GATE 2 - GT300 championship - Pre-season test race announced

Really good fun bar that random guy causing crashing at Nurb.

Specs really need looking at, my car especially was a dog in a straight line and felt poor in corners and tyre wear wise. Saying that, I don't know how others got on with wear but mine was bad, once they went off the car wouldn't stop.
 
Not sure about wear, but the RX, Garaiya, IS350, and S2000 all seemed pretty well matched to me when that wasn't a factor. The MR2 might have been slow at Fuji (maybe too _much_ aero); didn't encounter one. I know when I tried it quickly last night it seemed on pace at GP/F.

Scalebreaker96 and GTP_alexi seemed decent (at communicating, and scale had OK pace from what I saw, didn't see alexi) - any experiences on track there?

Personally, I was having a blast with the feel with the S3s and low aero. I thought the format this morning was really fun of itself, too. I'd sign up for that every week! I tend to find week-long pre-quali a little draining, especially if I'm juggling multiple things, but that's partly just trying to shoehorn it in to my weekends with the time zone. Got Series X and a WRS enduro quali left to do today. Yay, no practice.

Not sure why room got bad. It was fine when I entered.

The side monitors are such a tell tale sign of a rooms condition. They will glitch here and there in rooms that got somebody tugging on the connection. Then if it gets bad they DC.

Combine that issue with the false starts and I let it get to me.

Truly sorry for coming off harsh. I've been a lil under the weather and it got the best of me today.

Apologize to all for bailing out. I'll have a better state of mind for next week.


As for hosting. I'd be ok giving it a go. I can ensure no pull besides my rig in the Internet as well to ensure maximum connection.

Btw how you like that pink S2000? It kinda looks good IMO. I'm just not man enough to use pink. LoL

If you need any others I can send them over.


Wii, I noticed you tried the Altenza. Whatcha think? I couldn't get the car to turn on Suzuka. Also noticed yours had yellow highlights. If you are into duping. I'd like to get a copy of it. ;) can return the favor an send mine that's black where you have yellow.

Also I do like the low aero S3's. the cars a lively and fun to drive. I'm really partial to the ARTA Garaiya (P), S2000 LM and RX7(P). Be the three I test this week and decide from there.

Makes it more about timing it perfectly off the line
 
Id forgotten to mention the Altezza being 20/25 aero btw.
I wouldn't recommend chassis rigidity either.


@ Stretch - Which car(s) did you use?
 
Also, anyone comparing/testing the MR2 might want to eyeball the power curve.

I only took it out for the first race as I saw no one else was using it, and I didn't enjoy it much. Too much understeer compared to the other cars. I probably wasn't using it to its full potential, but I don't seem to be the only one that doesn't like it either.

I was unaware that it came in other colours though. I'll dupe mine and send one over to you 👍

Anyways, I missed out on the second race. For the last race I used the Spoon S2000, which I had a blast with. It's definitely going to be my first pick. If I don't get it though I'll be happy to drive the pink S2000 LM :D
 
Factory Cusco Driver here, I've been with the works team for 3 seasons and counting now. Ill give good numbers on the Cusco chassis once I spin it around the track! 👍

It needs to be short shifted to get the most out of it, is what I was saying. I don't know for sure it does or doesn't need more oomph, but going past the power band all the way to redline certainly won't do it any favours.
 
Enjoyed the racing yesterday. As Dom (CSL) and I beendoing the car spec testing I had a big advantage to the rest of you, I knew the cars very well, had good set-ups, and how to drive them around the tracks. The race at Fuji was great fun and reminded me why I like these cars so much. They make for superb close racing, better than any other car I know of.

Here is my take on the different cars.

The three GT300 FR cars (Amemiya RX7 '06, Subaru '03, Celica) performs very similar around the track. Straight line speed, cornering, balance, acceleration, nearly identical.

The two Hondas are quite similar to the three above. If anything they might have a little higher top speed (especially the spoon) but maybe not as planted on the road. Around the track, its really splitting hair which of the these five cars do what and don't.

The two Garaiyas are different. They have more grip than the five FR cars above but even if they accelerate well they are slower down the straight. The '08 model is a bit loser in the rear where the '03 push a bit in the corners.

The Lexus is a little different to the other two MR cars above. I has great acceleration but is the slowest car in a straight line. Handling is difficult to judge and perhaps a but personal. I think it feels a bit like the GT500 NSX, kind of mushy in the corners. You don't have a good feel what is going on, but make no misstake, its fast. When seeing tha total lap time I always get surprised how very fast this car is.

Same thing with the Altezza, Yes it understeers but it corners fast and has great straight line speed. In one of my tests it was the second fastest car but given it has a 5-speed box it takes some time to get used to.

