So, I just got finished tearing around Monza with my Aventador and it is completely stock except for weight reductions, adjustable suspension and racing brakes, There are no power upgrades nor transmission upgrades, I used GTPlanet member praiano63's Aventador Tune https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...ntador-lp700-4-11.291084/page-59#post-9355676 as a base to try out some new suspension adjustments. I drove my laps on Sport Soft tires, like he recommends.

I tore Monza up! I loved the feel of the suspension, etc. I was very happy with my lap times. Just for giggles I threw Racing Soft tires on the car and kept everything else the same. Wow! The car drove like crap!! My back end was sliding all around on me. Where did all the grip go? Total oversteer. Then I tried Racing Hard. Basically, the same thing. The car drove like crap compared to the Sport Soft tires. I even went back to the Sport Soft tires to make sure I didnt accidentally change something else. The car drove incredibly well.

So, my question is - since Im a complete Gran Turismo n00b - whats happening here? Why are racing tires making this car drive worse? I know the tires are not just grip multipliers, but I would still think an Aventador should be able to handle them. Is it just this particular tune? Are the suspension settings just not playing nice with Racing Tires? I know the general consensus around here is 'people who just slap on Racing Soft and hot lap non stop are looked down upon. Im not trying to do that. But now that I experienced what I did tonight, I figured I needed to ask some questions and hopefully some of you can give me a detailed rundown on tires in Gran Turismo. I can handle the technical, so bring it on. I want to know as much as I can about tires in this game. Tires are so freakin' important!

Thanks!
ALB

EDIT: Sorry. For 100% full disclosure, I also used the LSD settings recommended in that tune. If that matters to my question. LSD's still have me baffled.

This. It's the suspension.

For a tune to work with racing tyres on a street car you would need to rework the suspension.

Praiano states a few times in his thread that he doesn't tune road cars with race tyres and I think it has to do with aero. But that's not to say that the car can't drive well with race tyres, it's mostly the suspension that would need to change.

Okay. That kind of makes sense to me. For instance, I know Ive thrown Racing Soft on 100% stock non-racing cars of mine, except the Aventador and the cars didnt behave worse than before. I havent done that since probably December, when I was brand new to the game and I thought tires would just work like grip multipliers. Once i found out that wasnt the case, I stopped acting foolish (at least in THAT regard hah!)

Anyone else have any more info that might help me understand tires and/or their relationship with suspensions better?

The grippier the tires, the stiffer the general set up of the the suspension will need to be to make them work properly. Most Racing Hard tunes will work fairly well on Racing Soft tyres but the will not be 100% optimised. A lot of people seem to be mistaking this for RS tyres being "broken" but it is simply a case of not being tuned properly for them. Glad you asked rather than joining the angry herd.
The suspension is there to manage the forces generated by motion and lower the amount of load transmitted to the tyres. If the tyres can handle more load by nature (softer compounds) then any extra roll within the body will manifest in odd/negative characteristics.
