This is the general electronica discussion thread. This is where you discuss Electronica music. I'll start.

What is everyone's current favorite tune?

Mine is Andain - Beautiful Things

Perry O'Neil - Wave Force

It has a great beat, very epic, I love it! It's been on ASOT for the past three weeks.

As far in as i am into trance.. to pick one id have to say
Utah Saints - Lost Vagueness
not new..but good, can we possibly post a list of our favorite songs if we want? :)

A favorites list? I couldn't make one if I wanted to. There's just so many songs that I like and I can't be bothered to go back two or even three years back to find out which songs I liked.

One song that always comes to mind is Ian van Dahl - Castles in the Sky. Seriously, this song never gets old, it was released way back in 1997. It's one of my favorite in any genre.

How about a favorites list so far for this year?

I have a new favorite for this week. It's been on ASOT for two weeks straight, it was last week's tune of the week.

Ernesto vs Bastian - The Darkside of the Moon

When the sun is cold and black
when you want to scream and shout
and the record plays The Dark Side of the Moon.

Freakin' awesome. 👍

What song got everyone started in Electronica? For me I think it was either Sandstorm by Darude or Ameno by DJ Quicksilver. Still both awesome tunes. 👍

Here's a great little timeline and explanation of the 50+ subclassifications of "electronica". In fact, I hate that mid-90's-term "Electronica" because it's generic, like Rock, Classic, Rap, or Country.

On the other hand, I liked the Electrofunk stuff that occasionally made it to the pop charts in the early-80's. Planet Rock (it's the Sure Shot!) was probably the first all-electronic hit that sounded cool to me, because it was different than what was getting played around. I lived in Baltimore in 1982, and it was just steets ahead of what else was out there for an 8-year-old to hear on the radio.

Funny, I hear that song a lot more lately; maybe the cheesy stuff is making a comeback, since the definitions of what's marketable in music today becomes a broader spectrum every year.

I like the term "Electronica" beacuse you can fit more categories into it. If I made he thread title "General Techno discussion" and we started talking about trance, some people will probably start to argue about it. So I just made it Electronica.

Also, Ishkur's Guide To Electronica music is awesome. I've probably been through the whole thing more than 10 times. 👍

Rock rock do the planet rock, don't stop!

good move! fav track atm would have to be Dave Gahan - Dirty Sticky Floors (Junkie XL Vocal Remix) and the Dub version.
Fav mix cd: Great wall-paul oakenfold.

:sly:

I'm still liking that Beautiful Things by Andain. My favorite mix cd right now is Tiesto - Nyana cd2. My favorite cd by a producer now is 76 by AVB.

The song that probably got me started was Amber - Sexual. I'm sure other songs also got me interested, but this one is the only one that stands out in my mind.

 My friend loves that song! Sometimes he'll just start singing it out of the blue while we were in school.

I hope he doesn't touch himself while he sings it out loud. :)

My favorite CD out right now is Involver by Sasha. 👍

Electronica? Well, as you said integra it's a very wide category.

I'm mostly into House, preferably tribal, vocal, trancestyle and electro-house. Always liked the harder stuff that sometimes is labeled electroclash.

But to mention what arsetits I like, it's of course my own party-music guru Felix Da Housecat, and then amongst others Vitalic, David Caretta, Miss Kittin, Timo Maas and Armand Van Helden to mention a few.

Some favourite electronica tracks at the moment:

Andrea Doria - Bucci bag
Loco - Eighty Ten (Oliver klein panic in the streets mix)
Rogue Traders - Stay
Black Man - Black Trip
Hakan Lidbo - Bad Girls Go To Hell

Is that on PvD's Politics of Dancing CD?

Perry O'Neil - Wave Force for the 5th week in a row on ASOT! Is this some sort of new record? I highly recommend getting this tune. Top 5 for 2004, guarennteed. 👍

I like a bit of electronica.

The Chemical Brothers
DJ Shadow
Prefuse 73
Aphex Twin
Orbital
The Orb
Massive Attack
Moby
The Prodigy
Tricky
Sneaker Pimps
Leftfield

Of all those, Massive Attack is the greatest.

Tiësto at the 2004 olympic games.
2004-08-06

BREAKING NEWS:

Tiësto performing at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games, Athens 2004.

This evening on Dutch television the Greek artistic director of the openings ceremony (Dimitris Papaioannou) confirmed that they were very proud to have Tiësto as a part of their official opening of the Olympic Games of Athens 2004 on Friday August 13, 2004. He is going to spin his music live during the parade of athletes. During this parade all participating nations introduce their athletes

What do you think about that? Should an artist like DJ Tiesto perform an event like the opening ceremony? Is it a commercialization of the Olympics or introducing a genre of music to people who wouldn't have found it on their own?

Now, I have a reason to watch it.

Hell yes he should spin at the opening ceremony! No, it isnt a commercialization of the Olympics. I think it will introduce a genere of music to people who would have never found it on their own.

👍👍

Now, I have a reason to watch it.

 Me too!

Has anyone heard anything from Air's new album Talkie Walkie? It's isn't really electronica per se but more of chillout. It's close enough. I really like it. 👍 You should check it out if you are into chillout music.
