix - It was Sega's crossover fighting game, with some of the bizarre characters from the terrible Sonic fighting game thrown in for good measure... and even AM2's palm tree

Snake Eater had a lot more "throw people off of cliffs" and "throw people into rivers" than it did lockers; though there were some sections with a lot of that about 3/4ths through the game. And Auto Modellista sucks, but it is still... surprisingly fun to play. The presentation goes a long way.

Auto modellista looked really nice indeed but ghat wasn't enough for me to love the game. I still have it and I can say that the graphics haven't aged that well.

Bushido Blade is still one of my favorite psone games. I remember buying it on the release day and was totally amazed by it. It looks horrible today, but it still plays very well.

Good news!]

Thanks a lot Neema, but it's too late now. I do most of my gaming at the Ps3, and I'm considering a 3DS for portable fun every now and then. Some games I'm trying out now because of PSN releases (like Jet Set radio, for example).

By the way, I wonder why doesn't SEGA releases more classics, like Shenmue, Saturn Shinobi, Amok, Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon Collection, etc. That would be awesome fun.

A few for me:

Driving Emotion Type S: PS2 launch title.

Group S Challenge: XBOX.

Evolution GT: XBOX.

Top Gear Rally 2: N64

Funny you bring up Driving Emotion Type S, I still have it and it's not bad for when it came out. :)

Battlefield 2

Having so much fun in Battlefield 1942 a while back, I definitely wanted to get this one. I don't know if it was my computer or the game, but it just keeps on crashing whenever I join a game.

Monster Hunter (for current gen consoles)

It's only available in Japan and the latest American release was for the PSP in 2007/8. This is probably the only game I played that almost clocked in at 1000 hours.

I had to be sure of something. From Post #23, Stradivis, I think you mean "SEGA Super GT" (also called SCUD (Super Car Ultimate Drive) Race). That's my all-time favorite arcade racer.

Get ready for a lot of rally games here. Another game that crossed my mind was V-Rally 3. It was a game I kind of wanted to get while the PS2 was still hot. I would want to play the Rallisport Challenge games. Besides RACE 07, another game I wanted to own for the PC was Colin McRae Rally 2005. I'm eyeing the DiRT games, but I feel CMR2005 was sort of the final hurrah for simulation-type rally racing from Codemasters.

Thanks to this thread yesterday I installed Grand Prix 4! LOL
I can set widescreen and frame rate is very very good even with a 5 years old laptop. AI better than most of nowdays racing games. Here is the install guide http://www.gp4central.com/library/#install

GP4 is one of mine I always wanted to play too. I had GP3 and played it endlessly. When 4 came out I never had a good enough pc to run it and then just forgot about it. Its a shame EA took over the F1 titles at the time because there could have been so much more to come from Geoff Crammonds games. They were awesome as they were

Having owned and played through the game twice, I can assure you that it is pretty crap. The physics are horrendous, the game can be finished within 5 hours and the announcer will most likely get on your nerves. With that said, I found the customization and the cell-shaded graphics neat. But that's about it.

I remembered another one earlier on: No One Lives Forever. I remember thinking it looked awesome but I just never got round to playing it.

No One Lives Forever was absolutely brilliant! One of my favourite PS2 titles. It looked pretty crap when it launched but the gameplay was top quality and the comedy-spy approach was handled superbly. I always wanted another one but it's highly unlikely to ever happen.

Auto Modellista is fun if you get used to the wacky physics, but it's pretty thin on stuff to do. I feel bad for anyone who missed out on Project Gotham Racing 2 -- four player split screen with all those popular roadcars was a blast, and that was also my first experience racing on Xbox Live. Classic game.

With emulators, anything from the PSX/N64 era or earlier is easy to try, and there are not many '00s games left on my wanted list. I mostly want to play arcade games that I've never had an opportunity to try:
  1. F-Zero AX (played it just once)
  2. Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 4 (I adored MT1/MT2/MT3, really miss that game)
  3. Initial D: Arcade Stage Ver. 4, 5, 6, 7 (only ever got to try the first three)
  4. Road Fighters (homage to Enthusia in arcade-racer form)
Tokyo Extreme Racer 3, great game but wasn't sold in the UK,:grumpy: So replace 3 with Zero.:)
I just started a new game in TXR Zero a few days ago. :) I'm reliving my Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune days, recreating the cars from my old memory cards and playing Yuzo Koshiro's soundtrack in place of the original TXR music. With the best tires available and the brake balance tilted almost completely to the front, the handling is a lot better than I remembered.

