Getting a Cell Phone...

That phone is okay. Personally, I don't use my cell phone like I would my home phone, so a prepaid cell works fine for me. Look at Virgin Mobile phones. I have the "Slider" phone, which is uber-cool.

Assuming that your parents are going to pay for this and that you're not going to talk all that much, it'd be best to see if your parents' service provider gives a family plan. You can save a lot of money doing that. Since me and my mom do that, and we don't talk too much, 1000 minutes a month is perfect. I got a decent Nokia color phone, too.

But, only you know what works for you. 👍

I really want to get the family plan like Giancarlo said, but my dad wants the Fido deal, unlimited everything for $45 a month. :indiff:

I'm 14 and I don't really need it, so I don't see how he would. But some parents want to be able to contact there child when there gone somewhere.

I can't imagine having a cell phone at 12. I mean I see where it is possible now, but I look back at myself when I was 12 and I was still outside after school playing in dirt. Heck I didn't get a pager till I was 16. I am getting to old.

Well...I'm not exactly like all the other kids my age. I ride my bike all the time and hate having to ride 30 minutes from a friends house to tell my parents I'm going somewhere. With a phone in the summer...I could ride 8 hours a day without going home. I'm weird like that. Oh well. I kind of like that slider phone. I like the Sprint I posted better though.

I would stick to a plan that doesn't suck though. Sprint sucks in Wisconsin, and since it's got a pretty big hub here, that's pretty sad. We used to have it, and lost service going from our house to our neighbors. It's a crappy service overall. I'd go with T-Mobile, if I were you. I have driven across the US and maybe have lost the signal twice the whole route from Seattle, WA to Charlestown, NH. Those two times were when I was crossing the border into and out of Canada. I still had service in Canada, just not on the border.

Are you trying to get this thread closed?! Seriously...you suck. If people want to vote then they will. If not...they won't. Back to topic please everyone. If I don't get that...I'm getting a NEXTEL. My dad had Sprint and it was a lot better than any of the others he's tried. (read "Verizon, 360 which is now Verizon, sprint, and now nextel. I don't really like Cingualar or T-Mobile as the people I know that have one of those don't like them. They don't get good reception in our area....

That original phone you posted is the one I have currently. It's a pretty fun phone considering its got a camera on it AND an LED flashlight which is excellent when I'm trying to find the keyhole in my car.

If you can't get added onto a family plan, and you don't plan on using the phone very much, I'd suggest going with Virgin Mobil – not because the phones are great, but because they offer pay-as-you-go, which is infinitely cheaper than a "real" plan. Basically, you pay $20 every three months, which comes out to less than $7 a month. It's a real bargain, and it's nice to know that you're not attached to the plan by any contract.

Standard, you're obviously a mature 12-year old, who has a legitimate reason for wanting a cellphone. Some of us older folks get a little pissed off when we see punks with their pants around their ankles and their hats on crooked talking on a cellphone, because there's no need for it. But you've got a good reason, and you can type properly, so I hereby give you the right to own a cellphone!

Also, be sure to drive your Excursion, alone, through midday traffic while talking on the cell phone. Do it every time you can.

I figure if so many women down here do it, then so should everyone else. People who drive sedans don't deserve to live anyway.

I don't suppose you've ever thought of asking your friend to use their phone. Have you? I'm sure they'd let you.

I still don't see, why that phone looks like a fish. It's beyond me.

That is a good phone though and I know that it has a camera, so no ametuer pr0n mmmkay..... Nah. Nokia is a good brand. I have a Siemens.

I'm 17 and I still really don't need my phone. I only use it for Txt/SMS. Only like 1 a month I get a call or make a call.

Thanks for that. Yeah...I wear baggy shorts but not down that low. If I want thigns like that..I'll buy jeans. That is just stupid. My parents are getting rid of the home phone. The reason this is happening is it never gets any use and 5 days ago I was home alone while my parents went somewhere. My dad had his and my mom had hers. I was left with no phone as she had disconnested the landline. I brought that up with my dad and he decided to get me one for X-Mas. To everyone who has said I don't need one or a 12 year old doesn't need one...correction. I know a lot of my friends who have one and don't need it. I do need it. Oh well. I've gone on long enough. What I'm getting at with this thread is I want a good phone and I'm open to suggestions.

Yes sadly enough. There's a kid in my gym class who is 14 and was held back twice.(once in 6th grade and once in 7th) He Has no shoe laces and his pant drp 3/4 the way down his ass. Quite funny. Did I mention he smokes weed and got his friend sent to Juvenile hallfor a while. So...anyone got any other good phones I should consider. Preferably Sprint.

I'm a gangster.

I wear Sean John pants upto my knees, and I wear a shirt upto my knees. My chain's thicker than my arm. My earring is bigger than my brain. Ohh yeah.

I'm going to start off with: I'm 12 years old and getting my first Cell Phone for Christmas. I'm looking at the Sprint PCS phones. I found a cool phone for $20 with rebates. Is this a good phone to get?

Nah, go with the Motorala V120 with Verizon's services. You'll never* have a 'no signal' :)

*Excludes long tunnels, deep basements and anything else underground, in the ocean, or any place where cell phone reception is guaranteed to be zero no matter what service.

I've got to voice my support of Nextel. Where I live, everyone - and I mean everyone - has a Nextel. I've enjoyed awesome service and signal strength all around the country, and I've never been with a non-Nextel customer who has had service when I didn't.* But the best thing about Nextel is the 2-way Direct Connect feature. For your family who needs to communicate with you quickly and easily, DC cannot be beat, and there is no limit to the amount of time that you talk on it. I don't think I've ever talked more than 50 minutes a month on the "real" phone, because I'm always 2-waying everyone. I think my phone actually has 80 some hours of direct connect minutes on it, and it never cost me a thing. 👍 :)

*Just to be perfectly honest, I was in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and a Cellular One phone had service when mine didn't. But that's expected since I was probably thousands of miles away from the nearest Nextel tower.

I'd get Nextel, if only to support my 2nd favoirte sport, but it's expensive around here. Anyway, for tri-state signal strength nothing tops Verizon.
