I think the biggest lesson learned would be bodily harm. Break their right foot in 2 places and theyll never race again, plus they have to pay for medical treatment (more $$ for the Gov) and they're 40G car isnt wasted. A broken right foot would certainly leave a cheap lasting impression in their mind...hehehe.

I still don't see why people are against crushing the cars of street racers. This is a problem in our society, and this is a very effective solution since it targets the offenders in a way that will deeply effect them, and will likely make them never race again (at least on the streets) since they will want to avoid the pain of having their prized posession getting destroyed. I guarantee you, this will work. A couple of idiots will try and beat the cops, and their cars will be crushed. People will get the message, and street racing will be virtually non-existent (Everything short of the death penalty will not keep a very small number of paticularily dim-witted individuals from street racing).

either that or theyll all move out of LA and fill other places like Miami or Fort Worth Texas (home of the worlds most police chases per year and per capita per year)...thats where the excitement is! But seriously, if theyre doing that with street racers, why not do something similar to drunk drivers? why not like...fill their driver seat with cement or something? then theyd have to pay a construction or body repair/collision place and support local business to get it all removed...i mean crushing a car will sure as hell get the point across but maybe the point is a little too sharp? just my opinion. lets hear some more.

Woah...Why not crush the nearby houses then..?

Why not kill the damm world?!?

YES, the death penalty should be given to street racers! you street race you die !

lol. "You steal bread, i chop hand. Ha. Ha. Ha." ...oh wait they already do that..
:ouch:

What do you expect from a person living in a country once ruled by a man who hid underground with 5 identical body doubles and took away all his citizens rights and freedoms...USA?

I don't think it's harsh. I think it's smart. People maybe will realize that street racing is not a leisure activity. I'm happy they destroy their cars.

Why do people think the punishment is harsh? I think it's a great law, it sends a direct message to the morons who street race. Don't want your car to get crushed? The answer is simple, DON'T STREET RACE. Have a need for speed? Visit a dragstrip, autocross, or a track day. For the rest of the time, I think any half decent motorist can show some discipline and obey the traffic laws that are in place for a reason. If a person can't show some discipline, they should not be able to drive. Simple as that IMO.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I would have to agree with you there Ev0! :O I want to add to your compliment.

Street racing is against the law and we all know that. When you break a law, you get punished and it is that simple. The public street is for driving from one place to another. The public street is not a racetrack ro a dragstrip. Too many people are abusing what the REAL purpose of a public road is meant for and seem to dont care much for why the LAW is so important. Without the law, US wouldn't be a safe place to be at and many have underestimated the idea of rules and the law.

The law is meant to protect everyone and if you decide to abuse it, then they will abuse your very own rights. Abuse the public streets, and we abuse your car!

And although we can compare statistics of how many deaths on the streets involves street racing, many have said that the number is sooo little compared to drunk driving and such...as if those small number of street racing deaths is like "heh, only like 50 people died from street racing out of 10 million deaths on the street." So... 50 people who died from street racing out of that LARGE number total deaths on the streets is TOO small of a number to be considered important? :odd: I just dont understand how some can just say that if a little number of people die from an accident is very small compared to other larger problems, then that small problem shouldnt be talked about because "c'mon its just only like 1% of the deaths, why do they gotta give such a hard punishment."

i think you said something and brought some stuff up about adding to his comment...but you didnt make much of a point...all you did was restate what many of us thought. Also, yes i agree with harsh punishment on streetracers, but honestly, there are so many bigger issues out there...and yes im going to use drunk drivers as an example, and this is because there are so many of them and so many fatalities because of them. Most often with street racers, its the racers themselves who get killed (well like 90% of the time anyway), whereas drunk drivers are more likely to speed (yes like a street racer) but have NO control over their car, and are also easily distracted by bright lights and making them more prone to crash into something shiny like lets say..oh, i dunno...an innocent motorist? Anywho i just think Arnold has his head stuck up his a$$ and should focus on more important matters. :dunce:

I cant' believe that the majority of people on this website actually think that this law is a good idea. How can any real car enthusiast think it's ok to crush a car just for punishment? Street racing is dangerous, but there are much worse crimes out there. Besides, wouldn’t you just get reimbursed anyway from insurance?

No **** there are alot more dangerous crimes out there but do you really expect to have a solution for every single crime?