Thanks, I think it was MGS2, I'll be sure to get that collection soon. ;)

A side scrolling mecha/robot game where you fight other robots and can pick up construction cranes and stuff to whack other robots. I watched my cousin play it on the PS One but can't remember what it's called.

So I decided to search a bit and... I FOUND IT!

SO AWESOME! :D

And watching it now, oh god it's so lame...

What interests me is that "games missed" tend to fall in to two different categories: 1) Didn't play it? - too late, 2) Didn't play it? - do it now.

Many games really have to be played at the time, or else much of the experience is lost. I suppose it's the suspension of disbelief at play. Some of the greatest experiences will rely heavily on atmosphere, but they can be the games that lose the most over time. The original Silent Hill was sublime at the time, but if you missed it, you will never truly have the chance to experience the game in all it's glory. Whereas something like Gyruss (I am lucky enough to have an original cabinet) will continue to do much of what it did then.

My game missed: The Last Ninja 3. Played it, but way too late, so didn't experience it.

A lot of the PC games I have always wanted to play were mostly because I didn't have a capable enough PC at the time. Some others probably were games I could play but just never got to buy or own. I could even say the very first "IndyCar Racing" even if just to race Indianapolis in the first ICR. Sometimes, games you finally get to play meet the level of joy you had when you wanted to play it. That was the case when I finally got to play "Need for Speed 2 SE." Loved the heck out that game as much as I wanted to play it back then.

So I get what you mean there, LeMansAid. Oh.. here's another game I'd add to my "want to play" list- one of the other few racing games devoted to sportscar racing- Total Immersion Racing.

I've played (used to own) TIR. I enjoyed it back when I had it. One of the main features of the game (if I remember correctly) was the AI's grudge system, which even rolled over between races (e.g. if you ran someone off the track one race, they would be aggressive against you the next - the AI were named drivers.).

It's still worth it. A comunity of modders updated the teams to the last seasons, 2013, 2012, 2011 etc. Graphic has improved through the years. For now I'm playing the vanilla game, when I have time I'll surely install some mods. 👍

And this winter hopefully should be RBR time.
What interests me is that "games missed" tend to fall in to two different categories: 1) Didn't play it? - too late, 2) Didn't play it? - do it now.
Luckly considering all the mods, Grand Prix 4 and RBR enter in that second category.
Another game I'll play soner or later is Bioshock for PS3.

If I have a chance to play DotA 2, I will be happy. I just don't know if the game requires something in order to play it, like that beta key and internet connection. I hope someone can confirm me if I'm correct or not.

You'll need an internet connection but you don't need a beta invite anymore, the game is officially released.

So, in other words, you can't play the game offline? Thanks.

It's not so much the games I wanted to play but the online play I can't get because of my internet speed. On a good day I can play solo games such as Diablo 3, but if I go multiplayer there's just enough info that I lag out.

So pretty much any major release of the last 4-5 years with online multiplayer.

Despite my poor history and memories of this style of racing, the EA Sports F1 games between 1999 and 2002 are among those I haven't gotten to play. I've played some of the tracks converted to Sports Car GT from the EA F1 games, but never have I played any the F1 games from EA. Modding was just as crucial to this bunch of games as it has been for Sports Car GT. And of course, these F1 games published by EA were made by the good folks at Image Space Incorporated. This series of F1 games is crazy popular. You could say that this would be the F1 series of games I'd want to play as much as I want to play NASCAR Racing 2003 Edition.

I thought of another one, SWAT 4, so I ordered it from Amazon last night. I liked what I played of SWAT 3 but I know (of) some guys who still play SWAT 4 so I'm going to see if I can join them. I love older tactical shooters (or not-shooters, in this case) such as this, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six so I'm excited to play what is effectively a new game (to me) in a dead genre.

This game? It was awesome, but I've come across very few machines. This and Indy 500, also from Sega. I wonder why they didn't release updated versions, along with Sega Touring Car Championship.

This game has always fascinated me ever since I watched a gameplay video of it.

Now I'm looking for Katamari Forever but it seems I'm going to have to import it as I can't find it anywhere in my country. :(
