Fanatec seem to have thrown their lot in with Porsche, perhaps in the belief that this will create a association of "quality" for their products. I'm not sure how much this adds to the cost of the Fanatec wheels, however, personally I would prefer an unbranded "generic" wheel, along the lines of the G25/27. Driving a variety virtual cars - especially vintage cars, or race cars - with a Porsche wheel always seems a bit odd to me.

So as a matter of free "market research" for Fanatec, here are the questions. Assuming equivalent quality:

a) Would you prefer a Fanatec wheel with Porsche branding?

b) Would you prefer a "generic" Fanatec wheel?

This has been discussed before in the another Fanatec wheel thread. Thomas/Fanatec said that they are thinking or developing a generic wheel. The extra license cost comes down at 3%, according Thomas.

I personally find the generic wheels ugly by design, even the ECCI looks like futuristic rubbish. As a Porsche driver I'm probably biased but I like the clean, serious look of their wheels and think from pictures the fanatec looks gorgeous, when my GT2 eventually arrives I guess I'll find out how it really compares.

I'd be happy if fanatec secured other manufacturers designs, Pagini or Mclaren wheel would be lovely ...

I agree^^^ really liking the Porsche GT2 branding. I think it might be cool if they did different editions on different years like as you said a McLaren wheel or a BMW wheel. Could be a cool niche and kind of make each model year a little exclusive. I might be tempted to collect different models lol.

Yeah exactly! I can see the despair in my fiancees face when I tell her the Bugatti Fanatec wheels out "but you already have a Lotus, Maserati and Porsche wheel!!!"

I think they'd sell a shed load by doing a deal with a few different brands.

I agree with them. I know there are a lot of people who want a generic wheel but IMO the branded wheels look much classier. I don't really notice the branding while I'm racing but when I'm not racing and I see the wheel just sitting there IMO the Turbo S looks much nicer than the G27/G25/DFGT. Plus people who come over think it's cool just because it has a Porsche logo (brand whores ).

Not that I don't think Fanatec should produce a generic one, I just prefer branded.

Thomas did say once that the Porsche branding doesn't reflect in the price to much. I don't mind what the branding is as long ass the wheel is good. Which for Fanatec they are great.

I don't mind the Porsche branding. Makes me feel proud when I can play with a wheel that is pretty much a reproduction of the GT3 Porsche wheel without spending tons of money on a real Porsche. I have to say, the wheel looks a ton better than my car.

Yes, I remember discussing it at the time the first Fanatec wheels came out. Hopefully I didn't post a poll at that time also?! :nervous:

No question the Fanatec wheels look very good. I think the G25 also looks very good - in a completely different way. IMO the G27 is a bit odd looking with the rows of red buttons on the wheel. If it's true that the licensing costs only amount to 3%, that's not a very significant cost factor.

I like my GT3 RS wheel for contemporary road cars. For race cars or vintage cars it seems inappropriate in a way that the G27, with its aggressively stripped-down look does not.

So what you need for your classic cars is the Fanatec 550 Spyder wheel, wood rimmed with a 17inch diameter lol! I'd buy one, what do you reckon Thomas?

i also prefer a generic wheel, design wise i am not quite into street car type wheel for my sim racing routine ;-)

something like this will make me happier:

I forgot to mention. I prefer a generic wheel but without the Porsche license, there's no Xbox 360 license.

Well I personally love the look, feel, and idea of a beautiful licensed wheel. And as I said it would be cool to see some other models. A limited edition Bugatti wheel? I'd pick that up in a sec! Mercedes, Audi R8, McLaren any of those would also be awesome.

I'd like to see a Wartburg and trabant wheel. It's probably less expensive than a Porsche wheel. :sly:

The branding has the advantage of the "controler" wheel being the very ergonomic and easy to manipulate Porsche shaped wheel. This counts for a lot.

I wuld hate the "generic" wheel to be an F1 style wheel.

I would like the generic offering to just use a universal hub and not include a wheel, I would then just go buy a Sparco race wheel or better yet just put ona quick release hub and use the Sparco wheel I have in my real trackday car LOL.
