Get Gold for discount and then let Gold expire?

Can I Get one month of Gold and then buy Blizzard expansion and Forza 6 car packs at a Gold discount, and then let Gold expire and continue to use the blizzard and Forza 6 car packs?

Yes, the only time you run into issues after your Gold expires are the free "Games with Gold" games.

You used to be able to actually just get a free month of xbl to the associated account if you'd log into your account at www.xbox.com and go to your settings. This was a couple of years ago though so I don't know what has changed.