Why not? If they make it a crime, they should have a punishment for it that is in line with the severity of the crime.

Only one at a time. Plus you have to also get these punishment suggestions passed in some cases they aren't.

How in gods name did car-crushing get passed then?! Even worse, its not actual crushing..theyre just flattenning it! ...poor cars...even street racers dont deserve that...not to mention the waste of money and hard work...once again a broken foot does more than get the message across lol

What do you mean passed? When a law is made, the severity level for breaking the law is passed along with it. Judging by the severity opens up different levels of punishment. It is up to the judge to decide what level of punishment to enact.

so he said "crush his car!" ???? that hardly seems fair unless like ran over a family of duckies and plowed into a lady's house.

Firstly, why are people criticizing this law because drunk driving is a bigger problem in society? Crushing the cars of drunk drivers would not be as effective, since they don't share a bond with their car like most street racers do, so there would be little to no psychological impact, which is the entire point of crushing the cars of street racers. And, I would love to see an effective method to end drunk driving, but unfortunately it is a much more complicated and widespread issue. As long as irresponsible people are allowed to drive, we will always have drunk drivers.

And secondly, I think this thread is a good example of how society is becoming more and more lenient with people who break the law. If you break the law, you deserve to be punished in accordance with the severity of your crime. In my opinion, any crime which involves endangering human life, such as street racing, deserves a harsh punishment. And, in the case of crushing the car of a street racer, I think it is a perfect punishment for the crime. It will hit the racers right where it hurts, and it will force them to find a legal place to race.

Destruction of personal property as punishment is bad, but is here is something even more retarded. You can acculy get punished as a spectator to a street race.

I love this person.

Crushing the car is more effective than seizing it and auctioning it. This makes sure some other "street-racer" doesnt purchase it and use it in the same crime.

Funny you mention that. In Ontario right now there is a big debate over whether or not to continue to auction off property (with potential for a legitimate use obviously) seized in drug raids, since police just raided a marijuana grow op that had all it's equipment purcahsed at a police auction!

The purpose of the law and it's punishment system is to reform the person and make sure that they don't commit the crime again. You can't drive drunk without a car, therefore - problem solved. How amazing. Also, how can someone legally race their car when it's crushed? The punishment is not equal to the crime. You cannot argue with that.

Another point would be, if the person who owns the car that got crushed, was so concerned about racing legally, his car wouldnt have been crushed in the first place =)

Regardless, the punishment does not = the crime.

No it is no too harsh, no matter how good of a driver you may think you are, there is nothing you can do if a kid drives his bike onto the road, or someone trips off of the curb....it may be fun as hell, but it is not worth the risk !

You don't need to street race to knock into a 'kid who drives his bike onto a road' or 'if someone trips off the curb'.

Back on topic, crushing a car for street racing is blatant wastage. 👎

I agree. The purpose of the law and punishment system is to reform the person so they don't commit another crime. That is why crushing street racers cars is effective. Not only won't they have any car to race with, they will also have to deal with the loss of their prized possesion not only psychologically, but also in terms of money. And to those who think street racing isn't a serious crime, think for a second. It endangers human life. Not only are the lives of the participants endangered, but more importantly, the lives of people not involved in any way with the race are endangered simply because they are at the wrong place at the wrong time. I know street racing is not as dangerous as drunk drivers in terms of fatalities, but that is not important. If you can save just one or two lives every year through this law, why the hell would you not implement it?

Crushing the cars of drunk drivers might be a good idea now that I think of it. It would not have as big an effect on many of the drivers who commit the crime, but it would send a very strong message.

Drunk driving amongst teenagers would probably drop drastically, since I think mom and dad would be fairly pissed off if they found out their minivan has to be crushed into a cube because little Jimmy had a few beers before driving himself home.

And of course, some people just wouldn't care about the law. Lots of drunk drivers already drive with suspended licences, or without any licence. So they likely wouldn't care too much about about a crushing law.

By effective, don't you mean excessive!? :sly:

It's simply not at all necessary to get the point across. It more than likely won't even impact street racing so it's really just a waste.

I like this law but they should extend it a bit. Hit the drunk drivers as well since, after all, they're responsible for even more traffic fatalities than the racers. Both habits are equally dangerous for everyone on the road so why not punish them both the same way?

edit: i didn't read through all the posts... i'm guessing someone already mentioned this?
