G'day everyone,

I'm new to the site, but am a 31yo long-time GT gamer who is looking for some decent plans on which I can build a better Racing Seat mount for my Logitech G25 setup.

Currently, I have a highly modified version of one of these:
phpThumb.php

I have welded an extra mount on the side next to the left leg for the gear shifter of the G25, as well as replacing the crappy plastic seat with a nice comfy one pulled out of my Torana, as well as adding some wheels for extra hight and mobility of the unit.

However, the annoying flimsy construction of this thing, and the wobble of the wheel due to the extremely suspect adjustment design is prompting me to build myself something a bit more sturdy, and better laid out (with feet preferably at least 6" lower than my arse).

So, having known of this site for a while, and of the many GT fanatics on the board, assumed that there has got to be some of you out there who have some excellent gaming set ups.

So, what is it that I'm asking? Basically I'm after someone who has a nice comfy setup (for a 5'10" human) to do some measurements, on their seat/steering wheel mount, and perhaps augment them with photos, so that someone like myself with a bit of a background in backyard welding may be able to knock up a copy for themselves.

Essentially, if someone were to be so nice, I would need the length, width and distance locations for all the components. How far the gear shift is from the seat, how high from the floor. The angle of the foot rest where the pedal unit rests, the angle and length of the steering wheel mount etc.

I fully understand that most people will probably look at this request and put it into the too-hard basket and pass on it, but I figured there is no harm in asking!

Cheers,
Steve

I don't suppose you can work with an AutoCad drawing file? I've got the rig I just built for my G27 drawn in AutoCad, and can easily get you that. If I have to dimension it and convert it to a pdf, that will take a little time.

Just as background, before I designed and built mine, I did a mock-up to get everything where I felt comfortable with it. Next I designed this first prototype to allow me to adjust the height and angle of the pedals, the angle, fore/aft and vertical position of the wheel, and the fore/aft and vertical position of the shifter mount.

That would be a pretty good start, I can always work out the dimensions if I have a single length to start with, like the base length etc. Thanks.

blind829, attached is the original AutoCad drawing file (.dwg) and an iges file from AutoCad. Hope one of them works for you.
Just so you know, the drawing isn't really complete, in that some of the detail is missing. I use AutoCad to work out the dimensions and such before and while I'm building. If I don't need it to work out a dimension, the part gets built without the drawing being updated. Just lazy and impatient I guess! If there are things that are missing, just give me a shout and I'll see what I can do.

where did you get this seat and how much was it?

Firtly, thanks bx2230. That stuff will come in handy.

Will be buying some steel shortly to start my welding project.

Secondly, zr1chris I bought it from Powerhouse back when GT4 came out. I think I paid about $150. Pretty overpriced, but I needed something at the time.

devonuto, I can understand you want a new raceframe, but I'm afraid that asking other people for measures probably won't get you really comfortable.

If I were building a new raceframe, I would start with the seat - and get that positioned in about the same height as a real car. Then take your wheel and try to hold it out in front of you where you think it would be comfortable. You might need a friend to measure the height/ and placement for you.
A temporary wodden frame built with clamps could be a very good start for getting the right measurements.
Same thing with the gear shifter. When I originally built my frame, it was a lot further away from the seat, but after hours of racing I knew I had to tweak the position a bit.

Here's a couple of sites woth checking out:
TWIP
Measurements and plans
RSC

Check out videos as well - there's 1000's of them if you run out of ideas. Or just need drooling material. :)
Best of luck. Keep us posted.

Thanks, I'll definitely check it out.

After much investigation and several hours of cutting, welding & painting, my fairly straightforward functional racting seat setup is complete. Check it out:
