I absolutely LOVED Ghost Recon on XBox. In my opinion it is far more enjoyable than Halo - even more enjoyable than Halo 2. Unfortunately they didn't put the necessary features into the game - like four players on one XBox, or multiple players per XBox in linked or online mode. Never-the-less, the game play was stellar, story mode was a blast, and getting online with a bunch of kids from Jersey never failed to entertain me.

Ghost Recon 2 has some pretty sorry reviews. Apparently they've done more than make a sequal - they've essentially taken the name and applied it to a new game. A game that pales in comparison to the predasessor.

Has anyone here played Ghost Recon 2 on XBox? The PS2 version isn't out until the 1st of next month. Which by the way I wasn't impressed with Ghost Recon on PS2 the first time around.

played the second one. It's fantastic from a gameplay perspective, but it loses some of it's cool factor by cranking up the intensity and going all hollywood.

I always enjoyed the original's slower pacing and brutal sniping, now it's more of an all-out-war.

Still, give it a chance, it is a really great game. The graphics are great, the lone wolf mode is a blast, and co-op play is better than ever. Plus, there are even more kickass real-world weapons. And don't worry about it being too different: it basically controls the same, and if you don't like the new camera, you can set it to the original fps view, and even lock it there for everyone on your server.

Overall, I am very pleased with it. Not better than halo2, but not everyone thinks halo is the bees knees anyway.

edit: this game has freaking awesome sound. one of the best.

oh and one thing I can complain about is that the A.I. are total bastards. Now this wouldn't be such a bad thing if there weren't so many goddamn trees and bushes for them to hide behind, or if the old radar was still in the game. But goddamn, it's like trying to find and kill ants from 300 yards away. Stupid radar.

Oh look, a comparison to Halo 2. Didn't see THAT one coming.

I have to agree about the first one. Freaking amazing stuff. Even against the AI, sniping was a blast. And you've encouraged me to buy this damn game. I hate you now.

Before you buy, here are the negatives for GR fans:

Generally, I think I still prefer Island thunder, but this one is technically better in many ways. Perhaps it's just because I played the first a lot and it was a more fresh and innovative experience, comparatively.

Another small gripe I have is the lack of different reloading animations and accompanying sound effects. Ofc, I'm being extremely nit-picky, but one thing I noticed and really liked about the first one was that different weapons actually had different sounds for reloading. Like the M60, for instance, had that "kaching" followed by "ker-crack" as the box of linked casings was swapped. Now it's a generic "standard" sound, regardless of magazine type.

Also, the menu is big and "in your face". Some people like this (people that get confused by the first's), but I really miss the dramatic music and still shots of the ghosts.

The biggest complaint is the lack of proper squads and squad selection. They pulled a RS3 (xbox version) on this one. You don't get to switch squads (of which you only get 1!) or even switch between members, you don't get to outfit your ghosts, you don't have a choice of ghosts to choose from, and, so far, I haven't seen any specialists in the unlockables section. Specialists ruled, so I'm pretty miffed at that. Also, no more stat tracking or medals.

The mission briefings that were so cool and low-key are now replaced with lame news-documentary style video clips interviewing the ghosts. Again, like RS3, they're trying to give individual character to soldiers that should remain faceless bad-asses.

I think it's their new producer's fault, because whenever I've seen a developer interview, she kicks in and starts gushing about "how much more intense the game is compared to first" and how you "connect with the characters."

Voice-overs aren't as bad-ass, and radio banter can get out of hand sometimes and take you out of the setting.

Otherwise it's very fun and engaging, has sweet graphics and sound, decent A.I., awesome maps, and is a highly polished. Definitely kicks the crap outta SOCOM 2, and all other competitors.

16 people on the same team fighting against computer players? That could be cool stuff!!!

that would be 4 player co-op. online or system link. Sorry bud.

And to those still thinking this game should be compared to halo 2, read this:

"In fact, the jungle setting and the methodical, realistic gameplay actually make it more of a complement to Halo 2's fast-paced action rather than a direct competitor.

Though Ghost Recon purists may find a lot to complain about in the sequel's entertaining but admittedly relatively shallow single-player campaign, they should ultimately be mollified by the terrific multiplayer game. It hasn't been "dumbed down," but rather improved in every conceivable way."

So UBI Soft started hearing user reviews and paid off GameSpot? (:

I...don't know. Everybody seems to be paying off gamespot, or maybe they just don't know how to review games. For example, reading through the halo 2 review, you'd think they hated the game. then there's a score of 9.4 at the end. bizarre.

I rented this game not long ago. I like the graphics, explosions and weapon sounds along with the new over the shoulder view. The interview mission briefings were pretty damn lame and the AI was extremely retarded. One other thing that annoyed me was the lack of blood.
