Hey everybody,

just heard in the news, that Germany wants to limit their "Autobahn" with 120-130km/h limit!!!:scared:  :guilty:
Been to Germany quit a few times, and will go there in about 2 weeks again!
Germany is the only country in the world with UNLIMITED parts of the Autobahn.
The reason why they want to limit it, is because of the polution the cars produce...:yuck:

What ya guys think about that? In my opinion...if you wanna help the earth's enviroment, then drive slowly.

Chris

It's OK for me, I actually don't care. Everyone acts like you go to Germany to drive at ridiculous speeds while most of us don't even own a car which goes over 200 km/h...+ the fact that cars at those speeds use enourmous amounts of fuel, it would be dumb to think to unlimited speed rule would be kept forever :dunce:

So I actually don't care...Most of us never even come into Germany + it's only small parts of Germany where the unlimited speed rule is being used so it makes me want to not care more...

understand you guys totally, but like in my situation, i dont get to come to germany that often, so when i'm there i have a Benz E320cdi and i like to max it out when i'm on tour.

Btw, speedlimit over here is 100-120km/h :(

The unlimited Autobahn has got a pretty good safety record so maybe the more pertinent question is...

Why fix it if it isn't broken?

Speed limits were also recently introdced in Australian unlimited roads (In the Northen Territory). :(

I think they are 140km/h now.

Apart from that ... if the Germans introduce speed limits, what's the point in having Germany? :p

They make some of the best cars around?

Keep in mind, fellow Americans that 130 km/h is about 84 mph. Those europeans get to go way faster than us, but I think American drivers are moving faster in the end.

Enviromental issue? The best way to improve the environment IMO is to regulate industrial pollution. Germany could do so much more that way then getting rid of the autobahn. Besides, there aren't too many people that travel above that 130 km/h limit, are there? In France, loads of people are probably around 110 to 120.

That was one of my life dreams, drive the autobahn at full throttle and to drive the 'Ring. It is safer than US interstates, and with a lack of SUVs doing 80 to 85 mph, i'm sure the German autobahn is much more eco-friendly than the average US highway.

You know in the end it comes down to big whigs and who they can point a finger at. I mean like philly said there are many more things that can help the eco besides doing away with the bahn. But think about it, less suvs hybird cars, the big guys dont want that so they look to the one thing that doesnt affect them and make up some way that it might seem like it is helping the eco but is only trying to make themselves look better. JUnk i say, it has also been a dream of mine to go unlimited speed on the bahn, if that gets ruined for me then im not sure what will be left.

Some other new news (at least for me) are that Germany now only allows cars to enter specific cities, if their car doesnt produce to much of Co2 or whatever.
That means, if my E320 disel car isnt it in the limit for....let say berlin, i wont be able to enter that city with my car.

Whats up with Germany and their "We must safe the world"???

It was a rethorical question.

Thar's partly correct. It is correct that when entering a pollution zone, you must have a badge on your car which says how environmentaly friendly it is. If it is okay, you may pass, if it is too dirty, you may not. However, there have been no pollution zones establishd yet, and they say it'll happen 2008 at the earliest.

Well, it's the green iditos taking the thing over. All the standard politics has become worse over the decades, therefor, smaller parties like the green one have become more powerful.

The thing they currently are discussing has to do with particulate matter, generated by cars. In certain areas, the amount has topped the allowed maximum several times a year, that's where they want to make those pollution zones. Happily, they also found out that when checking in a pub with smokers, you won't have a problem finding the limit for particulate matter topped 400 (!!!) times.

This green 🤬 pretty much 🤬 me off, because they do not only spoil all the fun and make my life more expensive, they also don't know what they're talking about. They just hear "particulate matter causes cancer" and the ban all driving and limit the autobahns, without recognising that there are much worse polluters than cars.

Why are you so surprised? There's already speed limits on it to begin with and it's not like you get to actually hit that "unlimited" limit.

There's too much traffic during certain days and certain parts are just too risky to speed, anyways.

Indeed, probably the only places where you see nearly no traffic must be in nowhere Germany :dunce:

There's probably been talk of giving the Autobahn a limit since they were opened. There'll always be people that will want to introduce a limit, it's just now they have a reason that can be backed up with statistics.

Germany is the only country in the world with UNLIMITED parts of the Autobahn.
The Isle of Man has mostly unlimited roads. However, they aren't highways, more like A/B roads.

in 2005 i travelled alot with my car in germany, and those parts which were unlimited, i could speed nicely and safe.
And when i talk about using the unlimited parts of the Autobahn i'm talking about speed in the range of 180-230km/h, i could do more, but thats only if its 3way lane and no traffic!:)

isle of man is unlimited? well, but i guess you cant speed as good as on the autobahn :dopey:
