Looks very good, although I'd swap the power supply for a Seasonic model (very reliable, pretty silent and very efficient, and you don't really need 550W). And do you need a Raptor HDD? The new AAKS HDDs from Western Digital are very fast 7.200 rpm drives, which means you would get away much cheaper and with much more space, and just a little slower. Apart from that, the Raptor makes more noise and gets warmer, which means more cooling, which means even more noise.

Parting out a computer 3-4 months ahead of time is pretty much pointless, especially right now. In 3-4 months time, many new things will be out or close to being out, such as a new line of Intel Chips (Penryn, I think), a new Intel Chipset (X38), and possibly Nvidia Geforce 9-series. Not to mention a whole new line of AMD chips.

Thats kind of the point, the good stuff will be cheap(er)

Then I might be able to afford a quad core....

For 860 then you could build a better system that is with the times that would beat the system you could build now for 860. Those parts you have picked out will be probably around 600 then, which would be low end, but why buy old technology? There will be new CPU's for cheap that would rival what you have now. Same with video cards.

Hmm, I missed that "within 3-4 months" part before. On that basis, I'd really rather wait like menomena recommended. On the other hand, things like RAM are as cheap as it gets right now, and they're slowly starting to climb again...

DDR3 is on the horizon. I doubt it will be cheap, fast, and mainstream in only 3-4 months, but give it a year and there's a good possibility. But, RAM prices stay pretty much constant, so just keep your eye out for a good deal on some Corsair, OCZ, or Crucial memory.

Good to hear:tup: When I was building a PC on tigerdirect, they wanted to charge me 170 dollars for 2 gigs of DDR2 (4200) ram.

I really like the graphics card, and plan on hooking it up to 2 TVs via DVI->HDMI

Something doesn't sound right there... 4200 speed? Are you sure it wasn't just DDR? Regular DDR is expensive nowadays. Don't go any less than 5300. Aim for 6400.

:drool::drool::drool::drool:

Sorry, I said 4200, but it was really 6400:

I have used one of my friends computer that had a raptor in it and I loved it, I just went for the idea of having a raptor because I fell in love with it. But As you mentioned something about another drive from WD, the AAKS series. Im not sure if this was the dive that you mentioned, but here it is anyway:

It even LOOKS like a raptor!

Also, I was looking for a case on newegg also, ans saw this:

Yeah that's it. You might also be interested in this review: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/07/06/record-making_hard_disk/index.html

There will be a night and day difference between the 8600 and the 8800. Go for the 8800GT.

8800GT it is then. I was looking at this one and I think I might be able to get it cheaper at work. Ill have to see what the price is, since they keep it under lock and key and 2 video camera's. max ill do is 315 out the door.

EDIT- I can get it for 255, but theres only a few left. I hope no one buys any

list also updated

Bump-o

Im looking into getting this bad boy

Hopefully I can get the G0 stepping and stay around 85c(B3) vs 65c(G0) and ill be on my way. so total build is looking around 800 bucks, depending how much my 8800 is going to cost me. As always, thoughts and suggestion are welcome

I wouldn't bother with the SLi motherboard. I've always been of the belief that the way video card technology is moving, unless you buy two GPUs now you'll just replace your old one with a better one later on anyway. I have the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L mobo myself and I love it. I'm only running a dual core on it, but it supports quad core and the upcoming 45nm (Penryn) processors.

I was also looking at this one too, and im at the limit on size, seeing that this board measures 12.0" x 9.6" and the biggest my case can handle is 12.0" x 9.6". Dont know how easy that will go in.

Also, in the fine print of the specs:

Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets.

So now I have to choose some other RAM. This is one hell of a jigsaw puzzle.

EDI: This seem to fit the bill:

It says the memory standard is 1066 (PC8500), but will 800 (PS6400 work on this board? Im assuming it will since most speeds are backwards compatable. If so, im leaning more towards the Gigabyte than the ASUS

Also, I will be overclocking my my cpu to about 3.0, but I don't think that I need anything higher than that.

Bump again.

Looking for a Good CPU cooler, I have my mind set on this one and im going to have some arctic silver 5 in there

Ive looked into water cooling a bit and it does seem like a god idea, but I don't have the money for it right now

Wish list updated in first post

-Well, price of course, seeing as im doing this on a budget

-Best performance, for the price

-Dont care about noise

Also, I was looking at this thing, but its HUUUUUUUGGGEEEEE:

Also, do you think that I will have to lap my CPU when it gets here?
