Nice post, Pupik. That was informative.

How exactly does a CD scratch-repairer work (i.e.: Perma-Spin), if no other liquids can touch the disc?

GTP, I need your help again.....

Okay, long story cut short, my pc cannot detect this device. Its a Chinese "knock off" iPod mp4 player 2GB. Now don't tell me I got ripped off and have no clue how stupid the device is (its not mine, its from a friend) I tried searching for answers on Google, but all that leads me to nothing........
Oh yeah, I need this answer by today if possible. If my friend knows about this, she's gonna kill me.......... :guilty:

A Chinese Knock off? Did it come with a cd or at least instructions?
A "fake" (or imitation) iPod mini. Looks something similar to this:

No, I don't have the CD nor the instructions. My friend just gave me her MP4 with the USB cable, nothing else. But the more I think about it, the more guilty I feel about ruining her mp4 player. Nothing on Google is helping and I can't for the life of me replacing it with my own money. The thing is, the MP4 player works fine except that it cannot detect files on the player. But the thing is, the device cannot be detected at all on my pc. It would only show the file for awhile, and if i tried to do anything (like right clicking, opening files, etc.) and the file all went missing and I got the screen mentioned above. Not it got worse, I have no chance if getting the mp4 to detect anything.:guilty:

File System "unknown" suggests to me that it could be Mac-formatted. Or it uses proprietary software.

Does it play stuff?

I have a car audio qwestion. I have a 400W sub that I'm going to install and I need an amp, but I can't find any affordable 400W amps. I was wondering whether a 600W amp would be good or if it would be too much for the sub. I also found a 480W amp which might be the better choice.

I have a general question - does anyone know where to find scans of all of the Monopoly board game cards (both Chance/Commie Chest and property cards)? I've found some historic old ones, but I want/need the current Uncle Pennybags ones.

I tried Google, but nothing came up, so I was wondering if someone was a mod on www.boardgameplayingcardforums.com or something. There are forums for everything these days...

eBay sellers: What type of Paypal account to you guys use to receive payments (eg. Card to bank account)? A regular personal one or a business one?

Looks like it needs a device driver that you don't have, and the system detects it as an empty read-only device. Since it plays OK, I don't think you have anything to worry about. You didn't break it, you just can't use it with your PC.

That would be copyrighted material, and anybody posting scans of the materials would face the wrath of Parker Brothers' legal staff. . . . .

Well it worked for my friend, how come it didn't work for me? :guilty: Oh, and its an MP4 player.....

That sucks. 👎 But I guess it could be worse. At school today she finally knew about it (thanks to a so called "friend" :irked:) and I did admit to her about it. Didn't really know if she was pissed or mad or anything because she had to go.... (there was an exam at the time, our classes were right next to each other.....) but later I'll see her at tuition again, don't know whats gonna happen then.... :guilty:

Now I feel more guilty than ever...... I broke her heart. :(

Why must it be 400w? Just use a 250 or 300 watt amp. There's plenty of those to choose from. The only difference is about 1 to 1.5 db per 100 watts.

Ok, so I've had a sore throat since Friday, and it hasn't gone away yet. I've taking DayQuil to try and relieve it, but that hasn't stopped it. I wound up using so many cough drops I gave myself stomach ache. I have to constantly drink to make swallowing bearable. I've also tried slowly drinking a shot of whiskey to numb it, and tried eating a bit of honey, neither worked.

Anyone have an idea as to what could work?

Not like tonsilitis is it?

Iono, never had it before. I had a head ache when it started, but that's gone now. And I've been trying to avoid thinking that it's tonsillitis.

Just went and looked in the mirror and they do appear swollen, though I'm not sure what their usual size is.

I really hope it isn't, because as well as sucking in general, it would really put a damper in my plans for exercising and whatnot.

Look in the mirror and see if you can see any whitish patches. If so, it's likely a strep infection.

Gargle with warm saltwater and see the doctor instead of asking teh intranets.

No spots. And I was hoping this was only minor, I don't really want to go to the doctor over something small, but if this doesn't go away soon I'll have to.

What is a sore throat?

Sore throat (pharyngitis) is very common. It is usually caused by an infection in the throat. Soreness in the throat may be the only symptom. In addition, you may also have a hoarse voice, mild cough, fever, headache, feel sick, feel tired, and the glands in your neck may swell. It may be painful to swallow. The soreness typically gets worse over 2-3 days and then usually gradually goes within a week. In about 1 in 10 cases the soreness lasts longer than a week. You may also develop a sore throat if you have a cold or flu-like illness.

Tonsillitis is an infection of the tonsils at the back of the mouth. Symptoms are similar to a sore throat, but may be more severe. In particular, fever and generally feeling unwell tend to be worse. You may be able to see some pus which looks like white spots on the enlarged red tonsils.
What is the treatment for sore throat and tonsillitis?

  • Not treating is an option as many throat infections are mild and soon get better.
  • Have plenty to drink. It is tempting not to drink very much if it is painful to swallow. You may become mildly dehydrated if you don't drink much, particularly if you also have a fever. Mild dehydration can make headaches and tiredness much worse.
  • Paracetamol or ibuprofen ease pain, headache, and fever. To keep symptoms to a minimum it is best to take a dose at regular intervals as recommended on the packet of medication rather than 'now and then'. For example, take paracetamol four times a day until symptoms ease.
  • Aspirin gargles may ease the soreness. (There is little research evidence that confirms this. However, it is a popular treatment and may be worth a try.) Dissolve some soluble aspirin in water and gargle for 3-4 minutes. You can do this 3-4 times a day. Spit out the aspirin after gargling. (Note: you should not give aspirin to children under 16.)
  • Other gargles, lozenges, and sprays that you can buy at pharmacies may help to soothe a sore throat. However, they do not shorten the illness.

