I looked into getting a wheel, and although the DFGT seemed decent, the shifter wasn't what I was looking for, however cheap it was. So then I found the G27, looked up reviews on youtube and elsewhere, and then looked for it for sale over the internet. It's going to be here by thursday and I got it for >$260. I'm planning to use it for GT5, GT6, Dirt 3, NFS:MW, and later, I hope it's compatible with the Ps4's USB, and I'll be using it then for The Crew, Drive Club, and NFS: Rivals. Have I made the right choice?

If not, when I get it, how could I improve on what I have (mods, etc) to better my experience?

You made a good choice for the price, I don't think anyone will really disagree.

There's a lot of existing threads about G27 on here. First basic mod? Upgrade the brake pedal spring, either GTEye or Nixim, both are also reviewed in this forum.

More mods if you feel so inclined... http://www.chilicoke.com/mods.htm

G27 is great wheel with all pc game and ps3 game ...... but . with GT5 i have problem.

I have a G27 for GT5 ok it did have couple of problems with the game but like everything else you just have to get use to it.

I like pie.

Oh, and nice choice, I ran a G27 for a couple years, it never had an issue.

A lot of people don't like the load cell Because pedal doesn't have enough travel

Grab the AP Electrix Loadcell Mod for the brake pedal, far better than those overpriced springs on offer elsewhere.

The current price of that modification is...?

I did send them an enquiry early last year, but I think I discarded the idea as the price seemed too much in comparison compared to the improvement offered by the spring replacement.

It says so on the linked website you just quoted.

What problems did you guys have?

The steering wheel shakes a bit when you go down the straight at high speed when not holding onto the wheel. But if you hold onto the wheel it is not much of problem this only happens when playing GT5.

Pretty sure that's the force feedback trying to make it more realistic... Faster you go, more it shakes? lol I'm always going to be driving off balanced cars now? xD

The G27 steering wheel has a deadzone problem with GT5.

I heard the one on the DFGT was a lot worse. At least I didn't get that one? lol

You be very happy with the G27 the deadzone is a minor issue. I had my G27 for 6 months and I used it every night

My opinion? Don't use it with NFS:MW .. navigating the menus sucked, I couldn't even change the wheel settings.. It's a dream to use .. but on other games.

I tried it with NFS:Mw and it worked just fine. I changed all the controls to suit my liking. I ran into that little problem where it seems you can't change it, but really you have to tap the selection button (what I assume to be X near the d-pad), and rapidly press the button you want the action assigned to.

Now I'm having a problem on GT5 where my clutch pedal isn't working and I could just move the shifter to select gears.... However I think that's just because I had my controller plugged in when I turned it on. I'll check later. Yay warranty!

The clutch can be overridden in gt5 so you can change with the shifter just like using the paddles. You can then use the clutch to select a gear and change mode.

Except I don't know how it happened. xD

Could you explain exactly where this deadzone is? I have not experienced a deadzone with the G27.

It's exactly in the center with about a 2-3 in width where the force feedback doesn't affect your steering.

Exactly. There is play or "looseness" in the G27 when the wheel is centered. The DFGT is much worse, but it is irritating on the G27 also.

I think the worse thing about the G27 is the very short pedal travel. #2 worse thing is the weak brake pedal. I got the Nixxim mod and still don't think it is that great (though much better than stock).

I also swapped the original brake or clutch spring — whichever one was stiffer — to the gas pedal for better resistance. The pedal travel is just too short though, I am looking into upgrading to a better wheel/pedal set.

Nice. I don't much mind it. I drive an automatic irl and I find the stock springs close enough... I don't actually know how far the pedals are supposed to travel because I never floored it... lol The brake pedal on the G27 is actually stiffer than the ones in the car I drive... But that's probably because our brakes aren't exactly new.

I started with the DFGT and then onto the G27 at Christmas. For the money ($220CDN) I don't think you can get anything better. It's a dramatic leap from the DFGT, much quieter, much smoother, better feedback, far better paddles, and better pedals. Also comes with a shifter but I've rarely used it so far. I did have a problem with the G27 however with the wheel going off centre after a couple of laps. Started out happening just slightly but got worse and worse, to the point where I had a hard time completing a 4 or 5 lap race without the wheel being 90 degrees off centre. I returned it to Best Buy for a replacement and so far so good, but I know it's a fairly common problem. Happened to another guy I race with after a couple of years.
