Recently I got into a big debate whether its more common to go by time or ghost. I was told that most "pros" or pro rooms go by time. Even pinks are run by time and not ghost.

"Ghosting is a stupid way of racing" i was told and "time is the proper way and really only real way to race".

I'd like everyone to chime in on this.

I find some people's ideas on this game completely misleading and only spreads the wrong info to others.

I prefer by ghost cause a lot of people have their own of interpreting the time, most launch at .7 or others at .8 and I even seen them launch even at .5 which is annoying. I prefer the ghost its more accurate even though some like to guess it and like to jump.

You able to get online? And to answer the above question from my point; ghost for the win

Not right now, I'm heading out to work in a few. We got to do this, what's the time difference here is 6.37am.

1:46pm, almost a half a day....laughing out loud

Like c-losk said ghost. I hate it when you line up with someone, they say "go on 45", next thing you know they take off at 44.5. Now I'm still sitting there like, where did they learn to count. Am I the only one that takes off on time?

And as far as ghost launching, it seems like people have a hair trigger on the e-brake(or what I like to call "line lock") I was sitting in line waiting to stage and the people in front of me reset 14 times before they finally took off. And people wonder why I don't stay in rooms long!!!!! I have better things to do with my time, then watching y'all dance around.

We need a proper tree with a red light so if you jump bye-bye. IRL if you get a red light that's it for the run. Keep it at Indy just add a tree and a timing thing at the end, not to hard?

I know I went off topic, but this really does get annoying:crazy:

Come On New Year:cheers:

Well after reading this post it seems that ghosting is better for stimulating a real drag start. You don't exactly know when it's going to come and requres quick reaction times to get a good start.

EDIT: I've got an 💡 . You could have a time range like "between 7- and 7.5 mins" which probably would be best of both worlds.

Whoever told you that time is used in any pro rooms, well, he's probably new. I have yet to meet a pro who would say that he prefers time. And I race online every day.

If someone asks you to pinks on time, just get out of his room as he's only wanting to scam you.

Every fast guy I know on this game starts on ghost.

We won't get a proper tree guys, I'd like it too, but the reality is that there won't be a tree in GT5. Personally I'd even like a countdown style start, it'd be the most accurate way to do it. Like a multiplayer speed test pack lol. I know that there would be multiple launch tricks with that like retro launching or timed launch but even those come with a risk of not doing it right, which would result in losing a race. Just an idea, go ahead and hate on it or support it. It most likely won't happen in GT5 so it doesn't really matter anyway.

I quite enjoy GT5 drag racing, but it's just such a pain to play. Ghosting has problems, such as it ghosts faster for on one guy's screen, and on the other guy's screen it ghosts after several seconds.

With timed runs, people still jump.

I really, really hope PD will add a full drag racing mode to Spec III if/when it comes out.

When I first started I thought time was the proper way because that's what was happening in the rooms I was in....racing down the back stretch of Sarthe 5 or more wide. I realized that it wasn't the best way after I tried the ghosting method. It's not perfect due to people's different connections and ping rates but it still helps keep the launches closer so people are not launching .4 or .5 seconds ahead of the other guy. Most of us know when "flag lag" occurs, it's something we'll all just have to accept and live with for many more years probably, a good ghoster can usually tell if lag or jumping occurs too, it's like having a third party ref.

Yeah, a multiplayer speed test with th option to line up evenly would be a killer idea.....but...

I tried and tried with the guy but I just wasn't getting through to him. Sad thing is he wasnt complaining the first few races but when he realized he couldn't win off ghost. Rage mode engaged and he happened to have a mic all the sudden :dopey:

It was typical BS. Wouldn't go if there was a ghost but he'd go by time and leave .2 early of the said time. I guess we all have our bad days lol. I was willing to help this guy improve his tree at one point of the night but he'd rather name call for 3 hours 👍

That's a shame..
You can bring a horse to water, but you can not make him drink it*

I never run off time anymore. Not by choice, I normally do not mind leaving on a time if there is no ghost available.
I am actually missing the clock..
I'm not sure how I made it disappear, but one day I noticed that the top right of my screen is clear.
Any one else missing their "refresh the room it's been up an hour" timer? Lol

Hmm I'd assume its either your settings in the lobby or options at the main menu. But I'm not sure never messed around with them.

I figured that was what happened lol. Typical behaviour for someone new. Just don't take people like that seriously.

And hos, when in a lobby on track, press start and select "quick options (or something like that)" between "chat" and "exit", and there you have multiple options of what you want to be on your screen, just tick the timer... I think it should be there tho lol.
