First off, I'm far from the best driver on this forum. I don't even use a racing wheel, just the standard PS3 controller. But I've been back and forth with how this game plays since reaching the "higher" levels, 26 A-Spec and 21 B-Spec.

There has been a lot of talk about how this game is sort of about driving all by yourself. In some cases I agree. If your car is really tuned/modded up, you'll often be racing so far in front of your competition that the experience isn't much like racing at all. On the other hand, there are times where an un-modded car will never catch the rabbit car in front. I see both sides of the situation. And then there's also the issue of being able to enter racing cars into events where the usual opponents are standard vehicles.

All of this goes to say that on the one hand, I'm trying to get a lot of really cool cars that cost around 4-5 million credits, and I also want both of the Ferrari F1 cars, so... I think it's fine to outmatch the competition if you want to just get your credits up to earn your next car.

But concerning racing, this past week I've turned off all assists, fully manual transmission, and the game has just taken on another level of enjoyment for me because it's actually a challenge which makes the wins I get mean a lot more. I also purchased an Audi R10 this week, which I find not to be a shoe-in on some events, even fully modded, and especially so now that I'm driving with no assists at all. Not to mention that driving in rainy conditions is a lot more difficult now.

So I guess the point of this is to say that I agree with several complaints about the way this game plays in the Career Modes, especially concerning the lack of events, but I think that if you are setting out to play it to enjoy racing it's hard to blame anyone but yourself in many cases if it feels too easy. Again, I'm not the best player in the world, but I'm definitely decent. So I know it's tempting to take a brand new Audi R10 and race it against Golfs, and while that's a guaranteed win, it's not always the best way to get the most out of the "racing" experience.

2 cents, I'm enjoying the game on another level now. Just an encouraging suggestion since it might be quite a while before GT6 comes around.

Cheers

I agree, I'm trying to figure out how to do no assists, no abs is by far the most challenging, and it will improve my skills the most removing those training wheels.

So doing low level races with even playing field with the AI has brought out some surprisingly intense position battles, and it is actually quite humbling to lose to my foolish brake locking and putzing myself across the finish line disappointed in my performance.

Yes, exactly. I had to be honest and ask myself if I didn't come in first due to my own error or something else. With assists off, if you don't make a mistake, you can win. It's all about consistency, much more like real racing.
