 My school last year announced they were becoming a technology college, 6 months later the technology bit burned down.

haha.

We became a sports college the other year and not long after our new sports facility was opened the newly sayed paving around it started to sink into the ground lol. There were just these random 3 feet deep holes in the floor.

I helping in the design of my new school which will specialize in engineering,IIRC.

Is the that the future that awaits my school. We've been granted sports college status.. Now bad stuff is gonna happen.

I can't wait. :dopey:

I didn't need a single grade for any of the jobs I've done, I've gone from office junior (first job) to sales, managment, systems managment, md and partner and not a single one of these have required me to have any grades. What you will need grades for is getting other grades for specialised area like carpentry, you'd go on an apprenticship and do a carpentry course for that but, specialist areas are basically it. I started running my own business at the age of 20 in telecoms after working for a telecoms comapny for 2-3 years, I stopped it at just over 22 and went into a managment role for a marketing company running a large telecoms campain. I'm now running another telecoms business with two other people, I started this one more recently and it's profitable so far, more so than the last, which I stopped for other reasons. I also am able to work part time 20 hours a week for a local telecoms firm , though I don't have a single qualification in it, I still get paid plent by the hour managing systems for the company. Experience is better than any grade you can have, and you don't need grades to get started.

You can be proud of your grades, if you worked hard and you got good grades wether it's a C or an A+, if you worked hard and you know that YOU did well, be happy about it. If you didn't do well, it doesn't mean it's time to apply for a job in the army., you just have less to be proud of.

LOL my school is becoming a I.T speciliast next year. 80% of the kids in my year failed their GNVQ I.C.T
Wow, my old school was starting to become a Drama and Dance specialist. WTF? No one I was with in class even attempted to do Dance, so what's the point on becoming one? :)

My school is a church school (yes, I know...). Amusingly, our results showed that the best two subjects, by raw GCSEs and percentage of entrants were:

Science
Information Technology

The worst two subjects, similarly, were:

Health & Social Care
Religious Studies

Oh, how I laughed.

HA!

I got 6th form im studying economics, tourism, social studies and vocab science

Hahahaha the year im in done so badly in our I.T. results that the school have actually asked for a remark since we are an I.T. specialist....

in other words our year has ****ed up the specialist status for I.T. (we still have specialist status for maths)

Sorry for the revival, but I got my results today (Im a below average student) 1a 2b's 3c's 4d's 1g ( RE deliberately failed) I am quite proud of myself to be honest, but I felt that I did better in some exams but obviously not :( but I got into AS levels, where I am hopefully taking Physics, (got A+A* on my modules) Economics, Sports leadership, and Ipro instead of sociology Which clashed with Physics :(
any advice for these subjects?
and how did you do if you took your gcse's?
and what are your plans?
Paris.

I just got my AS results, I took Physics, Maths and ICT. For physics I would recommend getting a book (the school should recommend one) and try and hand in your coursework as early as possible to get feedback. And make sure you do the practice tests FULLY in your free periods. Even if it's only once. Because this year and last year hundreds of students complained that one of the exams was to hard for the time frame. (The grade boundaries were like 50% for an A, but if you mess up one question then you can drop a grade easily)

Good luck, it's really easy for the first 3 or so months with loads of time on your hands. So make sure you meet all deadlines and do all your homework in that time. And enjoy the freedom.

You'll love it.

and how did you do if you took your gcse's?

6 A's, 6 B's and a Pass(C) in ICT :D

I feel I could have done better in some things due to me being unwilling to do courswork last year but I was amazed at how consistent my results were, my friends all seem to be all over the place and random.

Tiddy how boring was IT? did you do the edexcel course? well done on your results. and thanks Owen for the advice I will be sure to make the most of it.

I did the OCR course that I didn't want to do(It was all coursework based which I dislike). I admit I could have done better on it but it was extremely tedious and after a few weeks I just lost interest.

It's worth noting that we began the course in year 9 and I admit I found ICT so tedious I skipped school many times just to avoid the lesson.

I should have done better though as when it comes to practical work than most of the people who got better grades than me in the subject (I spent most of the 2 years telling other people how to do things) but I was unwilling to evidence my work and as such was not awarded the grades I could have achieved in it (I got the equivalent of 3 C's rather than the 3 A's I was predicted).

Thank you for the congratulations, congratulations on your results too! :)

Thats so similar to how I was in IT we started at the end of year 9 and did four bits of coursework; multimedia, spreadsheet, database and word processing, but god it was boring if it hadn't been to my friend I sat next to I would have killed myself. only a week until school starts again though.

We did: spreadsheet, database, multimedia, animation and a generic everything unit.

The only unit I enjoyed was animation and same, the only thing that kept me sane was I struck up a great friendship with the girl sat next to me and had a couple of good friends around me and I know, I'm strangely looking forward to it but only because of a few crazy things me and a friend are planning on doing to see peoples reactions :).