The MRSis a strange car completely the opposite than you would think. It has superb straight line speed but has less grip than the rest. That's why it has far more DF than the rest. I will test the spec a bit more, but given that its so fast down the straight I'm not sure we car increase the HP. It's a strange car and maybe its too different than the others to be part of the grid.

Last one, the Subaru '08, the only 4wd in the field. Slow down the straight but quick in everyting else. You have to spend some time tuning it before making your judgement. At some tracks it will prbably be deadly.

Just my take on the cars. I'm sure Dom (CSL) has a ton of opinions too.

I was thinking to myself last night maybe it's the tune whats the problem as sometimes the car wouldn't go into a corner, it would just slide.

But in terms of straight line speed there is 100% a problem. I will upload a video and you can see what I'm saying but when in slip, I couldn't get near enough for a overtake but when being slipped cars would take me within a few seconds.

But handling wise, I can't tune for the life of me especially with 2.09 killing this game. I always had a default setup with only changes to the ride hight and rear toe but not it seem's everything is different. Personally I think it needs to be looked at.

When setting car specs you try to get all the cars to fit within an envelope of straightline speed, cornering speed, acceleration, etc. If having cars that are outstanding in one aspect but bad in other(s), its a problem to create close good racing. As I wrote, there are two cars that might fall outside of the perfromance envelope we try to create, the Subaru '08 and the MRS.

No doubt the Subaru '08 has bad straightline speed. No need to upload a video. But its very good in some other aspects. If adding HP to it it might very well be a superior car to the rest around the tracks. If you cannot take advantage this cars strength, just pick one of the other nine cars we know are very similar in performance on all tracks.
 
I was going to make a video as I thought the racing was great but it can be used as an example.

I personally think it needs a bit more. You can't overtake any car unless they make a error.

We need to sit down Johan and find a nice tune as I'm just sticking a GT-R tune on it and that GT-R tune doesn't even work anymore since the update!

It seems they are either too slow or too fast , no middle ground .

Im sure these guys will try the best to get it as perfect as possible .
 
Sorry I missed the preseason race(s). Am I too late to sign up? I was wanting to use the '08 Garaiya. I checked gtp recently using the app but my pm inbox didn't say I had anything. Hopefully I can still get in...

Ahh right, well I still think looking into it a bit is best, I would love to use the Subaru, always loved the car as a kid.
 
Rather then false checks. Lets just practice rolling starts like the races will be done. ;)

The Subaru is slow down the straight aways with its very low trap speed alongside the Wed's Lexus, and the Cusco has very slow corner entry, but powerful corner exit. I've found speed in the Cusco because I shave off a lot of downforce to make it faster than an Rx-7 down the straights. But we these settings if the Cusco is reg right its just going to get smashed. I actually haven't seen a series yet where the Cusco has been too fast it seem like you can slow down the pack enough to get this car to a dominate form, but I will be a pain in your 🤬 no matter what the specs are driving this chassis. I'm the draft king in this machine and I'm coming to a track near you, beware drivers!!!

I thought last night went pretty well. I was driving the 03 Subaru and at various points throughout the night I was racing close to most of the other cars. I am happy that the specs are about as close as we are going to get. Dom and Johan have done a great job.
I thought the fast tire wear we used was also about right.

If when it comes to the selection process it becomes obvious that there are certain cars that people don't want to drive, we have the option to either tweak or drop any car from the series.

This is a tentative schedule;

Pre-season race - January 26th - 150km
1. Nurburgring GP/D - February 2nd - 150km, 42 +1 laps
2. Twin Ring Motegi - February 9th - 150km, 31 +1 laps
3. Grand Valley Speedway - February 16th - 150km, 31 +1 laps
4. Suzuka - February 23rd - 150km, 26 +1 laps
5. Laguna Seca - March 2nd - 150km, 42 +1 laps
6. monaco - March 9th - 150km, 45 +1 laps
7. Cape Ring Inside - March 16th - 150km, 61 +1 laps
8. Spa - March 23rd - 150km, 21+1 laps

I am looking for suggestions for a track for the Pre season. I must admit, I really enjoyed the Fuji race and as that track isn't in the schedule we could run a Pre season race there?

From now on all races will be run using a rolling start, so there is no debate about the grid start. I think we should also run the qualifier as though it were a league race, for those that haven't experienced it before.

It would be a good idea to start thinking about your car selection. After the final Pre season race everyone will be asked to select 3 cars that they would be happy driving for the season and then we can put people into teams.
Johan posted a really good guide on each cars strength and weaknesses a page or two back. You can find it here

I hope to post in the Racing Series thread in the next few days and then we can accept sign ups.

Awesome. I haven't been checking gtp often since I wasn't racing anything. I'm subscribed to this thread now...

Fuji sounds like a good preseason to me. Wish it was part of the season though.

That's sounds about right the '08 Cusco is a tank in the middle of the road.
