my mom got F@#$ at Petro Canada. this girl that worked their night shift placed a camera in the ceiling watching over the thing you enter the pin number into. and they would swip it 2 times some how copying the debit card. and she was going to the bank wanting to put money into the account. she would say she is putting in $500 dollars, than put a empty envelope that should have $500 into the slot . then take out $500 dollars. the really funny thing is they kept trying to contact us, but my mom thaught they were telemarketers and just pick up then hang up the phone, so they sent her a letter because they couldnt contact her. apperently she did this to a lot of places.

Always protect your PIN. I used to feel embarassed, like I was being a major a-hole when I covered up my PIN number with my other hand while entering it on the keypad. But you need to understand that's YOUR money, it's your RIGHT and also your DUTY to protect it for your own sake.

I always enter my PIN with two hands, sometimes just tapping keys that arent actually in the PIN, and sometimes actually pressing the buttons. I think thats pretty secure.

Two hands is always good. You should even pick passwords and stuff for the PC that use two hands to type. If you type you password with two hands it is harder to tell what it is.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom getting ripped off by the scums. By sharing this information, hopefully It'll serve as an heads up to the people who read this. I know I'll be more careful, thanks S13.

I've heard of an trick similar to yours, except with just one hand. I used to do it sometimes, but I think I'll start doing it again.

You should start to type your PIN different, if you can. Gas stations are the best place for robbers to commit fraud because they don't require you to sign anything. You can drive up to the pump and slide your card and type in your PIN.

Or pick one that can be done so ridiculously fast they have to run it in slow mo to see it. I used to have a password (which is now innactive so feel free to try it wherever you want) which was "1011212". I used to type it with my debit card and on the computer. I had complete confidence in letting people watch me type it too, because they were all like "what...when..how did he...what!?" It was funny watching them try to guess it.

Your only 15, why do you have a debit card?

It doesn't really mater what your password/PIN is, if you type it enough, you will end up being lightning fast with it. I use similar passwords for many for my accounts, and after about 8 years of typing them in again and again, I can do them with lightning speed even though they don't have a very simple pattern.

but that was just an example with 1011212, though. since all the numbers are in close proximity to each other and you only need one or two fingers to do it, it can be very difficult to watch/remember.

Ouch, that's bad. My PIN is only 4 digits, and I haven't really been keeping it all that secure - that changes today. :dunce:

PS
...to access my bank account and money?...duh? lol

I don't have a debit card, but still have a bank account. You would need to have a debit card if you were going to buy things using the money from that account, without using a check.

On the internet I always use words as my passwords, because they´re easy to remember and harder for others to find out.

Actually, letter and number cobinations are the hardest to find out. Words aren't impossible to crack...haven't you ever watched a movie where the codebreaker gets into the person's head and life and eventually finds the password? Granted, they're just movies, but there's an element of truth to them.

My debit card also functions like a regular Visa/Mastercard, and the money comes out of my checking account, but requires no PIN. I thought most everybody has access to this? I've used it for everything the past 6 years or so and have never had to enter a PIN for anything. I can choose to use it with a PIN if I want, but why bother? It also gives me like 1 or 2 percent of the money I spend every year as a cashback bonus, so I use it for everything I would use cash for. I usually get about $120 bucks a year just for using it.
