The H1 was awesome, it actually made sense as an incredible off-road machine.
The H2 & H3 were just ridiculous.

Not that I could ever afford one, I did like seeing them around. Especially H2(since the original was already obsolete). Interesting looking trucks.

The H3 was sort of meh, but the original Hummer and the H2 were both capable off-road vehicles. It's just the H2 fell to "Yo Dawg Syndrome" and "Soccer Momitis" so it had a bad image. It was good when the road gave away though.

And it's probably for the best it was gone, they were a fad brand for the mid-late 90's and early 00's. Once those people moved on to something else their niche market dissolved.

Hm, your right: http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Datei:Hummer_H2_Automatik.JPG&filetimestamp=20080903002344
Without the chrome grill it actually looks pretty much like the H1, just a bit more "modern". The H1 is still the only one the world ever needed imo.

The sale of hummer falls through.

Gm and China unable to make a deal. Hummer is going down.

Good. Bye bye.

Admittedly it's sad that a few hundred workers will probably lose their jobs, but let's be honest here: were Hummer sales that fantastic anyway? Every model is made on a GM SUV production line, and to be honest I would have thought that most of the existing workforce would simply be redeployed onto producing Tahoes, Yukons and Colorados mere centimetres away. Had Hummer survived I doubt their jobs would be any securer. Unless the Chinese somehow redesigned them to be Prius-shaped.

Yes,sad because of the job losses :(. Your right,Hummer was GM's loss leader, sales were down.Hopefully GM can put this behind them and move on to another type / style of vehicle that may catch the publics eye better than this thing did.

As much as I hate to nitpick, that is false. :p
H1: It's own line (Not GM SUV)
H2: Tahoe/Yukon line (GM SUVs)
H3: Colorado/Canyon line (Not SUVs)

The H2 & H3 were just ridiculous.

While the H2 was arguably capable off-road, it was still just a Tahoe in a frock. The H1 was a purpose-made off-roading machine that could be fully submerged and still carry on.

It's awesome that you can pick up secondhand military ones here for a decent price... :D

The H3 is prettier than the H2, but still just a Chevy/Isuzu/whatever in a frock. Neither of the two newer Hummers ever made much sense from a style standpoint... and without room to grow downwards, the whole subcompany was doomed from the start.

Erm, actually you've got that backwards. The H3 was the only one that was decent off-road (mags liked it quite a lot after it got the V8), and the H1 and H2 were too big for their own good in most cases. Not to mention that at $100,000 and $50,000 respectively, the H1 and H2 weren't as likely to just be off-road toys.

The H3 was average, especially compared to something like a Wrangler. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The H2 was extremely capable off road, yes it was huge but so are Land Rovers and they hold their own just fine. The H2 obviously wouldn't work on a narrow trail but get it out in a muddy field and it'll be good.

Hummer is one of my favourite brands and I would be extremely sad to see it dissapear forever. There were quite a few concepts over the years which looked promising and I would hope that it could be kept alive in some form or another.

My favourite was the H2, best of the middle ground. Might get a Dodge Nitro one day to get my Hummer styling fix but in miniture!

Robin.

Now if the Military would finally decide on a replacement for the HMMWV, we could get rid of them all...

and they weren't dead already? I did not know this...

My neighbor has an H3, it's pretty nice except for the I5 engine is a dog. If I needed an SUV, I'd take an H3 Alpha in a heartbeat though.

My favorite Hummer video:

You can drive anything in a muddy field. Davesfarm has showed us that anything from japanese econoboxes to cut-up Buicks can drive in shallow mud like you find in fields...

as proof, a crappy FWD GM product.

Kind of bad news as in the future it will give me fewer people to point and laugh at for driving such a ridiculous vehicle / paying what they ask for one.
