What I meant was if your face was just too close to the steering wheel.

I think my driving position is normal; arms slightly flected, legs in a way that I have a small slack when I press the clutch all the way down, and I don't like the seat leaned back as it's painful on my back and feels unnatural.
Of course, while driving karts (slower than the ones you mentioned) it's entirely different, as there's no adjustments whatsoever.
 
It doesn't matter what your driving position, when an airbag goes off it is going to hurt you somehow. Either by smacking into your face or by burning your arms.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't. I'm 1m82, with a very healthy driving position. An airbag just isn't a fluffy pillow, it's the lesser of two evils - the more evil being your solid steering wheel. :crazy:

A small price to pay, considering your face and arms will still be attached to your body.
 
Which reminds me to ask: What is it about driving-positions that many female drivers (I'm focusing on young drivers, my age who just started driving) tend to sit very close to the wheel, while males seem to drive as far away from the wheel as they can?
 
I think the closer driving position ensured that women could generate more force by turning the steering wheel closer to the body, or it was that this position in some way made longer driving stints easier (or so Phil Walters said). This close position also allows for a better view of the road, which is important for some female drivers (thus they purchase large vehicles, for the position among other reasons).

Men, in the meantime, tended to share no such desire and perhaps this reclining driving position evolved from the seating positions of various sportscar drivers or sportscars, or possibly from the 1960s F1 cars, where this position was popular for improved aerodynamics and ergonomics.
 
The young females do it because they can't see over the flippin' wheel, and don't know how to work the wheel & seat position.

And the young males do that so they think they're ballin'...in their Eclipse...with the fake-arsed spoiler trying to look Matte Black....

That's pretty much what I suspected with boys - something with the "racey" seating-position.

I just thought that, well, sitting close enough for the breasts to actuate the horn is a tad dangerous in a crash?


Perhaps the close position is also a thing of confidence - "keep your enemies closer"? :p

Aircraft seem a bit extraneous considering the suits... I cannot answer that.

It isn't. It's a matter of education.

I, for one, always leave the lid closed. Many men don't over here, but I guess that's down to their habits - I've noticed Germans leave the lid down far more.

You are quite correct. I was merely illustrating that an airbag will injure you when it goes off, not that it's a bad thing considering it may well save your life. I suspect some people are under the illusion that in a crash where the airbag is deployed, they may get off scot free.

Usually is, imo.
I believe the 'education issue' is overrated.
Men have to lift it, women have to lower it. It's the way things are, not fair for one of the genders (men) having to both lift and lower the seats.

You have to pay more attention to the road and memorize the track like the back of your hand.

Airbags are designed to function in conjunction with the seat belt.
In all honesty, I find it just stupid to drive without a seatbelt to begin with, and people that have a car with airbags and don't wear seatbelts, on some occasions, probably be better off without the airbag.

I had no idea, but it can't be compared to the actual show.
I remember in school everyone (boys mostly) tried to mimic the Cylons' voices. :lol:

It's too broad to narrow it down to one technique.
The one I think can be applied to more cases is:
"don't be a wimp, take it like a man"

Yes. The solid explosive is designed to expel a certain amount of gas, which will dissipate into the atmosphere through the fibre mesh of the bag. I suppose if you assumed the cabin was completely airtight and no-one opened the doors, then maybe no.
