I was wondering how many play without the gear indicator? I used to play with it on all the time and rely on it for braking, but I've recently started a new profile and have been playing with it off.

Definitely adds more to the game.

Use to when I started using manual. After I got good enough with mt then I switched it off

The only time I use it, is if I'm using an unfamiliar car and looking for general breaking points. 8 times out of 10, it have it off.

Off - Useful if you are in a new car and a new track and you are learning it. But it is set up to be safe - so you will learn bad habits if you rely on it. Braking 50 yards too early and maybe even being in the wrong gear for a corner.

May be useful if you are driving at night with no headlights though!

It slowed me down badly. Once they finally added an option to turn it off (like in GT4) i did it. The time before this update i used to cover the place on TV with a piece of hard paper :D

I, too, switched it off after switching to manual.

I never truly used it, but once in a while I'd catch a glimpse at it and it would not suit my style of shifting.

Keep it off. The reason you choose manual is to be in charge of the shifting. SO, why would I want a machine telling me when and how to shift?

There's a term for that; automatic transmission.

Same here. Turned it off awhile after the patch. Once I got used to it off, I was much faster than before.

I haven't turned it off but after reading I might start trying without.

I haven't turned it off and probably won't. For the cars I normally drive, in cockpit view it is frequently too small for me to read when I am concentrating on the track.

I turned it off as soon as I started playing GT5. It is more of a guide to your braking points than an accurate indicator after all ;)