Do I need an antibiotic?

Usually not. Most throat and tonsil infections are caused by viruses, although some are caused by bacteria. Without tests, it is usually not possible to tell if it is a viral or bacterial infection. Antibiotics kill bacteria, but do not kill viruses. However, even if a bacterium is the cause, an antibiotic does not make much difference in most cases. Your immune system usually clears these infections within a few days whether caused by a virus or a bacterium. Also, antibiotics can sometimes cause side-effects such as diarrhoea, feeling sick, rash, and stomach upsets.

Therefore, most doctors do not prescribe antibiotics for most cases of sore throat or tonsillitis.

An antibiotic may be advised if the infection is severe, if it is not easing after a few days, or if your immune system is not working properly (for example, if you have had your spleen removed, if you are taking chemotherapy, etc).

Things to look out for

In nearly all cases, a sort throat or tonsillitis clears away without leaving any problems. The conditions below are uncommon, but for the sake of completeness are mentioned here.
Possible complications

Sometimes the infection can spread from the throat or tonsils to other nearby tissues. For example, to cause an ear infection, sinus infection or chest infection.
Infectious mononucleosis (glandular fever)

Infectious mononucleosis is caused by a virus (the Epstein-Barr virus). It tends to cause a severe bout of tonsillitis in addition to other symptoms. See separate leaflet called 'Glandular Fever' for more details.
Quinsy - also known as peritonsillar abscess

Quinsy is an uncommon condition where an abscess (a collection of pus) develops next to a tonsil due to a bacterial infection. It usually develops just on one side. It may follow a tonsillitis or develop without having had tonsillitis. The tonsil on the affected side may be swollen or look normal, but is pushed towards the midline by the abscess next to the tonsil. Quinsy is very painful and can make you feel very unwell. It is treated with antibiotics, but also the pus often needs to be drained with a small operation.
Other uncommon causes of throat or tonsil infections

Other infections can sometimes cause a sore throat or tonsillitis. For example, a thrush infection of the throat, or certain sexually transmitted infections.
Non-infective causes of sore throat

An allergy such as hay fever can cause a sore throat. A sore throat can be the first symptom of throat cancer (but this is rare and mainly affects older smokers).
Are you taking carbimazole?

Carbimazole is a medicine that is used to treat an overactive thyroid gland. If you are taking carbimazole and develop a sore throat then you should have an urgent blood test. This is because a sore throat may be the first warning of a serious side-effect to carbimazole (agranulocytosis - which is a low level of white blood cells). This serious side-effect needs urgent treatment. Rarely, agranulocytosis occurs as a side-effect of various other medicines.

The 'take home' message is ... see a doctor if symptoms of a sore throat are severe, unusual, or if they do not ease within 3-4 days.

sorry if this is over kill but a little bit of information :D

Thanks. Well, no head ache besides the way I've been holding my jaw to keep from agitating my tonsils. They're a bit big, but from what I can see there are no spots but they look kinda ragged. No fever so that's good. I've done nothing but drink because it hurts worse if it's dry and I have to swallow. Today is the fourth day, I suppose I should be getting a little worried about it.

I use a personal account, but I have only sold on half.com

Do Contact Lenses have numbers printed on them?

While I was putting my contacts in one day, I noticed a small something on one of them. I tried rubbing the lenses (as directed by my eye doctor) to try and remove it, thinking it was lint of dust. But it didn't go away. It was barely visible but at a closer look it appeared to look like numbers and letters.

Could it possibly be a serial number or something?

EDIT: The numbers where around the outer edge stretching about 1/6 of the lens.

Yes they do. No idea what is actually written on them cos the writing is too small for my eyes to focus on and you just have to get them in the right light to really see it.

There is some writing on mine too. You get funny looks if you try to read it while wearing the lenses...

Yes, they have information about the lens on it. I wear torics for astigmatism, and they also have a little tic mark for registering the contact with the angle of your astigmatism. The optometrist can check to make sure the lens rotates to the proper orientation.

On a vaguely related note, I was astounded to learn from a recent episode of How It's Made that they individually lathe each and every contact lens out of billet plastic. I always assumed they were molded in huge batches or something.

I remember seeing that show a few years ago. I kept saying "that's so stupid, yet so cool."

I wear contacts from time to time, next time I'll try to read the numbers on mine. I've never noticed!

They do that, I assume, to maintain precision?

I always wanted to try contact-lenses. Now's the time, I guess, as my glass lens is getting unclear and the frame is warped from the last 6-7 years.. In which case - the old reuseable ones, or the daily ones?

I wear monthly disposables and I would never go back to regular non-disposable lenses. In fact, I clean mine with peroxide once a week (with a little kit) and I can easily make 6 pairs last a whole year, while still being more comfortable, and for about the same price.

My life is sooo much better for having my eyes cut on and worth the risk with the success I have had. Obiviously that wouldn't be the case had things been different. It really is an amazing process.
